Ok I took some of the bands off that were "indie/pop punk/hardcore/gayxcore etc" please keep in mind that I haven't heard of all these bands so I don't want to hear any "you stupid ****ing moron (insert band on list) isn't anywhere near emo!" Alright? Thanks. If you don't think a band is emo, mention it politely or you will be warned. Just everyone knows, this list includes all the subgenres, such as emocore, screamo, etc. Some are boarderline. And thanks to ALL THE EMO KIDS (especially mike, andrew, and eric) for making the list.

I put a star * by the bands I've heard and recommend.

Words of wisdom;

"But no, that band's not mentioned on fourfa.com, can't have that, take them off, take them oooff"

OK! Post deleted, cause 1. half of them were spam 2. i added most the bands.

SO! Only post if you want to give a suggestion to add to the list! And if you're going to say "INSERT BAND NAME" isnt emo, you might be right but emo isnt held down. There are types of eo just like every other genre...Emocore, emotronica (eric lol), etc Most of the bands are close to emo if not exactly!

The only other place they'd fit would be hardcore, and it'd be a shame to put them there :(.

I've heard 56 of these bands, good stuff, some that could be added though are

+ Ataris
+ The Contingency Plan
+ Hot Rod Circuit
+ Midtown
+ The Movielife
+ Off By One
+ Somehow Hollow
+ Something Corporate
+ The Reunion Show

Some people might argue that a few of these are pop-punk, but I would argue for all of them (except maybe 'off by one'), that they're not, and I think even Yellowcard should be on here too, they're kind of in the middle, but I think they fit here more than in pop-punk, so just consider it

- Glassjaw and any other band on here like them (they're way too hardcore for this list)

+ Open Hand

Yes, all of those are pop-punk(that I have heard of). They may have better lyrics, but they are still pop-punk.

At the Drive-In was already discussed to be very unappropriatly placed in emo. Thats putting them in the same genre of Sparta and there is no similarity. Their sound isn't emo and their lyrics arent emo. They're insanely punk influenced and would be pretty well placed there.

They're in a league of their own which is why they have so much appeal.

funny how i've mentioned them in every single almighty list of emo bands thread and they've never been added despite how much i love andy.

Do you know where emo comes from? Sparta much more resembles the punk/hardcore extensions, major use of octave chords, screamed but not fully throaty music that emo came from. Death Cab for Cutie's more pop than emo.

And Tom, I agree, but say that if this list is going to include emo bands that aren't together anymore, there should be a lot more added to the list like Julia and Portraits of Past. So let's not keep the list from becoming 4 pages long...

Snow Patrol should definately NOT be in that list, I agree.

Snow Patrol are like Feeder or Keane, who were recommended for the list a while back but (thank god) didn't go up. They're kind of pop/rock/indie music. Good bands but by no stretch of the imagination are they emo.

Umm...do you know what the stars mean? They mean that Fatkidsonmopeds has heard the band, likes them, and recommends them. It has nothing to do with the list itself, it's just his recommendation...

Eliott, a super popular 90s emo band, easy mistake tho

and legion of doom mix 2 emo songs and put tem together, (i.e. they mixed ur so last summer and buried a lie to make "i know what u buried last summer")

Best Emo:
Radiohead
Sparklehorse
Grandaddy
Talkingheads (Possible not Emo but all Emo bands take something from them)

let me put this lightly...
Radiohead are not emo.
...they are alternative (and were for a time indie, but obviously no longer) - notice the 3+ threads about them in the 'Alt/Indie' forum ;)

Additionally, Sparklehorse and Grandaddy are most definitely not emo. Both are true Indie bands (*ahem* ...well, Sparklehorse is more of an artist; Mark Linkous). Both are wonderful, too.

Cheers.

yeah, indie and emo get confused sometimes.

and is it just me, or does it seem like most indie kids hate emo? or hate least hate being called emo.

well, my music of choice is indie;
considering almost none of the lyrics to the music i listen to are emotionally based, and none of the music is of a depressing nature, i'd have to say that it's not emo at all - just simply indie (or, sometimes, alternative)

genres exist as a communication tool, and i'm simply trying to avoid miscommunicaiton ;)

I don't know if you want suggestions or what and if anyone's mentioned them but i like "The Park Bench Rant" at the minute.

the truth is really that good emo is either hardcore or indie that happens to have emotional lyrics. i mean, bands like capn jazz, rites of spring, the hated, whatever, all of them were either indie or hardcore bands first and foremost, they just happened to have this emotional element.

the only emo that tends not to fit into other categories tends to be the crap stuff eg taking back sunday etc...

ok I took some of the bands off that were "indie/pop punk" please keep in mind that I haven't heard of all these bands so I don't want to hear any "you stupid ****ing moron (insert band on list) isn't anywhere near emo!" alright? thanks. if you don't think a band is emo mention politely, anyone who does this will be warned. And thanks to mike (less than that) for making the list.

I put a star * by the bands I've heard and recommend.

alright, CONTRIBUTE to The Emo List [/B]
i think fixed your list...though glassjaw and perdro the lion should be added...and this was polite!...yep...those are the only emotional hardcore bands i see there...
