And to guy above - mind elaborating how they were at any point at all "punkish"? Please note that you will have to demonstrate at least a vague knowledge (the less vague the better) of punk, or else we'll all glare at you and call you silly.

Unless Axe is involved, in which case he'll have a little rant at you including calling you various parts of the human anatomy.

Canada is derived from Kanata, an indigenous word for "the village"

And yeah, I do that too :p:.

I'm currently listening to some demos I've been working on, they're essentially a fusion of the styles of Barbra Streisand and Torsofuck.

I don't really listen to music by actual bands or anything at the moment, because I think they all suck. I'm the only person in the world with any talent right now, that's how special and awesome I actually am.

But I don't wanna get arrogant, I need to keep the record-buyers on my side.

I've been rocking out to Against Me!'s As The Eternal Cowboy lately. I hadn't listened to them for the longest time, but after seeing them Monday night I figured I'd revisit the shit, since they were one of the first punk bands I got into & everything.
I listened to Reinventing Axl Rose and decided that it wasn't as good as I used to think. All the non-new songs are worse than their original incarnations, and the screaming vocals irritated me (which they never did when I was 16). I think As The Eternal Cowboy was their best album. I've always loved the guitar sound on it. Plus they can "whoah" with the best of 'em.

Maybe I'll give New Wave another chance this weekend, but my expectations are still low.

I love that one, too. I totally agree. I think the first five tracks are really solid, and then the album kinda goes downhill. I mean, I like the album, but it doesn't touch their previous works. Even Louder Than Bombs is a more consistent record. Go figure.

I was listening to Hard Days Night by The Beatles while I was driving in the car earlier, and it was one of the most boring records I've ever heard. I was all "God damn it, these songs are lame! Why can't the Beatles sound more like the Buzzcocks?" I know they got more "experimental" in later years, but my Beatles experience thus far has left me unimpressed.

Then I listened to 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and I was all "God damn it, Jawbreaker is so good. "

And then I listened to Neu! '75 and was like "God damn it, Neu! is so good too!"

werty22
06-03-2010, 07:56 PM
Yeah, I think most people agree that The Beatles didn't really make solid, cohesive albums until Rubber Soul. I guess no pop/rock bands did in those days, though.

Actually now that I think about it I don't like any of them all that much. For a band with so many good songs, they don't have any really good albums. The White Album comes close.

neidnarb11890
06-03-2010, 08:53 PM

I never bothered to look at that list, but apparently The Beatles do actually have 4 mind-blowing albums. I stand corrected.

I also thought Bob Dylan was a boring wannabe-gentile, but apparently I was wrong about that too.

2/3 of Bruce Springsteen's albums are on the list? Really? Ugh.

I like where this thread is going. Y'know, actually discussing music instead of n00bs telling us the song they're listening to at the moment. Maybe this won't be so stupid after all.

For me, most of the albums at around the #120 mark on that list are what I'd consider to be some of the greatest of all time.
Not to mention how stuff like Kid A, Maggot Brain and Entertainment! are scattered beyond the #400 milestone.

Eh, I'm near the end of another listen to H61R right now and I still don't understand what people see in it. I'm guessing it's the lyrics. It must be, because the music itself is indisputably boring. I see how people like that he raised the bar for pop songwriting and whatnot, but I really don't care personally. I much prefer nonsense lyrics with awesome music.

My taste in music, or the music I listen to or whatever, has grown a lot, but I still find myself listening to a handful of bands much more often than others. For example, I listen to an unhealthy amount of The Smiths. But sometimes I go over to my CD shelf and look at all my CD's and I'm like "man, what do I wanna listen to in the car today? Anything? EVERYTHING? NOTHING?" And then I stand there for like five minutes deliberating.
