Ok UG, here's whats up.

The Orchestra director at my school has asked me to join one of her classes as a guitar player. She said that I can do whatever I want in this class(musically speaking). So pretty much gave me the impression that if I just play lead/solo stuff all day, she will have the orchestra back me up. Now, I am totally blown away by this, and I need some ideas on what to do. I have until this coming August to do so. The only other thing I need to do besides this is learn my jazz chords. But for songs, I'm looking particulary in the Metal genre, seeing I'm a metalhead myself. I haven't given this alot of deep thing since I've been busy since school is almost out, but I have come up with some ideas.

Here are some songs I want to try, all as instrumentals:
"Aerials" by SOAD
"The Illusionist" by Scar Symmetry
"Down From The Sky" by Trivium(I have a feeling this one will be epic)
"Oh Holy Night" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
"No Leaf Clover" by Metallica
"Viking Kong" by Racer X
"Far Beyond The Sun" Yngwie Malmsteen
"Blue" Yngwie Malmsteen

Not a whole lot, but this is what is off the top of my head. I'm looking for any type of music that will allow to do lead stuff, but can also fit in an orchestra(or rhythm section that is very full). Don't worry about the difficulty of a song or the tuning, I play a 7 string and can handle anything. The drummer in this class is an old bandmate of mine, and can really bang away(he can't do double bass very fast, unfortunately).

So please recommend me songs(not bands) that will fit in good with this class. Like already stated, I have all summer to research stuff for this.

(far beyond the sun starts like 3 minutes in)

or this song

or if you want something easier do Viking Kong by Racer X
that would be so epic with an orchestra
here's a link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wocREqzn1bQ

or if you dont want to do shred.
then try the instrumentals for this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iXwkUUmdZ4

OR DO THUNDER HORSE BY DETHKLOK
OOOOMGGG
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BtY8fGvDqU

or something from Rust in Peace.
Lucretia and Hangar 18 would be cool with instrumentals.

^dude, Cooley is way beyond my ability to play, but I'm seriously considering the Malmsteen stuff, here one of my fav's, and Far Beyond the Sun doesn't sound too hard.

EDIT: The Racer X one is another one im considering.

If you want epic, try (an obvious one) Jason Becker - Altitudes

Fracture by King Crimson. (http://tinysong.com/4jwC)
Rocks hard and makes great use of dynamics, which fits a large orchestra; i can easily imagine how during some parts you'd have only 1 or 2 instruments and during other parts, the whole orchestra would play simultaneously. It gets hard as fack about 3 minutes in, but that's not important for someone who can handle anything and it's easier than Rusty Cooley :p:
