Basically the title. What's one band you think that every punk can appreciate or respect?

I think maybe the Stooges?

Thats what werty said but I disagree. SLF has always been a much more genuine band IMO. The Clash were a bunch of rich posers singing about left-wing politics. SLF, living in Northern Ireland during that time period, seemed a little more justified in their lyricism.

Kropotkin, Marx, Bakhunin, Ché Guevara, Rudi Duttschke.......they all had rich parents

SLFīs idols before they listened to The Clashs s/t have been Lynyrd Skynyrd, a bunch of right wing rednecks.

But that doesn't make them that special. You said "they they took punk rock and made something NEW out of it" as if all the other punk rock was all the same.

Besides, there are lots of bands that are more influential than the Misfits. And I've never heard a good horror punk other than the Misfits. And in case you didn't know, the Misfits weren't the first punk band with horror themes in their songs. Check out "You Should Never Have Opened That Door," "Pinhead" and "Chainsaw" by the Ramones. They weren't even the first to have a "scary" look. The Damned kind of did that. The Misfits were just the first (that I know of) to really make a big deal of all that stuff.

God, like that proves anything. Were you there when the picture was taken? Did you ask who's needles they were? And Ian admitted it?
I don't think Ian would sing about not doing drugs if he shot up heroin. I'm pretty sure he smokes now, but I'd bet a lot of money that he didn't back then.

And even if he did do heroin before, which I really doubt, he definately wasn't doing it during Minor Threat.

See? Greg Ginn was drugged out of his mind throughout the 80's and 90's. Seems plausible enough

All I'm sayin' is:
-I highly doubt that Ian Mackaye ever did heroin. You're the only person I've ever heard say that, and your sources are something some random skinhead told you, a blurry picture, and a claim that everybody else who's ever listened to Minor Threat is mishearing a word.

From Our Band Could be Your Life

Page 120: "While he was away, some of his friends began smoking pot and drinking. "I missed that little transition," says Mackaye. "And if I had been there, I don't know-- I don't think I would have gone with them, but I've always wondered. But what it did afford me was an opportunity to come home to see the results of this transition."

"I thought, 'This is ****in' gross man,' " he says. " 'These kids are twelve, thirteen years old and this is it? This is what they're going to do for the rest of their lives?' Because that's what it felt like. This is the eternal quest to get ****ed up. That's entertainment? **** that. I was not interested."

Page 135-136 (referring to Ian): His thing was 'I don't need drugs, I'm not going to take them,' " says Nelson. "A very unusual strength of will. A very tiny percentage of the population has anything like that kind of willpower and determination and self-control and resistance to peer pressure."

Enough for you?

Oh, ok. Then there was never a need to doubt you. :D I hate what Jerry's doing with the 'Misfits'. Without Doyle or Graves/Danzig they're Jerry Only refusing to admit his band is done with. It's sort of upsetting haha.

Hey man, Jerry was an original member. You should be grateful that he's trying to continue the band.

And I have to say on Jerry's behalf, we have to remember, he hasnt made an original album with the new lineup. He did Project 1950, but thats a cover album. And if Jerry messes up a little live, then we'll just have to forgive him, because he's ****ing ancient.
