Just saw these guys at a show with The Fall of Troy, they remind me a bit of mewithoutYou, maybe of At the Drive-In. And of Saetia.

Their singer is so emotional live. Great dude too.

I downloaded their earlier stuff, it's really weird indie type stuff. Spoken word vocals and clean guitar parts, you know. I'm actually getting into it, haha.

this band's playing 15 minutes away with Rise and Fall, Bitter End, and Mammoth Grinder for 6 bucks. hell yes.

I've actually known about these guys for some time and I do cite them as an inspiration. Definatley the whole emotional spoken word thing with an instrumental background.

Ive listened to these guys for a while and when I heard they were coming to Tulsa I jumped at the chance to go see them live. Best show I have ever seen. The singer was phenomenal and the whole group was together, didn't notice a single slip up. Overall it was very energetic and a great live performance. Not to mention some of the nicest people you will meet.

they are pretty awesome. i saw them in a small bar outside of toronto with native and about 20 people in the room and they ripped it hard. i love the vocals, they remind me so much of saetia/hot cross.

i think the hate is probably because a lot of people misunderstand their lyrics and pass them off as whiny teenage love / hate / relationship songs.

I think I saw you in my sleep, darling
I think I saw you in my sleep, you were stitching up the seams
Of every broken promise that your body couldn't keep
I think I saw you in my sleep

About relationships? Yes. Whiny? Hell no.

And most of their songs aren't about this sort of thing, to be honest.

DaddyTwoFoot

I saw them quite a long time ago and was basically an instant fan. I bought their album Vancouver straight from the guitarist. I'm from Michigan (as are they) and saw them in a small venue in a small town.

The singer was one of the most arresting and electrifying performers I have ever seen in my life. Seriously, probably top 5 of any musician. He walked through the audience as he sang. I think he noticed that I was getting into them more than anyone else, because he came over to me, stuck his microphone in my pocket and finished a song by getting on his knees and singing into my hip.

+1000.. what I was saying is that lots of people misunderstand them. They listen to one song, hear the vocals and go away. maybe this is just because i notice how many shithouse ignorant people there are where i live

They just released Hear, Hear III - well, not just, but I doubt many of you have checked it out yet. It's got a much more indie feel to it.

And Vancouver is a very different style. Not as good as SATBOTRBVAA (damn that's long) but still very good. Much more post-hardcore esque.

Favorite pieces of La Dispute lyrics?

For me it's:

“Rise!” Said the King to the River, “Never let up! No, bring us a flood and bring it hard!”
“Freeze!” Said the Wind to the Water, “Never give in! No, build us a bridge! And build it strong and angry. Let it stills the King’s decree. Oh, you must contemplate the current, Boy, and command that coward cease.

And

"Now at the end of everyday I lie awake at night and wait
To feel the wires of my brain get cut and quietly rearranged"

punkforlife93
02-26-2010, 05:24 PM
But I still see him dead in the parking lot
At the gas station just down the street
And I still hear my friend say
You know, you wouldn't believe the things I saw when I was stationed overseas
But he somehow keeps smiling in spite of all of that
While I keep finding ways to push the good out for the bad
Oh, how selfish of myself
To always say that it was more than I could take
Like it was pain I couldn't shake
Like it could break me with its fingers
Throw my body in the lake and I would slowly sink away
But the truth is it was sorrow that I made and wouldn't face
See, I keep falling for the future after tripping on the past
And I am always tearing sutures out to make the anguish last
Like it defines me or reminds me
I've found comfort in my suffering
And uncertainty in happiness and death
Because what's next is such a mystery to me
And I am terrified of all the things I feel but cannot see
Friends and family
Put your hand into my hand and lay your head into my chest
You are all that I have left here
We are all that we have left

From The Last Lost Continent. Bitchin.

WOW i cant believe there's a thread for these guys!! I discovered them earlier this year, I don't even remember how. I first head such small hands and wasn't sure if I loved it or hated it. It took a while but I definitely grew to love them. Said the king to the River and Last blues for bloody knuckles and sad prayers for guilty bodies are my favourites. The vocals... are just so intense and he always has so much emotion when he sings. In such small hands it sounds like he's almsot about to break into tears, it's just amazing.

So stoked to see them in Worchester, MA in a few months. I still find it weird that Trash Talk is above La Dispute on set...

Oh, and "Nine" is my new favorite Here, Hear track.

EDIT:

Yeah, I know, all the Here, Hear tracks are by other people up until Here, Hear III. Still, the way he treats each piece of writing is amazing.

And the full length and Touche Amore split both have me stoked.

From Vass's formspring:

"the songs on the upcoming touche amore split i wrote with a feeling of not wanting to continue. winter in michigan will do that to me pretty easy. discontent with where you are in your life, in the world, in someone else's mind, or what have you. this turns eventually into a life is what you make it sort of theme, which i have mixed feelings on."

Sounds dark.

Saw them last night. Was amazing. Small venues rock. They were playing in a place barely bigger than my bedroom with 50+ packed in. Only thing that sucked was their set list was kind of short :(
what songs did they play?

Such Small Hands. Said the King to the River, Damaged Goods, 2 new songs off the Touche Amore split, New Storms for Older Lovers, and I think one more but I can't remember which.

Edit: It was Sad Prayers For Guilty Bodies.

I guess 7 songs isn't too short. Still wanted to see way more.

Haha, I'm trying! I"m kind of a perfectionist though so it's taking some time. I've got about 2 minutes of the song in Guitar Pro and 95% of the riffs in the song figured out.

Theres one riff I'm not sure if I'm gona be able to figure out :( The one at that starts at about 6:40. That time may be off, I'm at school and looking at the song on youtube, and the guy had to split the song into 2 parts. Pretty much every other riff I've figured out except for maybe a few of the Rythym riffs which shouldn't be hard.

I'll probably need some help with the bass, as I don't have one and know exactly squat about bass.

I think Andria takes the cake when it comes to amazing flow/rhyming/lyrical content

And I remember how you smiled through the smoke
in a crowded little coffeehouse and laughed at all my jokes.
And I remember the way that you dressed and,
how we wasted all the best of us in alcohol and sweat
And I remember when I knew that you'd be leaving, how I barely kept up breathing
and I bet if I had to do it all again, I'd feel the same pain,
And I remember panicked circles in the terminal in tears.
How I wept to god in fits. I've hated airports ever since.

lol alright, I emailed Chad a while ago so I'll just post the email

Hi Tom, I appreciate your compliments on the album. I hope this information finds you well.

Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Studio, Les Paul Standard. I've had the Studio for years and I love it, I recently picked up a Standard and I like that too, but I realized I don't like owning expensive things; I think I worry about it too much.

Amp, Cabs: Mesa solo 50 head, Mesa 4x12, Avatar 4x12. The Mesa head was the first real amp I bought and is still the one I currently use. It's purple, I've grown to love it. The Avatar was my first cab and it was always OK sounding, kind of pale in comparison with the Mesa, but a while back I rewired it and rear-mounted the speakers and now I actually like it better some days.

Pedals: Sonic Research ST-200, ISP Decimator, Line 6 DL4. The ST-200 is in my opinion one of the best tuning pedals on the market. It's solid, USA made, and is much more accurate than anything out there I've seen. Just a small company but I can see them being popularized. The ISP is another great pedal, also a small company, at least when I bought mine, now I think they sell them at GC and everything. The DL4 I never cease having problems with. I've been through at least 4 of them in past few years, and the one I have right now is also broken. But for
some reason I keep buying them?

Other things: cables, picks, strings. I end up experimenting with a lot of different kinds. Right now I'm settled on Mogami cables, Dunlop Yellow picks, and D'addario EXL115 strings, but that could change tomorrow.

Kevin plays an SG (guitar) through a 5150II head through Marshall cabs. His pedal set up is about the same as mine: tuner, noise suppressor, delay. But he uses a Boss tuner and delay (DD7 I think).

So there you have it. What do you use? I always love to talk about gear. Right now I'm getting into building guitar pedals and speaker cabs and things so that's been an adventure, things to occupy my time... Anyway, I've rambled. -Chad

have you ever seen a live band that emulated guitar using synths? Most of the time it's a keyboard with cool sounds

Well I don't mean to say I dislike guitar-centric music ( I mean I do post on a site called ultimate-guitar) but I'm just saying I'd like to hear some rock music that isn't so focused on it.

I'm gonna go listen to some Death From Above

So I got to use La dispute in school today. I'm using my favorite song (fall down, never get back up again) in an english project. We had to pick a song to describe a poem. Wanna know what poem it is? listen to Three

The first thing I thought of when I heard that song was "Reminds me of the Annabel Lee poem."

Turns out it was based on that.

Bury Your Flame
Said The King To The River
New Storms For Old Lovers
New song
New song
Something from a 7" I don't know
The Castle Builders (EPIC singalong at the end)
Damaged Goods

I think that was it, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something. No Such Small Hands or Fall Down.

Damaged Goods was so good, but I think New Storms for Old Lovers was the best song of the set for me. If nothing else, for the fact that I was on some dudes back and the singer screamed "I guess love's a funny thing, the way it fades away without a warning" in my face.
