But ultimately this is a stupid argument:

different genres + different opinions = you're a fucking idiot

personally i like suicide silence more even though there are way better metal bands.

you can't really compare the two. korn's early stuff was good for "nu metal" and the beat box part in freak on a leash is the shit. suicide silence is prettty good but havent really contributed anything new to music

Exactly. It's stupid to argue. Plus, aren't these kinds of threads forbidden for that reason?

I said i know they're different genres

I know you did, I can read. However accepting the fact that they are completely different make you even more of an idiot for trying to compare them.

An extreme example:

I know that an orange and the Empire State Building are two entirely different, incomparable entities yet I'm going to try anyway. In this case one is a fruit, one is a big building.

It's is impossible to compare two albums of different genre because they only similarity is that they both use a Guitar based sound and down tune... guess what, so do some Jazz Musicians and you'd never try and compare them to a metal band would you.

In that case, Sting beats everybody, because this thing (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45182000/jpg/_45182049_bf5ceb9d-5cdd-4893-be05-785da4c84e64.jpg) has a shit-ton of strings on it.

If you were a musician and knew about music theory, you would realize that the notes, are still the same, whether it be jazz or metal. They use the same scales and chords Also, what does down-tuning have to do with anything? If you do whole step down tuning, and you move up 2 frets, it will be the original note.

You do realise that has nothing to do with anything right? :haha: The notes are always the same, a note is a note dumbass. The enalogy about the Jazz players were simply to point out that you can take bands with similar instrumentation which are still uncomparable because they aren't trying to do the same thing.

I'm basically saying that trying to compare a Deathcore band to a Nu-Metal band is pointless because they're both trying to achieve completely different sounds, for a different fanbase and are in no way in direct competition. What do you not understand about this?

A note may be a note no matter what, but the way you play a note is completely different. Take the note "D", for example. In a metal band, they would "attack" that note and make it strong and loud (Some bands, seeing as sound changes from person to person), in Jazz, they would take a more easier approach towards it (Again, some). It is how it is played that makes the difference, not what is being played.

And as for the drop tunings, they add a certain aesthetic that standard tunings don't have. It adds a more feedbacky/muddy vibe. If you transpose a song in C-Standard to E-Standard, it will sound basically the same, but the C-Standard will have a certain vibe to it that adds to the tone.

Pretty sure Meshuggah started with 6 strings, then moved to 7s a couple of years in and then 8s, but I think Fear Factory have been using 7s since Concrete and Soul of a New Machine.

Hey, here's another pointless post in a thread that will inevitably be closed because TS can't read. No one can argue that this post isn't more or less the best one in the thread.

Plus, did Morbid Angel use a 7 string on Covenant or does he downtune, or did i just make that up?

Korn because their music actually resembles music, whereas Suicide Silence consists of breakdowns and pseudo-death metal riffing with some of the worst vocals I've ever heard in my life. Their music sounds like a parody of Job for a Cowboy's "Doom" EP and makes it sound like Cryptopsy's "None So Vile" in comparison.

Korn was also one of the first bands that I listened to and helped me get into heavier music.

And didn't Morbid Angel play drop A on 6 strings?

Macabre_Turtle

I prefer listening to Suicide Silence, but....

Korn was definitely Suicide Silences biggest influence, and they were more original, and actually made a difference in music.
