Check this guy, he lives and performs in my city heaps, pretty well known blues player in New Zealand, gotta be my favourite local guitarist.. not a bad singer too ;)

He plays in a trio too, they play some real traditional blues and are ****ing amazing live. He plays fortnightly at a bar/cafe near me and it has to be my favourite gig in town, blows me away every time ;P

Great player and he sure seems to feel it!
I wish there was someone like him in my town

Nice one. Has some good acoustic stuff.

This is the top jazz and blues artist in my town. He's amazing. I'm going to see him live as soon as I can. Found out about him only some days ago:

Not strictly local. But he lives in London. Although North West, rather than South West :poke:
Lives near lotsa my mates though, so that balances it out, riiiight? :p:
I'm always ****ing promoting this guy, but he deserves it. Opened for the likes of The White Stripes, The Soledad Brothers, The Von Bondies, dubbed "Mister" by John Lee Hooker himself. The man is a ****ing great.

Mr David Viner
His latest record has more folky singer-songwriter inflections, but earlier stuff tended towards straight blues, more or less.

check him out

the faculty at my school are among the top jazz musicians in town. the piano instructor was actually voted second AND third best jazz pianist in the area. :haha

the pianist, sax player and drummer all teach at my uni; the guitarist was a student. bass player's the only odd one out. awesome guy though and a great bass player!

these guys are great as well. really out there:

goldsby only plays with them every once in a while as he no longer lives in louisville. i think he's in germany now?

Richard Johnston:

He's a Memphis guy that plays on Beale Street on friday and saturday nights, weather permitting. Not in Beale Street bars. On the street.
