I never see threads like this so i thought i would make one but i think the best drummer is Josh Freese from NIN and many other bands

Dave Grohl is personally my favourite, but he's definitely not the best

Probably Buddy Rich or John Bonham

I wouldn't even rate alot of rock drummers who dont play out of 4/4.

I'd go for Mike Portnoy, Buddy Rich or some sort of jazz dude.

Matt Greiner is pretty damn good

Portnoy probably. I personally thing Peart is overrated, in anything I've heard of his, I've been underwhelmed. One of my favorites though, is Travis Barker. Say what you will, his songs are just so damn fun to play to. (On drums, anyhow.)

Eric Valentine; he is actually a producer but he is a sick drummer as well.

Mike Costa who's played in the arrogant sons of bitches and bomb the music industry! Some of the stuff he does in both bands is so skilled and is amazing to listen to.

I have a lot of respect for Brooks Whackerman of Bad Religion (and other bands). It takes excellent technique to play that fast for two hours and BR got through a lot of drummers before Brooks joined them.

There is no best, only favorites. And my favorite is Tony Williams.

I agree with the first bit. The second bit I certainly understand, though I wouldn't say he's my favourite.

Dave Weckl, Denis Chambers, Steve Gadd, Jeff Sipe, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chad Wackerman, Gary Husband, and many more, there's alot of great drummers out there.

They're not my FAVORITE band, but I'd have to say Thomas Pridgen from The Mars Volta. He is amazing. I saw one of the last concerts he played at, and they were really really tight.

Personally i'd say Jimmy/The Rev - whichever you know him by.

As for who is ACTUALLY the best, I'm not in the best position to judge, what with me not knowing anything about drumming.

So i'm gonna stick with Jimmy.

My favourites are Des Kensel and Jose Pasillas, but they definitely aren't the best drummers out there.

I will personally kill anyone who thinks Lars Ulrich is a good drummer. I can do better than him, and I don't even play drums!

No such things as "best drummer" but I would say Tool's Danny Carey, John Bonham, and Incubus' Jose Pasillas

Terry Bozio

Jazz Funeral

^Yes, Bozio is one of my favorites. Other favorites include; Jim Capaldi, Richie Hayward, Billy Cobham, Carter Beauford, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe, Matt Abts, John Bonham, Ringo Starr, Steve Gorman, Artemis Pyle, Paul Riddle, John Fishman, Kenny Jones, Charlie Watts, Yonrico Scott, Jeff Sipe, and the late, great Buddy Miles.

Ringo? One of the best of all time? :haha: No, no, no.

Travis Barker is definitely up there in terms of best drummers in recent years.
I don't know the names of many drummers though.

I will personally kill anyone who thinks Lars Ulrich is a good drummer. I can do better than him, and I don't even play drums!

Then it's funny because you can't.
You seem to hate Metallica. I say this because well, it's pretty obvious. He isn't a bad drummer at all. He's good. But a LOT of people are good. That's not saying much. He isn't bad, just not one of the best.

As a person, I think Ringo is a knob. But, denying his place as a contender for one of the best drummers ever is silly, at best.

I'm not sure how it's silly. I have 8 of their studio albums plus two compilations and their Live at BBC CD. I've seen videos of them live and he is not that great at all. Certainly not one of the best ever. I'm wondering if there's another person named Ringo Starr now.

Travis Orbin from Sky Eats Airplane would have to my favourite lately, check him out on youtube.

My favourites are Buddy Rich, John Bonham, and Chad Smith. I think in a few years, people are really going to start appreciate Smith a lot more. His work with RHCP is good, but he's so much better than that. Listen to Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, an instrumental progressive band. That guy creates the melodies with his drumlines.

Edit: I forgot to mention Travis Barker. I saw that guy live twice. Unbelievable drum solos.

Does anyone know who Derek Roddy is? Blake Richardson? Lyle Cooper? Travis Orbin? Sean Reinert? Brann Dailor? Hanns Grossman? Marco Minnemann..? Could go on forever really...
Portnoy.. Good, but overrated.
Jordison.. Terrible, and overrated.
Peart.. Old, decent, and overrated.
Ulrich.. Rofl.
All 4 are very influential for alot of people though. I'll give them that.
What is Travis Barker even good at anymore? Just making remixes of rap songs? With the most simplistic beats ever?
