dunno if there was already a thread like this, but...
what are your all time favorite breakdowns?
and what do you think constitutes a great breakdown?
what do you think is the future for breakdowns, ie will they stick around, evolve in any way etc?
should they stick around or do they need to go or change in any way?
my favorites would have to be from:
"Psychosocial" - Slipknot
"Danger In The Manger" - Iwrestledabearonce
"Domination" - Pantera
"Wage Slaves" - All Shall Perish
i prefer breakdowns that heavily rely on unique syncopation or tremolo. i also like the slooooow breakdowns of Whitechapel. it would be cool if a doomcore movement came about. i think breakdowns are definitely sticking around for a while, but the idea of breakdowns definitely needs some growth and experimentation because most songs coming out with them these days are getting stale.
lets discuss

I think it mainly requires syncopated & synchronised drums & guitars, while it still has a certain melody behind it. Examples:
