Hi I have this Bob Dylan album on Vinyl LP, it was origionally released in 1966.

My LP has the date 1966 on it - so does that mean mine is a first edition.

I need a definative answer from someone experienced on this subject

Many thanks

The stuff written on the back side of the jacket, and on the label of the LP itself, serves as both copyright and release year information. 1966 written alone could be indicative of a first edition, but it's not necessarily definitive.

If on the jacket or sleeve, there is a date for each song, or, a simple paragraph stating "all songs written..." and it has a year written there, that information is pertinent to the specific artist's (in this case Bob Dylan) publishing company. This is done either by album or a song by song basis all depending on when the material in question was written and/or copywritten. These dates would never be later, and are capable of being earlier than the actual year the album was first pressed.

However, if it says 1966 followed by a comma and any year afterward, it would definitely not be a first edition release.

Are you trying to determine it's value? Or settle an idle curiosity?
