Welcome to the Tunings Thread.
This was originally Dyer's Eve's BRILLIANT idea (in the metal forum), that became amazingly hard to to manage. I took on the task.
So, I present...
The Metal Hardcore Forum Tunings Thread
I left most of them blank until I fill them in. Any genres you think are wrong/not filled in, tell me :D

MustangMan311

Molotov Solution plays in Drop G or Drop G#. Ask saxaxe. Also, is that the legendary Ion Dissonance tuning, or is that a different one? I can't recall.

Oh, and Evisceration plays in drop B. :p:

I was not aware that ATB even used G?

Just checked, ATB use A# standard on FAFS and F standard on Rareform.

edit: The ID tuning is one that someone I saw using on another forum. They claimed to have watched the guitarist's tuner pedal while he was tuning and that's what he found so... :p:
All the stuff I've seen with the band, they always say "Well, the low string is a G# but that's all we'll say :haha"

Haha, sorry man. I never bothered with that because I leave it open for additions. I just manage it, I rarely actually add my own info.

Haha, alright. I know that BZM from the BTBAM forums claims to have figured it out a while back, so I'll try and find that sometime. He's a HUGE Solace fan and a great musician, so I would be pretty certain that his is correct. If it's different, I'll post it.

Hatebreed plays in C standard.
I don't think JFAC plays in drop A. They played in drop C for Doom, and A# for Genesis, and A# for Ruination. Though they played in C standard for one song from the new album when I saw them live (I think To Detonate And Exterminate).
I don't recall any Unearth songs being in drop A.
Molotov Solution play in drop G, not G#.
And I'm pretty sure After The Burial played in A# standard for Forging.
Parkway Drive also play in drop A# for Dead Man's Chest.

EDIT:Here's a list of Hardcore/Metalcore/Deathcore band's tunings that I know.

Drop B:
Animosity (I think, I'm not too sure) [Deathcore]
Betrayal [Metalcore/ Deathcore]
Bleeding Through [Metalcore] (I have no idea about the new album)
Dead To Fall [Metalcore]
Devildriver* [Metalcore]
iwrestledabearonce [Experimental Deathcore]
Mychildren Mybride [Metalcore]
Suffokate [Deathcore]
Underneath The Gun [Deathcore]

Drop C:
Arsonists Get All The Girls [Deathcore]
Burning The Masses [Deathcore]
Comeback Kid [Hardcore]
Conducting From The Grave [Deathcore] (Not too sure, it sounds like drop C, yet there's tabs for drop C#]
Converge [Metalcore] (I could be wrong, they might play in some weird tuning, but as far as I know, it's drop C)
First Blood [Hardcore/ Metalcore]
Glass Casket [Deathcore]
God Forbid* [Metalcore]
Heaven Shall Burn [Metalcore]
Himsa [Metalcore]
Hiroshima Will Burn [Deathcore]
Impartial Dismemberment [Deathcore]
Miss May I [Metalcore]
A Perfect Murder [Metalcore]
Scars of Tomorrow [Metalcore]
Shadows Fall* [Metalcore]
Stick To Your Guns [Metalcore]

Drop C#:
Belay My Last [Deathcore]
A Dozen Furies [Metalcore]

D Standard/Full Step Down:
Biohazard [Hardcore/Rapcore]
Life of Agony [Hardcore]

Impending Doom [Deathcore]
Liferuiner [Deathcore/Moshcore]
Oceano [Deathcore]

E Standard:
Cro-Mags [Hardcore]
Overcast [Metalcore/ Hardcore]
Sick of It All [Hardcore]
Winds of Plague [Deathcore]

B Standard (6 Strings):
Despised Icon [Deathcore]

C Standard:
Diecast [Metalcore]

Drop D:
E-Town Concrete [Hardcore/ Rapcore]
A Life Once Lost [Metalcore]
Manntis [Metalcore]
This Or The Apocalypse [Metalcore]

Drop A#:
Emmure [Deathcore/ Moshcore/ Nu Metal]
Eternal Lord [Deathcore]
From The Shallows [Deathcore]
I Declare War [Deathcore]

Eb Standard/Half Step Down:
Stapmin' Ground [Metalcore]

*Catalepsy also play in drop A, but with the low A as an A#. A#EADF#B.
*Devildriver also play in drop C for their 2 latest records, if I remember correctly.
*God Forbid also play in D standard, drop C#, and some 7 string tuning(that I do not know).
*Shadows Fall also play in D standard/full step down, and drop D.

I hope this list helps, sorry if any of the tunings or genres are wrong.

Song Exceptions
Protest The Hero - Drop C#

Heretics & Killers, Divinity Within, Bury The Hatchet, A Plateful Of Our Dead

I'll think of the ACUOS ones if they are existent.

Make sure to add a song exception for Nobody's Perfect, I think it is in Drop C, but I don't remember (THE FALL OF TROY).

Also, although I don't play hardcorepunk, should you work on those too?

I'd guess standard for most, although some may do D standard or 1/2 step down. Some emo bands along the more indie side use weird alternate tunings. My FAVORITE TUNING EVER which I use on my acoustic is FACGCE. Low E up to an F, D down to a C and the b up to a C. Really fun tuning. American Football uses it, which is how I found it.

Also, if anyone knows any other bands in drop G# (or A# standard), I'd appreciate it! I'm in the tuning now and use it to write my own stuff, but would like to learn some songs as well. I'm learning a bunch of Within The Ruins now and it's hard as shit. Fun though.

You either a, ask the band, like through Myspace or whatever. Or b, go in to the tuning you think they play in, and mess around with the song you're trying to learn, if the open note sounds to high, go down a half or full step.

As far as I know, Converge have used a ton of different tunings. Kurt's tuned the lowest string down to a G for In Her Blood, and an A for Grim Heart/Black Rose. It's also speculated at least that he uses C G C F G# C for Jane Doe.

I would say more Whitechapel, they never bored me, songs like This is Exile, Possession, Prostatic Fluid, Fairy Fay, Devirgination Studies, and the already recommended song, The Somatic Defilement.

As for harder stuff, possibly Beneath The Massacre?

You could always tune up to B standard and learn some Despised Icon, Unearth, and Through The Eyes of The Dead.

And the only other thing I can say is tune up to drop B, there's a shit load more fun stuff in that tuning, I've got a huge list, it's just half the bands in drop A are like *chugchug pinch harmonic chugchug*.

Thanks man! I've actually been working on Black Santa, Fermented Offal Discharge by Necrophagist, Empires Erased and Coldly Calculated Design, so you hit a lot of the areas I'm already learning haha.

Yeah man, I'm working on Empires Erased currently, there's only like 2 more riffs I have to get down, then it's going on the tube.

pretty sure concubine and fault and fracture are in CGCFAbC, at least that's how I play them.

The tabs are in drop C, I think. Not saying that's their correct tuning.

Bump for new Acacia tuning, drop F, or is it F#?
F from what I can tell.
Lowest note in The Hills Have Eyes is an F#, but the intro to Terminated is definitely an F.

I'd probably kill a man to get Kurt Ballou to send me correct tabs of their songs.

what guitar tunings are common in emo and screamo bands like on the might of princes and daïtro and even touché amoré?

Can't speak for all of those bands but I know for a fact that Touche Amore plays in C standard.

anyone know what cruel hand plays in?

D standard, I believe.

trash talk tuning?

Drop D.

Also, most of the bands covered in this thread should be in the "Metal" section and far away from hardcore.

Somebody please figure out what tuning Knives Exchanging Hands uses.

Er... used.

Should be, but the metal forum's full of elitists who refuse to discuss anything that isn't tr00 metal, so deathcore and metalcore get shoved into the hardcore forum. You'll get used to it after a while.

Isn't it drop B? I thought that was pretty accepted.

I've only ever seen like two people even speculate about it, and I remember hearing drop C.

I didn't know Converge used Drop C. Always figured it was some standard tuning or something.

I think As A Star Dies is in Drop B I learned it and played it in B. And JuckFicsh tabbed a part of one of the songs out and he said drop C.

Yeah, so you can see where my confusion comes in.

Also I just figured out the notes in the beginning of The Death of Pappy Gatmus but I can't figure out the time signature and note timing at all.

Here are some bands for the main post:
C# Standard:
Architects. Sometimes tune the low C# to G#

Drop C:
Trap Them
Backstabbers Inc.
Black Breath (pretty sure, may be C Standard though)
Cursed
Counterparts

Drop B:
Journal
A Textbook Tragedy

Drop G#:
The Contortionist

Dangers play in E standard on everything except for Messy, Isn't it?, where they play in D standard, minus I'll Clap When I'm Impressed, which is in Drop C.
Structures play in Drop A# on 7 strings, with the 7th string tuned to G.

One of the mods should probably sticky this thread.

Not all of it - only Hollow and Unrest I think,
The rest are split between A# and B.

JFAC use Drop C on Doom, Drop A# on Genesis, and D Standard for Ruination except for the title track which is in C standard.
