I don't see a point in you.
As stated last time, after long debates we left AFI and The Offspring off the list as AFI were never pop punk, and used to be punk, whereas Offspring for the majority of their albums have been punk.
So keep them off ;)

Its so people know what is "pop punk" and what is not, so butt out. :p:

So, say someone liked a few pop-punk bands. They didn't know of any others, so they look at the list, pick a band, see what they sound like, and probably like them. That's the point.
we should put them in clasification by what other bands they sound similar to. That would probally make the list alot more relevant to people.

Yeah, leave the Ramones on.
How come the emo list one has been locked? Just as I remember a couple more it closes.
EDIT: [Spunge] are ska from what I remember.
Alkaline Trio should really be on here rather than the emo list.
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists are more Alternative than pop punk.
Add on Orange Island and Agent Orange.

Andrew only recommends bands he's personally heard and likes. If he were to recommend every band someone on this site liked, the whole star thing would lose its value. And, at the risk of sounding like a kiss-ass, I must say that Andrew has a very respectable taste in music.

Not the Clash. Not the Sex Pistols. They weren't in the pop-punk style. With the Pistols, the only separation was that it was more TRYING to be poli-punkers or just straight punk than it was anything else. Besides, Johnny Rotten is no pop-punk vocalist.
Being a SoCal DYI poli-punk band doesn't get you on this list...
The Clash were more of an experimental punk band if you ever heard the stuff on London Calling and Joe's solo work.
I say keep the Ramones because they INVENTED the genre.

I saw her on the top of the list with no * recomended.

mainly because of her live performances.

No they werent. Neither of them were.
MrLucky77713
10-19-2004, 05:15 PM
Neither were first, and the Ramones flat out invented pop-punk.
Avril and Busted = pop-punk or pop, depending on what you think. I never dug their stuff anyway, so I care little about it.
Green Day are also pop-punk. They brought the genre to the mainstream and gave pop-punk its name.

Pinholes: Pop isn't short for popular. Pop = pop music. so it's POP themes on PUNK music. Powerchords, distortion, palm muting, simplicity + poppy, relatively "shallow" themes like girls and getting drunk and hating school and being with friends = pop-punk.
Inky: So because BFS is a pop-punk band they suck? Could've fooled me. Truth is, I'm not a fan, but pop-punk does not mean suck, or else we would call it suck-punk.
Total:Wrong. Ramone started pop-punk. They belong as a pop-punk band like the Queers. And the white stripes are modern rock or something aren't they? DC is just indie/emo.

No, it's not. The Clash are popular, they aren't pop-punk. The casualties are rather popular, they aren't pop-punk.
There's criteria beyond just being popular. Pop IS catchy, but not because it is popular.

I know I'm late in saying this, but I've just been cleaning this thread a little bit, but if that were the correct way to write Sloppy Meateaters, then 'Meateaters' would need to become two words. You can't have a capital letter in the middle of a word like that. Anyway, for short, they are Sloppy Meateaters, without the capital 'e'. You can ask Josh if you like, I'm sure he'd agree with me, well, at least I hope he would, he seems literate.

MrLucky77713
11-28-2004, 02:14 PM
^No. The rise of pop-punk was in the 90s, the Ramones invented the genre, it simply wasn't named until Green Day and the rest came along. Influence doesn't make you a certain genre, it just makes the Ramones rule.
Ramones invented it, if ANYONE should stay, they should.

dude did you even listen to what the dude said u asshole? He didnt say they invented pop-punk hes saying they invented punk(they actually didnt really, they are the first punk band though) and they they influenced all the punk bands you know of today, every band in every subgenre of punk you know of, yep and i dont think they are really pop punk they sound more like the kind of music that the beatles(one of their influences) and other bands like that played and also we cant forget the other bands that came before The Ramones like the New york dolls that were like one of the bands that helped to invent punk so yaa......

classic rock. lol no way. just early pop-punk. they influenced like our modern misfits, green day,cub,...any of those bands that play fast 2 minute pop songs with heavy distortion. (There's more to it than that, but that's a vague description of the pop-punk movement they started.)

Recommend bands for New-New-Wave/New-Power-Pop:
Alabama Jihad (more No-Wave)
The Pink Spiders
The Epoxies
The Expoliding Hearts
Y'all should take off the Snake the Cross the Crown and replace it with their old band: Curbside Service... they were more pop-punk. They were even a ska band at one point.

definatly take the ramones off. there were the fathers of punk rock, not pop-punk. generally poppunk has a negative connotation that goes along with it, the ramones don't deserve that. don;t get me wrong, i like "pop-punk", but the ramones don;t fit into that catagory.

Oh my God, there are at least four fucking posts on every single page of this thread saying how The Ramones aren't pop-punk. ACCEPT IT. THE RAMONES ARE POP-PUNK, AND THEY'RE NOT GETTING TAKEN OFF THE LIST.
Rufio is pop-punk as well to the person who said they're not. Yes, a lot of their songs have sweet guitar lines, but they're still pop-punk. They may not be as pop-punk as some of the bands on this list, but they're still mainly pop-punk.
