They haven't sold out simply because you don't like their new sound.

Actually, Green Day sold out when they did Dookie.

Kings of Leon have been pretty blatant about it, in my opinion.

GNR.

Green Day did not sell out.

Just because you guys didn't like American Idiot didn't mean Green Day sold out. If they really wanted to sell out and get thousands of fans back, they'd play more like the songs on the Dookie album.

Metallica never sold out until Death Magnetic. Saint Anger definitely was NOT what most of their audience, but they were playing what they WANTED to.

That's not selling out.

However, with DM, they were just playing what their fans wanted them to play, since St Anger bombed.

That's selling out.

I'm boycotting the term "sell-out"
This guy is right, just because they're changing how they play doesn't mean they're just in it for the money.

Weezer. Has anyone heard their last two albums? Just boring little pop-rock songs with quirky lyrics. Not to mention, they're both awful.

The Beatles didn't sell out, they started out as poppy tween boyband, then became these incredible prog-pop geniuses once they stopped playing live.

I know, I was trying to state a claim of selling out to most people being just a matter of a band changing their sound and not liking it. I love the Beatles.

Green Day didn't sell out either.

All of those were stupid but Kiss was the dumbest, yes they were terrible but they didn't "sell-out" just because the liked dance and disco music tons of bands did that. All these bands did at least one dance song and/or songs that were heavy with synthesizers.
Led Zeppelin - Trampled Under Foot
Rolling Stones - A lot of stuff was dance, for example Miss You the bluesiest dance song ever
Eric Clapton - A lot of stuff was synth heavy
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Crossfire was arguably a dance song. Also let's not forget Let's Dance you know the one he did with David Bowie
David Bowie - The musical chameleon, he did whatever was popular but not accused of selling out because he was David Bowie and that's what he did.
ZZ Top - Listen to Eliminator
The list goes on and on, if SRV hadn't come along a lot of those people wouldn't have been able to get out of the synths because blues wasn't popular. Synthesizers were popular and let's face it, making music no one wants to listen to doesn't put bread on the table.
