So I'm a complete folk punk addict, and I know pretty much every major band in the genre. My favorites, by far, are the angry, acoustic punk acts such as Pat the Bunny (Johnny Hobo/Wingnut), Mischief Brew, Tom Frampton, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Defiance, Ohio and Ghost Mice and This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, but I want something a bit harder most of the time.

So, to sum it up, I'm looking for angry, raspy, underground (even in terms of folk punk) stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated :).

Folk punk is boring.

Besides, if you wanna ask a question like this go to the punk recommendations thread. It's stickied so I imagine you can find it.

Yeah, most folk punk is actually pretty boring.

I really hate the whole Irish folk punk thing, that's the worst. It f*ckin' sucks, especially when there's the whole fake voice thing.

9 times out of 10 the whole irish-ness is exxaggerated too.

Tarantulas attack

They're more in line with Against Me! than folk punk, but you'll probably still like it.

Pedals on Our Pirate Ships

They're not that angsty like you're asking for. Again, you'd probably like them anyways. Something fresh at least.

Yeah, I can't stand most irish folk-punk. Some bands pull it off but the majority are just annoying. I like all the suggestions so far besides Ryan Harvey, I don't like any riot folk artists besides Evan Greer and Tom Frampton.

Just skip this and listen to 'nam era folk.

Same hate for the government, less songs that sound awful.

I'm not looking for lyrical content so much as the voice. I prefer folk-punk that's more personal anyway.

Pedals on Our Pirate Ships
Have you heard Matt's new punk band, Drunk Hugs, yet? They only have a rough four song demo out, but they're amazing live. myspace.com/drunkhugs

Also, as for my recommendation: don't get super into folk punk. I did, and now I can stand it. Other than Pedals, of course.

This too, though I wouldn't call Paul Baribeau aggressive.

Yea, but he said he liked introspective folk artists, so I figured I could slide in.

The Devil Makes Three

Everyone should listen to them. EVERYONE.

Prince

too bad the devil make three are not punk in anyway shape or form. they are a pretty cool band, like the music, but it sucks they are kind of turning into rock star dick wads. i saw them like 2 years ago for around 5 bucks, and last time they played around me it was 28 dollars in a venue that was completely seated. what the **** is up with that? im not going to an opera.

I went to their show last Friday but stayed outside drinking the entire time.... I'm sure they'd approve.

yeah im not too big a fan myself. a few songs are cracking, but they get kind of old. i hate going to a show and have shitty bands force me to drink outside. same thing happened when i went to see citizen fish and leftover crack was playing too, what a horrible band they are.

^^^^ I've never paid more than $15 to see the devil makes three hah, plus as far as the "not being punk in anyway shape or form" while technically correct, any fan of "folk punk" could definitely get into them

My real question for you is where are you from? considering you know both the devil makes three and blackbird raum i'm guessing somewhere bay areaish?

I just quoted this to agree with its articulate reasoning and lucid logic, then realised it was my post.

So yeah, go me!

Monsters in the Attic just released a horror punk/ acoustic album titled "tales from the worm". Its an awesome album and pretty edgy. Check out Zombie girl if you can.
