Early Sunn o))) is heavy shit.
Khanate! Holy balls, have you seen that video of the guy shooting himself in the mirror? THAT'S heavy on every level.
I've been listening to a group called Mary Bell who are heavy as hell too.

Slow is heavy to me, like dragging a weight along the ground. Fast is just fast. Not that I'm not into a bit of that too.

electric wizard by far.

other than that, a few goregrind bands write genuinely heavy riffs (not just fast and / or chugged, like what most people seem to do when they want to write something heavy)

check out the league of extraordinary graverobbers, by general surgery.

Well, that's... that's just an incredibly original statement. Nice to know people can still critically analyze stuff without relying on others' input and observations.

The band Mingus led on the Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. That album has the most brutally crushing riffs.

I actually like some Sunn O))) stuff. I'm not a giant fan, but it seems like someone once said "hey, those guys sound like a refrigerator and One Republic is awes0me!" and now everyone, instead of giving them a fair listen just just blindly follows suit.

Maybe, or maybe it's because they DO sound like a fridge. :p:

The Wildchild

Well I don't feel that Sunn O)))'s heavy as in the hard-hitting in-your-face heavy, nor the crushing, doom ridden heavy which is pulled off exceptionally by bands like Moss, they're more ambient than anything. I do like the soundscapes projected by Sunn O))), but to listen to them just because "their the hevist band everzzz!!111" justifies the naysayers' stand on the gimmick aspect of the band (shit inducing drones). It's just annoying that just because they use super fucking low tunings everyone says they're the HEAVIEST band ever. Sunn O))) sounds like a fridge, a very good one at that.

I'm surprised someone actually took my post seriously :haha:

well if you mean heavy as in "that breakdown is seriously amazing" then I would say either Whitechapel or Oceano.

If you mean heavy as in "those are some looooow notes" then I would say Boris

If you mean heavy as in "...holy shit what just happened" then I would say Brain Drill

If you mean heavy as in "this is great technically with crushing riffs and excellent players" I would say Gojira

If you mean heavy as in "this song has deep lyrics" then I would say Mouth of the Architect

If you mean heavy as in band members' weights, I would say anything with Dino Cazares

my point is that there are a lot of definitions of "heavy." if you are looking for new bands, you might want to specify some examples.

Gojira are fantastic and probably one of the best bands I've seen live. But I wouldn't say that they're technical...

I take everything everyone says seriously.

Internets are serious business.

In all honestly though, it seems like a lot of people, and not necessarily in this case, say stuff, and then when someone calls them out, they just say they weren't being serious to cut off the other person. I don't care who likes Sunn O))), but I just feel that a lot of people have preconceived notions about bands.
