It's a pawn shop. What do you think you're supposed to sell to them?

Seeing as you don't know whether or not it was stolen then it's fair enough that you pawned it off... why else would he give you a free Ipod, though?

There's a reason they photograph you and take your finger prints when you sell stuff to a pawn shop, genius. They're also the first place the police look for stolen stuff.

I've never had that happen in all my years of selling to pawn shops.

Serious answer :

If they can prove you knew it was stolen you will be charged with "Possession of Stolen Goods". Usually only a few community service hours or a small fine if it's a first offence.

That is only if you can be proven guilty though- the problem here is if your friend has stolen several things from one place and this is traced to being one of them you will have to rat him out... sucks huh?

i don't think he got caught. wasn't entirely his fault, so he never really brought up the subject again.

don't worry, nothing will happen, chances are pretty slim that whoever the iPod was stolen form didn't bother keeping the serial number and all that, and those things are so common that it would be pretty much impossible to track that individual one down anyway.

Besides that, an Ipod theft is only a misdemeanor.

You can't get in trouble for that... unless you're black.

You must live in straight up white bread land cus i aint never heard of pawn shops keeping records of stolen goods. Besides no-one would sell to a pawn shop that kept files of people to snitch on.

This is a good plan. Now when the guitar gods/policemen that roam UG stumbled upon this thread, they will see that you didn't know it was stolen, and even more so, the guy you got it from didn't know it was stolen! Genius! Rehearse this story. It will do well at the trial.
