I'm in a band called Midnight Sunday, but it gets shortened to Midnight, and if anything ever happens record wise, it would probably be Midnight on the cover....... Unless:
Is there already a relatively successful band called Midnight?

And, guy above me, that is a pretty cool album name.

The Fixed
The Topic
The Click
The Explosion
The Cadillacs (London Calling-influenced)

Brand New Cadillac wouldn't be my first choise of song to name my band after. I'd go for like, Trains In Vain or something.

How about 'Highway 61' for a three-piece blues/rock/folk/reggae crossover group?

I kinda like it, and it does seem to work slightly what with the legend of the crossroads and whatnot, but then again I wouldn't want my band to be shunted to the same kind of expectancy of Blink 182 and Sum 41 and other bands with numbers like that.

So, yeah thoughts?

I found a site for making band names that you can add to your list on the first post.
Clicky. (http://www.quizmeme.com/bandname/takequiz.php)

Just as a joke, we named our not-yet-formed, drummer-less, vox-less, bass-less, 2-guitar band Oggie and the Pancakes.

It's a probably a long story, and I would tell it to you if I remembered it, but I know the 'Oggie' part comes from the nickname of the other guitar, the guy who first decided, "Let's get our talent-less group of strings players together and make a band!"

Now i found two names i really like for a band, one my brother turned me on to when i was visiting him this last week, the other i just thought up. and the third and fourth ones are the ones my (maybe...) future band mates want and i think they suck

POE- My brother thought of this one, and i thought it would be kewl since Edgar Alan Poe is basically the granddaddy of Horror. I love his wrtings too. I've also toyed with the idea of adding periods in front of the letters so it would be...

P.O.E.

MAN-SON- Yes i got partially from Marilyn Manson. But it's actually more of a Charlie manson thing. It's interestin that Manson has two words in it MAN and SON. Charlie would not have been such a big thing had the media not made such a big thing of it so theoretically, you could say that MAN (or Society) made CM what he is. So really you could say that he is MAN's SON. And really everyone is made by what society and the ppl around them make them. That's kind of the theory behind it. Kinda deep i know, lol.

and the interesting creation my drummer and bassist like... they are brothers-

THREE FLAMES FROM HELL or THUNDER FROM HELL - I think they just wanted to make a scary name or a mean sounding name. They had this big story that we needed a name that when we pulled up to the Battle of the Bands that we would scare them. i think they are too long. maybe the second one would be a good song or album name. i woulndn't even mind HELLTHUNDER.

The band I play in currently is called TV Party after the Black Flag song! And the fact that too many local bands try to take themselfs too seriously with really serious emo-ish names such as:

Hopes Shattered
Pretentious Thoughts
By Any Means

Each of those bands are just trying to make themselfs seem more deep than the last one, its a sad sad scene, so we thought we'd have a fun name after a band were inspired by and as a sort of protest to all those sad bands.

wich band name is better for pop/punk band Bang up job,The gaper delay or pube brigade

Circus
08-24-2006, 09:58 AM
Descendent, I think Bang Up Job is the best out of those but some people will likely disagree :P

My band's verging between hard rock and hardcore (maybe I've screwed up my genre definitions, so I'd also describe it as between Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium), I've got a few names - what do you think?

Phoenix
Chaos Theory
Phoenix Theory (Yes, that is a conscious combination of the two :p:)
Clocks For Children
The Band Geek Mafia
Dead Angels (the best song I've written for this group [so far] is called 'The Anthem For Dead Angels' - I thought of it as a band name after writing the song)
The Exorcist Experiment
Jack Of Hearts (my name's also Jack, so that might look like an ego-trip... even though it's not)

If anyone likes whichever one of those we don't choose, feel free to use it - just let me know first.

Input appreciated :)

P.O.E.

I really like that, but if you were going to do it with the full stops (That's British English for 'period' when used in that sense :p: ) you should come up with something for it to stand for. Like...

Point Of Evacuation. Or something.

Still having the Edgar Allen Poe (fantastic writer) reference of course, but if you turn it into an acronym it really could do with standing for something as well.

Here's all the P.O.E. acronyms I can think of...

Planes Over England
Project: Other Everything
Propaganda Operated Election
People's Occult Elite
Pirates Of Elysium
Paranoid Omega Ensemble
Padlock Orbit Engagement
Political Oppression Engine
Parliamentary Office Exodus
Park Over Encampment
Power Over Enemy
Paralyse Order Energise
Paraffin Ordained Enflamed
I can't believe I didn't think of this one sooner... Piece Of Evidence

This list will get longer. I'm enjoying writing it far too much.

ok, my band is having a problem with our name

our name for a while has been The Rukkus (pronounced raucous...if thats how you spell it)

and we want to change it

we're a three person band

maybe four

Circus
08-25-2006, 01:56 PM
Well, having your band being called 'The Rukkus' but pronouncing it 'raucous' seems silly to me, considering that Rukkus looks more like 'ruckus.' I guess you could have had 'The Rorkus' but it makes no difference seeing as you're changing.

What do you play?

samlynch
08-28-2006, 09:17 AM

we're kinda thinking Dark Matter, but does anyone think its abit dark for the kinda music we play?

ShiftyNermal
08-28-2006, 04:50 PM
Hey, what's everyones thoughts on calling my new punk rock/indie band "Scarlet Fever". Like or not?

Circus
08-28-2006, 05:40 PM
ShiftyNermal: Scarlet Fever sounds cool to me, seems to hit the vibe for the style you're playing.

samlynch: Dark Matter is a bit dark (funny, that), but then again, so's The Darkness - but because of the band it's now associated with their music rather than much heavier stuff, which might be what people would have imagined their music would be like on only hearing their name. Most indie names would be quite a way away from 'Dark Matter,' which could be a good thing. It depends how you'll take to people reacting to you differently because they're shocked - as your name implies you're different to how you are.

Just a point: it'd be nice if other people here would pass comment on other guys' names, rather than just coming and saying 'what do you think of this?' and then never coming back...

WOODnotes
08-29-2006, 08:23 PM
dark matter and scarlet fever are both pretty cool. (for circus)

Now, to the point. The WOODnotes is my and my associates acoustic duo where we will play softer cafe style stuff and a lot of originals.

Our full band with both of us on guitar, a drummer, bass, and keyboard doesn't have a finalized name but our top choices are:

Food For Thought, Ghandi, or anything else you want to suggest.

We play all covers so far and do mostly classic rock but a few new things and some Johnny Cash.

I'm currently forming a thrash metal band, but I can't figure out a name.

The rythm guitarist thought of these:

Death's Altar
Blood Altar
Dark Pillar
Eternity's End
Blind Sanity
Blind Leader
Fornica
Friendly Dagger
No-Name Nuce (not sure on his spelling, a rope with a hoop in it)
Vipera
Viperine

A lot of those sound death-metalish

My bassist is hell-bent for our name to be Metal Jesus.....

I'm currently looking in the dictionary for some.

-Pop punk (Blink182 like)

Unconditional Surrender is pretty good, makes me think more Hardcore than pop punk/emo though.

Battle Axe is already a hundred bands.

Symmetry, it's pretty good, a bit cliche, but whatever.

And, what does everyone think of "Necrostroodel" as a band name? We're an extreme metal band, playing a sort of blend of Metallica, Pantera, Strapping Young Lad, Children Of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Bathory, Emperor, Gorgoroth, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Nevermore, System Of A Down (Not metal I know), Behemoth, Erzebet, Ipecac Lollipops, Ensiferum, Exodus, Megadeth, Necrophagist, Arch Enemy, and just about every other metal band under the fucking sun. Most of our stuff is serious, but we do some joke songs, sort of like Strapping Young Lad. So yeah, your thoughts?

grunge(heavy) - Would make everyone thinnk you're a grunge band. Also, your band being the same name as a genre doesn't sound good, I think.

lunar halo (the light that shines around the moon during a lunar eclipse) - Pretty good, sounds like a power metal band.

plethera oblivion (plenty of noting)-It's alright aswell.

aegri somnia (latin:a sick mans dreams) - Probably the best one here.

grunch (its like grunge but not) - Makes me think of The Grinch, who stole Christmas.

We've thought of a few so far.. but we're still unsure on which to pick..Tell us which one's are good and if none then help us find one?

Colorization - I had The White Stripes, then Deep Purple, then Green Day appear on my playlist..I thought of colors..I thought of..COLORIZATION (dun dun dun!)

The Guilty - personally it sounds kinda emo and basic to me but anyone else think dif?

The Generals - *shrugs*

Innocent Of Regret - meep?

Why - why not??

The Coffins - thought of this like two years ago and it just clung to me..probably been used already I wager

ja - No one else called ja in the world hmm?

Middle French, from Medieval Latin decadentia, from Late Latin decadent-, decadens, present participle of decadere

Decadentia or Decadere? Neither have been taken, according to Purevolume.com that is.. Thanks for your help..

sanctimonious • \sank-tuh-MOE-nee-us\ • adjective

-The Paperback Writers
-The Quakenbakers
-The Billy Shears
-Double Spaced
-The Birds of Prey
-The Minton Men

-The Crafted
-The Arts and Crafts
-Tyranosauros

-Toe Jam (Get it?) - no, I don't.
-Curious Euphoria - Doesn't make sense. Long words for the sake of it tbh.
-The Paperback Writers - Quoting the Beatles doesn't make you cool.
-The Quakenbakers - What does it mean? The sounds kinda good in a jokey way
-The Billy Shears - Who now?
-Double Spaced - Nah.
-The Birds of Prey - Maybe, if you dropped the "the"
-The Minton Men - Very twee
-The Great Broderbund - Could work for a comedy band
-The Icemen - Nah.
-The l33t h4x0r5 - Oh come on. No way.
-Ded Husbands - You mean dead? If so might be okay.
-Ninja VS. Pirates - No.
-The Crafted - Best so far, not bad.
-The Arts and Crafts - No.
-Tyranosauros - T. Rex anyone?
-Hotwheels - Gods no.
-Dharma - What now?
-The Path - Ooh, not bad, would work for a prog/epic band.
-Constantine - Sounds cool, but everyone will just think of the film
-Plaigarism - it's Plagiarism, and no.
-5 Seconds Left In Overtime (replace 5 with number of members in band) - No

So yeah, The Path and The Crafted are my favourites from that lot.

Thanks for the feedback but we thought of a new name we really like -Slightly Twisted- but we're also thinking of Birds of Prey and Crafted (possibly with a the but maybe without). Dropping the from Birds of Prey was a pretty good idea, thanks.

Billy Shears is another beatle refrence.

Slightly Twisted ...it's cool, but idk, it seems like the kind of cool that's easy to come up with (look at how many band names starting "Slightly" there are on PureVolume). Even if no-one has that exact name, I'm not sure how much a name like that would stand out on a bill.

You probably already know this but there's already one "Birds of Prey" and one "Crafted" on PureVolume ...it might be worth checking out whether either of those bands look like they're going anywhere.

Ok, comments please.

My band did some brainstormin for names. We've finished everything except for the name (as in, we even already have like a 10 song repertoire). We're a band that plays Prog, Epic/Power Metal, Hardcore, Metalcore and Jazz (yes, we do. Seriously).

Some names we have so far:

Dawning
Stypes
Blue Note
Dark Symphony (or is this cheesy?)
Pandemonium
Timeline
Blacktop
Silverline

any suggestions would be appreciated!

I seriously need a name for a metal band. all those stupid generators get me are retarded names. currently, we're Dead Lightning, but i need something more... well, just plain awesome. I was thinking of something like Empty Threat or Killing Joke, but I think Killing Joke is already taken...

ok so...
1. no remorse
2. Broken religion
3. Hurricane culture
4. genesis 4.0
5. cutthroat sweethearts.

Dawning -nope
Stypes -nah
Blue Note -This is my favorite
Dark Symphony (or is this cheesy?)-its good but might need a better adjective than Dark
Pandemonium -this and the next three I don't like either
Timeline
Blacktop
Silverline

I'm usually not to much of a fan of one word band titles. There are definetly some good ones, but usually they just sound... like wannabe metal.

Almost Silence

I don't like it. Silence is a good word though. Try to make something else out of it.

I think Empty Threat sounds really good. A lot a of t sound. I'd go with that one.

1. no remorse -This one is bueno.
2. Broken religion -I'd try to stay away from any religion names.
3. Hurricane culture -Could work...
4. genesis 4.0 -Anything with point 0 is stupid in my opinion.
5. cutthroat sweethearts. -sounds emo or pop punk if thats what you are then go with it. Anything else, stay away!

I think if your emo/poppy punk Cutthroat Sweethearts would work great. But I'm guessing you aren't so use Hurricane Culture or no Remorse.

exception to the rule -its okay. not that good though
easy ride -I like it
vision of light -nope

Try to think of some more though.

I was just brainstorming a few with a friend;

Busticketed
Powergen Callback
Nineteen Sofas
Bad Call
Fallen Can-Can
Bated Breath
Tremendous Faces
Encouraging Itches
Trademark Nuisance
Pauline's Remorse
Scrupilous Rampage

They're all pretty terrible but a few words there sound pretty good if they were in a different combination. I'm not recommending any of the above (personally) but I'm just showing how easy it is to 'brainstorm' and put two random words together.

Years ago some mates were in a band and they kept snapping their strings. They used to reherse in a classroom, surrounded by books. So they called themselves String Fiction, which I thought sounded quite good.

Ask yourself - if you read your band name in a magazine without hearing anything by the band, what would you instantly think? Would you be interested to hear/find out more about them?

speedygonzales
12-02-2006, 02:41 AM
Silly band names instantly turn me off. If I see one with hearing the music it doesn't encourage me to go look for one. However, String Fiction really rolls of the tongue.

There's a lot in a name. When reading magazines or whatever, if a band name is mentioned and it sounds daft, I won't pursue an interest in them, regardless of what the magazine says. I know I shouldn't, but a band name says a lot. It's more than just a 'name', it's a signal of intent, it speaks volumes about the band.

It depends on whether or not anyone holds the trademark to those names anymore. You probably won't have any trouble but its best to consult someone who really knows what their talking about.

Deluster
12-19-2006, 05:04 PM
Explosivo is Tenacious D.

I have a few band names I have been mulling over in my mind and this is just what I needed to find to help narrow it down.

First and my Favorite, Product Of Sin.

There is a good name for a Metal band, Which Is what I like to play, so that is good.
Also, It is a multiple understanding name, First, we are the product of sin, Adam and Eve's Sexual escapades, Second, we are forged from all that is bad in the world. I know, Cliche' But the name really sounds good.

Second, Struggle For Sanity. I like this one as well, As I have been diagnosed being paranoid, Boarderline Personality Dissorder, Bi-polar and Social Anxiety (Buckethead anyone?)

Another I think is more along the lines of a Song name, But could work for an Emo/Punk band, And If it is used, Please give me credit.

Testemony of the Cyonide Cyringe.

it may be misspelled, But hey, You get the idea.

Alright well I'm having an argument with a friend, we can't figure out what to call the band.

Just so you know, the first name is a song and the second is the name of an album

D.R.E.A.M. (Drugs Rule Everything Around Me)
VS
Siamese Dream

We're basically an alternative band with heavy influences.

Tortoise unless you're kinda alt.rock, in which case Self Righteous Child is good. It sounds good acronymed too, I can see people talking about SRC Concerts, though obviously there's a strong SRV association there.

me and my friend were talking about band names last night

if you wanna be emo you do a statement like panic! at the disco

if you wanna be serious you do an action like rescue the astronauts

if you wanna be metal you need something mythacil like windfall or mastema

and if you wanna be indie just use "the -put whatever you want here-"
