Are there any bands out there similar to first-wave pop-punk (Old Green Day, Offspring, etc)? Because from what I can tell, Pop-Punk pretty much is dead today with bands like Fall Out Boy.

Hate to be on topic here but I just noticed this.

The title says "pretty much dead" and you give him a band that doesn't play anymore and a band that's officially broken up to emphasis that its not?

That rec is seven years old, fool. They broke up a year and a half ago.
AND IT'S NEVER GONNA BE THE SAME AGAAAAIIIIIIIN.

Anyway, this thread is fun.
There's tons of pop-punk. Tons of it. Also, the first wave of pop-punk didn't start in the 80s. And... I don't think that pop-punk is something that you can really put in waves... Since it's never died and it still sounds the same...

This. I like some of the 90's pop-punk and like really early greenday; up too dookiee basicly.

but my honest opinion Pop-punk and all bands that are considerd punk that came out in the last decade, half of them are not punk at all.

And also. pretty sure there is a Pop-punk subforum.

First off, what does this have to do with "New Wave"?

Secondly, making such a broad statement as "half of them are not punk at all" is pretty grandiose considering I highly doubt you've even heard a tiny fraction of bands that have come out in the last decade.

Thirdly, :wtf:

like i said a figment of the imagination. because i dont think you understand what punk is it started out with just some crappy bands playing fast music in basements and very few people liked it and thats how we wanted it. so all these people changing the sound of the music, the lifestyle and making it popular makes it just bad pop music. no punk in there man because every real punk out there is in no way affiliated with this music so just because these so called "pop punks" spike there hair and wear plaid doesnt make them punk. because punk isnt a fashion and its not a uniform.

Considering my dad was part of the original wave of punk, I'm fairly sure I've got a better insight than you do. Nice try though. You know, especially considering I've seen a fair few bands from the first wave of punk. And two from before that.

Oh, and by the way, if you couldn't tell, that was a joke post >_>

You're going by the false definition of pop-punk - ie. bands like Sum 41 and stuff? Yeah they're crap. Check out my two posts where I was the only person who was actually useful at all. That's pop-punk. And they still play pubs and basements and stuff. And they look like normal people.

So yeah >_>

you realize im quoting the guy who made this thread right? and how does it not...do you know anything about music? new wave is just pretty much all this new stuff thats not the same as the original punk and what did that evolve into..."pop punk"!
New wave was stuff like Devo and Talking Heads. I don't really know much about it, but I know it's completely different to what most people incorrectly think is pop-punk. And actually, it's completely different to what is pop-punk.

Oh, and I did an A level in music tech, so I know a damn sight more about music than you.

This post was probably a bit crap, 'cause it's 4 in the morning and I'm ****ing tired, but oh well.
