So, I'm sure half of you weren't even around for it, but a while back we did this little collaborative Ramones tribute.

Well, digging through my files, I happened upon three of the seven tracks that were submitted.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jhmmk5

Enjoy.

I think we should do another one. But good >_>

'cause I'd be up for anything

BrianApocalypse

Not the Ramones, another band.

OR, any band.

And by any band, I don't mean any punk band, but they all have to be punk covers.

We could do a punk version of a shitty rnb compilation, for example.

The problem with the idea of a tribute is that it would be really hard to come up with a band besides something like the Ramones or Black Flag or Crass or Op Ivy that enough people could get into.

We should really just make a collection of EPs and all branch off and do what we want. A collection of mini-tributes. So here's how this could work out:

Jawbreaker. Too many of you like them. A tribute EP would be no problem.
Subhumans. Come on. Who doesn't like the Subhumans?
Bad Religion. You know, something for all the non-regs to submit that isn't Rancid or NOFX.
The Queers, Screeching Weasel, or any of the other popular pop-punk bands.

I'd be willing to help people learn songs so long as they aren't difficult to learn or like Lemuria with nothing but made-up chords. (molly what the hell those songs are weird)

So you know what, let's do it. We haven't had any forum-wide shenanigans in a while. Let's get something going. Or I will be forced to call you all girly-men.

I know there was at least a Black Flag one.. I was supposed to do Rise Above but never did.

I'd be up for bad religion, as long as my lot get to do Social Suicide.

Dead Kennedys would obviously be fine.

Black Flag would be good, if I can call shotgun on six pack.

Buzzcocks

Descendents would be good.
LOL THEN WE COULD NAME IT MILO GOES TO UG

but really Descendents would be fun. Though that would spawn an epic battle over who gets to do Hope...

I think that everyone picking their own band to cover would be kinda lame as it would just be a comp of unrelated covers.

Awesome Rob.

So I think doing blocks of 3 songs would be ideal. So if we put all this shit together people would obviously wanna do DK and we might get 6 songs out of them. So we could have a block of 3 DK songs on one part of the comp and another block of DK later in so we could still have the 6 songs without making all the bands with 3 songs get drowned out.

JORDAN: You told me you'd do acoustic Limp Wrist songs if I tabbed out all of Thee Official Limp Wrist Discography.

WHICH I DID.

Get on it.

I'd be happy to contribute. I'm not a big fan of the multiple-bands thing though. It's alright, but I think all of us contributing to one album would give it more unity. I think DK and The Clash are the best choices. Black Flag would be fine too, but I wouldn't really be too enthusiastic about covering any of their songs. Too serious.

I wish I could've worked on the Ramones album. I would have done Teenage Lobotomy.

I'd almost rather do CRASS than Subhumans... mostly because covering a Subhumans song basically just means you're making a great song slightly worse... Covering CRASS, on the other hand opens a whole world of creativity to be had. You'd have to be pretty creative to make it worse, and there are a lot of cool ways you could make it better.

axeslash
01-13-2010, 08:38 PM
So here's the way I think we should do this.

3 songs per band, or 6 or 9; you get the idea.
If one person covers a song no one else gets to cover it. This is just to keep things interesting.
Acoustic, instrumental, whatever. Do what you want. We're internet punx and we don't take shit from anyone.

I think a good idea would be to make a thread detailing who's planning on doing what so you guys can organize/fight over who gets to cover what. I don't know how many bands we can cover but I think we should make this a bit more of a long term project in the sense that we should do this until we're all sick of it.

If you guys are cool I'll go ahead and make the thread and organize this. I'm down.
