I was lucky enough to see him last year when he earned a lifetime achievement award from the rock and roll hall of fame. His mind was still sharp as a tack and he had a hilarious sense of humor, telling a woman that if he was 15 years younger he would rock her world. He was a living legend and his contributions to music will not be forgotten. RIP Les Paul you will be missed.

Even though I wasn't very familiar with his music, this has made me sad. I appreciate all the things he has done for music & the guitar.

I was at the show with Jimmy94. This man invented most of the sounds heard in modern music. He was truly a legend. Glad I got to see him before he died. RIP Les.

Les Paul was probably the first real master of the electric guitar in mainstream pop music. He was one of the pioneers of the solidbody electric, and he invented multi-track recording. Try for a moment to imagine the last 50 years of music without multi-track recording.

Many people are familiar with his work with Mary Ford and his later forays into jazz and country (most notably his album with Chet Atkins), but what a lot of people don't know is that he was discovered by and was a regular collaborator with Bing Crosby. Listen to Crosby's hit "Long Long Time". The lead guitar is Les Paul.

We're talking about the death of, not only a musical innovator, but a fantastic Blues and Jazz guitarist and a fine man. If you don't see how that's relevant to the Blue & Jazz sub--category on a guitar forum then it's you that's in the wrong place.

Not to mention the person who's genius gave us one of the things this site is all about - the electric guitar.
