Hey, guys I was wondering what you guys think are the most requested/overplayed songs that people ask you to play when they find out you know how to play the guitar?
You know, Wonerwall, Free bird, etc.

thanks!

i get banana pancakes and better together a lot from girls, because im also a fan of Jack Johnson so i guess i kinda deserve it. When i'm playing electric guitar, alot of people just say "Do somethin crazy"

Crazy Train gets requested quite a bit.
If I'm on bass they always want to hear Ice Ice Baby (and yes, I know what song it really is)

Edited for being whiny, but I'm really, really tired of being asked if I know any Taylor Swift by people who don't know any better. Or Blink 182, by a totally different category of people who don't know any better.

Things have gone downhill a lot since the days where dad ripped Stairway To Heaven out of his big book o' guitar music so visitors wouldn't see it.

Master of Puppets is the one I hear the most....ugh. Either that or some Nickelback song. Then they look at me all confused when I start playing Deftones or AIC.

The same as everyone else

Freebird - Id' be a rich man if I got a penny for everytime I've been asked.

SMells Like Teen Spirit - Just because I play a Jag-Stang does not mean I want to play that song 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times in my life

Stairway to Heaven - .....
If you ask me to play
And I'm not in the mood today
you'll be buying your stairway...to heaven

Wojnderwall - It's a wonder this song has not died since I heard it on the radio in between runs of "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Burden in my Hand" in 1997.

House of the Rising Sun - Is'nt it about time for that house's sun to set?

Crazy Train - The irony is the song will be a pretty accurate self description if It gets requested, not to mention I get BORED of this song fast while playing it.

It's Been Awhile - It's been awhile, and I intend to make that while longer!

Anything by The Jonas Bros - Basically a cheap clone of A-ha, minus the Genunie-side of things

Anything by John Mayer - Girls love this guy, does this mean I need to buy a strat just like his too?

Anything by Taylor Swift - Yeah, a swift kick to the shins....

And if it's ZZ Top, it's always LaGrange, but I guess that's better than the rest of the list...

On a somewhat related note, if this forum had a thumbs-up system like some forums do, I would have used it to give Mad-Mike_J83's post a thumbs-up. It covers most of the worst offenses.

I guess to play guitar (http://takelessons.com/category/guitar-lessons) , you need all the mad skills that is incorporated on that one. I just think that other than playing it, you need to really have some good things in stored for you. I hope that it goes out well in the long run.

My close friends ask me how much La Dispute I know. The friends who aren't as close with me know that I only play hardcore punk and ambient stuff, so they don't bother.

I don't give away that I can play guitar at parties or social gatherings, I'd prefer people to find out on their own. That way, I'm not "that guy".

Well depends on the person. Shitty people ask for Taylor Swift. I have never actually bothered listening to one of her songs long enough to learn it, but just playing a typical, barre-free chord progression (e.g. G Em C D) seems to keep them happy so I'm assuming that's all her songs are.

Sometimes people ask for Stairway or Smoke On The Water. I had learnt both at one point, then I realised I didn't want to play them anymore because everyone played them and it was annoying. I can still play them though, just to keep people from being irritating

A couple ask for random folk music and traditional songs. Christy Moore usually does it for them.

Some ask for Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Hey Jude, House Of The Rising Sun etc. which are simple as hell, so that's easy to do.

Yeah. That's pretty much it.

EDIT: Also, everything the guy above said
