But you'll probably like Propaghandi most because they're closer to the sound of Anti-Flag and other bands you mentioned...

Feeding of the 5000 (as Rockthe40oz said)

For Propaghandi i recommend Less Talk, More Rock and How To Clean Anything in any order. After these two albums they get more metalish which is still great but takes some getting used to after hearing their earlier stuff.

Propagandhi is where it's at. Less Talk More Rock is what you want if you want their more NoFX sound (don't bother listening to HTCE), but their best album is Today's Empire Tomorrow's Ashes. Potemkin City LImits and Supporting Caste are quite good too though.

I thought he had clariffied that by 'modern' he simply meant punk bands that were still recording. I mean, BEL is just two members of Aus-Rotten along with a few other guys, but they're still recording/performing, at least occasionally around Pittsburgh.

And BEL definitely has a distinctive sound, it sounds like it's trying to be a new type of hardcore, it kind of has some grind elements in it. I mean, listen to The System Works For Them and then The Global Cannibal, there's definitely a distinction between the two bands.

Either way, the singer's lyrics are still my favorite around. I feel like he's matured some with BEL...the title track on Global Cannibal along with Advancing the Cause are two of my favorite songs at the moment.

^I think they sound like a more Crust, better produced way of Aus Rotten

Greenfinger182
08-02-2009, 06:36 PM
I thought the recording quality of Aus-Rotten made them sound crustier than BEL, quite honestly.

Both have a place in my heart. Whenever I get to see Behind Enemy Lines live, you really can't tell a huge difference, because the production value is at the same quality as Aus-Rotten had in-studio. I always prefered the somewhat 'live' sound that A-R had on their CDs, but once Know Your Enemy and the Global Cannibal came out, it became a much harder decision. They sound awesome, even if they are quite cleaned up.

A better question would be what punk bands aren't political. The entire scene was founded on a dislike for the social norm and a hatred for what was going on in the government at that time.

Probably a lot of emocore/post-hardcore bands aren't really political, and skate punk isn't always. Other than that, most of it is.

I took one of those political tests, where it asks you about 6 pages of questions and then tells you what you 'are.'

I came out as Libertarian Socialist, and I was just like wtf. I looked it up on Wikipedia and they claimed it was just a big euphemism for anarchist. I was like...right on.

They showed a 'compass' sort of system (leftist, rightist, and then north and south representing authoritarian and libertarian), and showed what political leaders would be where. Supposedly my views are MOST in line with Gandhi. My spot on the compass was almost right on top of his.

Yeah, California has the most ridiculous 3-strikes law of any state. Most of those sorts of laws only apply to felonies, and many only apply to violent felonies. There, your third strike could be stealing 3 golf clubs or $150 worth of video tapes (both true stories).

Your best bet is, if you're in California and you have two strikes.... get the f*ck out and never come back.

I like NOFX but it's true, as a political band they're mediocre at best, funny how he waits untill George Bush, probably the easiest target in politics, is elected to start making political songs. They should have just stayed how they were in the 80s/90s, a bunch of stupid frat boys who sing about lesbians and throw in an occasional half baked political song.
