I love finding out about and listening to new underground hardcore bands! I'm sure you guys do too. So what are your guys' favorite underground Harcore/Metalcore bands?
Can be local bands too as long as there are recordings.

LOL BMTH, ****ing hilarious stuff, ****ing hilarious.
Forget metalcore, move on, it's saturated and dying. Like a fat guy floating in a river, breathing his last breaths.
Vildhjarta are a good band who you might like though, not metalcore, but I don't see why you'd dislike them.

Meh, most hardcore is 'underground' to the people who don't listen to it, but other than that pretty much nothing is.

saxaxe
09-25-2010, 03:09 PM
Yeah I really hate the label "underground." It implies some sort of solid, definable barrier that just doesn't exist. Sure there are more popular bands and there are less popular bands, but to say that there's a definite line you can draw between underground and "mainstream" is just dumb.

09-25-2010, 03:10 PM

I think it comes to what demographics you are a part of.

IF you listen to the radio. Then pop rock is "underground".

IF you listen to pop rock. Then heavy rock (ie. Disturbed) is "underground."

IF you listen to heavy rock. Then "metal" (Metallica, Lamb of God) is underground. Same goes for any of the really popular core genres. (Anything with screaming) These are usually the people who think they know what "good music" is.

IF you listen to the aforementioned then "underground" is probably Hardcore.

I don't think it goes any more underground then that. :O

EDIT: Oh sorry, Converge is more underground than hardcore obvi.

JxD
09-25-2010, 03:33 PM
I think that there might actually be something of a definable barrier when it comes to popular music versus "underground" music that manifests itself in accessibility. I had to be slowly eased into the music I like now in a process that started when I was about 14. I couldn't have simply come across skram tunes or power-violence and just had it click in my head as something I enjoy. I built up to the point where I am now by going through thousands of bands. Someone who listens to radio rock isn't going to be able to comprehend heavy, fast, or dissonant music in the same way as another person who is intimately familiar with them.

And the Nobel prize for the most asinine theory of the year goes to...

lookpizza
09-25-2010, 03:44 PM
I think with the advent of the internet underground bands basically stopped existing. I'd peg underground as a band that unless you happen to go to one of their shows (that isnt advertised) then you wouldn't hear of them. That just doesn't happen anymore. Now I can listen to a skramz band from Russia that has a total of less than 100 fans easily from my own home in California.

UntoExistence
09-25-2010, 03:47 PM
unless there are bands that don't use the internet, that nobody likes, so their music wouldn't get posted on some obscure blog for the world to hear.

Yes I suppose a band that doesn't promote themself at all and that sucks so much that no one else in the world wants to promote them either could be underground. I really don't care to hear that band though.

But I just think your theory is absurd.

Well its not if I'm actually serious about it.

If I was serious about it, then it would sound like his theory. Meaning when I was a kid just getting into music, I liked crap like Maroon 5 and thought bands like Disturbed were super heavy.

Then I got into pop-punk, then alternative, then post-hardcore, then metalcore (which I still love, hate on haters), and then all this tech death stuff that I listen to know. Also, somewhere along the line I got to the point where I didn't mind screaming or growling vocals.

If I put on two seconds of my favorite song by PIE when I was 12 I wouldn't have even been able to listen to it for 5 seconds.

lookpizza
09-25-2010, 05:54 PM
When I was 12 I listened to Glassjaw and Thrice. Then I had an awkward bad metalcore phase. Now I listen to Glassjaw and La Dispute
