Against Him?

so vampire weekend put out a cover of ruby soho by rancid.

wondering what you guys think?
personally i think it lost all it's charm, but then again i really like tim's voice and think it's one the main thing that makes the band and all their songs what they are.

i do like vampire weekend a lot and like the idea of them paying tribute to rancid tho.

edit: whoops forgot the link

Saw this on punknews earlier and the ignorance of the comments on there was ridiculous, i really don't think its too bad at all but for all their false anarchic crap most punks tend to be elitist ass hats and i can't see that ever changing, i think VW put their own twist on it and i really doubt it was meant to be taken very seriously.

I couldn't stand it. No Randicd song was ever meant to sound like that

I think that it could have made a really fantastic, grandiose chilled out kind of song, but Vampire Weekend didn't have the talent to pull it off.

If it had the passion of the original, and an IN KEY vocal performance that actually had the strong points of the ORIGINAL VOCAL MELODY and the GUITARIST COULD ACTUALLY PLAY and the BASS PLAYER ACTUALLY PLAYED THE ODD BASS NOTE (seriously, what he does is just as bad as bass players who only play on one string) and if the DRUMMER did a better beat in some of the sections, it could have been really good.

If this band actually had some talent, I would acknowledge that.

But hell, I could do a better sh*tty indie music version of this song. I'd do it quite well, too.

For the record, I like Lady Gaga and Pixie Lott, so don't lay any of your "Brian don't like it and is therefore an elitist" bullcrap on me, son.

Meh. It wasn't terrible, but I didn't exactly like it. It seems like their guitarist is completely incapable of playing on the bottom two strings. And as Brian mentioned, I think the bassist should've actually played some notes down in the bass register. It's almost as if their goal was to take all the low end out of the song.

Brian lets hear your cover of this song. ;]

I second this :)

I especially like the beginning.

I just listened to the VW version. Honestly it's not as bad as I expected from you guys' reactions. Still pretty bad.

So long as you bedazzled it yourself or had a crusty do it, it is indeed, punk, however, whether it is just punk or punk as fuck cannot be determined without pics.
