uhh... metallica, suicide silence and children of bodom and in flames arent metalcore. just putting that out there.. suicide silence is deathcore i think..metalica is thrash metal (Well originally anyways) bodom is like..i dont even know how to classify them

but bands i listen to are as i lay dying, avenged sevenfold, bullet for my valentine, all that remains...the rest of the stuff i have is just different genres like prog rock, prock metal, alternative rock, punk rock, hardcore punk (which is the real hardcore.. lol), post hardcore punk, melodic punk, and just many other genres. sadly i have a couple country songs and one rap singer.. thats about it for those though.

pinkly smooth (a spinoff of avenged sevenfold really because its the deceased drummer, and the lead guitarist) is kind of metalcore i guess but its lighter kind of stuff...mostly sung.

atreyu?

trivium?

shadows fall?

panterA?

but honestly..all the things we suggest arent going to be what everyone else likes. for instance my favs (a7x, bullet for my valentine) people tend to hate a lot and call "gay",etc. as i would say i dont really like metallica or bodom at ALL. (just my opinion, not hating or saying they are talentless because they do have talent, just i dont have a musical interest in them so please dont attack me for saying it lol)

I saw Emmure being recommended... Ugh, just no. My avatar? Painted In Exile? Yes?

You guys really need to chill out though with the genre Nazi thing it gets old, I've never seen anyone outside of this forum refer to hardcore the right way... so most of the time its probably not a lack of intelligence just bad information and being naive in terms of heavy music. I remember 2 years ago when I thought ABR was obnoxiously heavy and brutal, and deathcore was simply laughable, and now...

Whoever posted After the Burial is awesome, I will now be listening to this on a regular basis.

I still think they do it better then everyone else in the genre, and to me they don't sound cliche.

But it really was the first "heavy" band I was ever into so I guess there's some sentimental nostalgic attachement to them, and I love their lyrics.

Putting words into my mouth... I didn't say their production is bad, I love how dirty it is, that's one of the reasons why I listen to them. They're one of the few bands with extremely dirty production that I enjoy listening to. And immensely.

I like how all the scenecore kids always refuse to say Converge is heavy.

They aren't. Maybe heavy in terms of 'chaotic aggression' or whatever you want to say, but that's not usually what makes me think heavy. Their production seems to focus alot on treble and just overall distortion of everything. It just doesn't have a really 'full' feel.

Honestly, it's like you people just ignore arguments that have been made, even if they prove your point wrong. No Heroes is an INCREDIBLY heavy album. "To the Lions" is probably one of the heaviest songs I've ever heard.

I didn't ignore any arguments being made. I simply stated my opinion and provided support that chaos does not always equal heavy to me because production overall plays a large role in what I think is heavy. I also don't see how anyone proved any of my points wrong.

But if you figure that "chug chug chug = heavy" then this is a lost cause.

More or less. Most bands that go chug chug chug are those that have that full, juicy production I'm talking about. But I'm not putting said bands on a higher pedestal just because they are 'heavy'. It's not like you guys should act like I'm insulting your favorite band/s because I don't call them heavy haha, it's just how the music makes me feel. Most Converge does not feel heavy to me.

When the same techniques are used to make a Lady Gaga (who's great btw, y'all can suck it) album as are used to make an Emmure one, I start to lose interest.

I love Lady Gaga.

No, I get it. Heavy doesn't equate to definitive good or definitive bad, I just refuse to think there is anything heavy about producing a metal album in the same way you would a Katy Perry one.

I don't think really think of any genre of music in the same exact terms as another genre. I don't really know how to explain it... It something along the lines of, Katy Perry doesn't make feel like I want to go crazy and break shit in my room, because the style of music is different enough to make me think in a another way, even if the production or whatnot is similar to that in a different style.

It's like how if you think of a color, you have different feelings or moods associated with each one; it's more or less the same thing to me with music. Not to mention sometimes I find it fun try to match how my music makes me feel with certain colors, but... yeah.

I'm still not quite sure if I answered your question/statement.

You missed the point. All I said/meant was that although you find that those production techniques make something heavier, I always just think of it as "this could be used to make a pop record."

Most Converge does not feel heavy to me.

then your feelings are broken.

Aaah. I think I get it now. I don't think of it that way myself, but I can kind of see what you're getting at.

Sorry for getting so complicated about things haha. Got caught up in my own thought. Making a fool of myself, again.

Maybe. But subjectivity is a nice thing, isn't it?

When you go to a Converge show and the bass hits you in chest then its no longer subjective. It's just ****ing heavy.

August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Architects, I Killed The Prom Queen and Born of Osiris are heavy for metalcore / w.e .

Although I wouldn't consider all of those "heavier" metalcore bands, a good bit of them are pretty good. <3 The Acacia Strain and La Dispute.
