I feel the same way about Metallica as I do about the movie Cry Baby. If you've seen that movie, you might understand what I'm getting at. The music is campy and kind of tacky, generally giving off a feel like, "I can't believe THIS band got popular." It's the same reason I listen to the first Slayer album (which rules) and Wu-Tang's Enter The 36 Chambers (which also rules).

I had heard Drop Dead was still around but wasn't sure. I hope, even if it is extremely unlikely, they come to Edmonton at some point, I'd be stoked to see that set (even if it is ten minutes long).

From everything I can tell, Drop Dead = Dropdead in this thread.
Slightly on topic, I was wearing my Dropdead shirt at a show and some little scene kid said "Hey, are you going to their show next week?" and pointed to my shirt. I said "uh...what?" "Yeah, Drop Dead Gorgeous is playing here next week." "oh...uh...completely different band." "oh."

I loled. Then I cried.

JxD, I'm not sure if you got my pm a few weeks ago because A) my pm's haven't been working regularly and B) I didn't get a response, but I had mentioned that since I don't know my new address in full yet, that I was going to abstain from sending out the money for the tape/giving you my new address. I'm glad I got my first lolstack from someone who has been here on UG for more than 2 weeks. That would be basically like losing your virginity to a practice girl. This is much more like banging the head cheerleader for your first time. It still really means next to nothing, and is wholly unfulfilling, but it does more for your self esteem.

The cheer-team at my school was dead last in the entire city. Seriously, the least talented group of girls I've ever seen attempting to dance. I know nothing about dancing, nor am I really partial towards it, all I knew is that when my schools cheer team was performing, they were doing something perverse to the rest of the world. So, had I lost my virginity to the head cheerleader, it would have likely diminished my self-esteem.

I just wanted to put that out there in lieu of Nash's blanket assumption that head-cheerleaders have esteem-increasing qualities.

nashawa
08-23-2010, 02:17 AM
My school didn't even have a cheer squad. I've never seen a cheerleader in my life.

And although it was obviously implied, I'm going to backtrack and point out I never said "self-esteem increasing", only that "it would do more for my self esteem", ie, -1 is more than -3.

UntoExistence
08-23-2010, 02:30 AM

08-23-2010, 02:36 AM

I wish I had learned to read music and learn note values when I was a kid or at least a teenager. I have no grasp whatsoever on music theory, it just goes over my head. Band situations can be fun because of this (not actually fun). I really should have at least got guitar lessons, that was stupid of me to overlook (I have no time now).
