Can anyone help me think of a band name?

My band is gonna be pop/alternative/emo and my last band's name was "A Blue Sky Tragedy".

We really really liked that name, and we're looking for something similar to it. If anyone can help me out, I'd really really appreciate it.

Thanks

I like Prophetic West for its epic sound, but it does have an ever so slightly racist sounding overtone, maybe Prophetic (something else) would be good?

:(

Then I don't know what to doooooooo. But we ended up choosing Dirt of the Iron. SORRY, but the guitarist's a bitch, he didn't like anything else :(

well I'm rather annoyed with my bandname. We are T3H GEEX and every member opf the band hates it we play thrash/power metal with some metalcore(because the riffs are easy to write) w/ gruff but sung vocals thrown in. We are going to release a demo before the end of summer and T3h GEEX is uber lame so we are thinking of changing it to "Crimson Phantom" or "Stygian" but I think "Stygian" is taken.....

the forgotten.... really... way to non-creative. im sure it took you no time in thinking of that one but if you insist on using forgotten as your main use something else with it
ex. forgotten prophecies or lost but not forgotten, or a walk into the forgotten. just use something a little more powerfull.

ahhh i know this was like 10 pages ago...
but thats the last thing he needs. those kind of "powerfull" names are so cheesy.

anyway!

any ideas for a dark screamo, early mcr type band?

trying to think of a metalcore/deathmetal band name. influences like the black dahlia murder, job for a cowboy, all shall perish, etc. right now our name we tell people we go by is 'the seventh seal' but ithink it sounds too much like the hardcore band seventh star. what do you guys think

I'm guessing that you took purple haze and made it blue then added cream at the end. ;)

IMO it's too much like cream and as soon as you said hendrix was an influence I figured out the rest of it. Take out the cream and just go with blue halzel.
7/10

How about for my band name "The New Crawling Kings"
Think Cream with SRV on guitar instead of Clapton.

The New Crawling Kings is a pretty good name, especially for a bluesy lead guitar sound. However, won't people be reminded of Albert, Freddie and BB King?

Hi. I'm in two bands. One is pretty much a no genre band... we have punk lyrics, but the music is like classic rock... it's kinda weird.

And the other is more of a straight-forward punk band.

The guys in the first band want our name to be Stiffy which I think sounds really homosexual. Any other suggestions?

And the punk band doesn't have a name, and they're putting me in charge of a name, cuz the other two guys can't think of anything... So far I have: The Insubordinates, Concussion, One To Nothing, or What's Yours Is Mine.

Are any of those worth keeping?

Page&HammettFan

I like "The Insubordinates." It just rolls off of my tongure, but that's just me. All of those are cool, though. Concussion is the only one that I wouldn't go with.

I've personally avoid "Stiffy," though... That does sound a bit homosexual.

It sounds like your leaning more towards punk right now, so i'd say the best ones would be:
Switch Rail

My problem: For a metal band what sounds better?

Myriad (Meer Ee Add it means infinite, endless or innumerable)
or
Martalitas (its latin for death).

TheUnholy
08-24-2007, 06:52 PM
Myriad is better... Latin for "death"'s a bit of a cheesy idea to be honest, and there's already a "Mortis" and a "Death" out there.

Myriad is half decent. On the other hand, it does mean "lots of" (in colloquial usage), so it may leave people asking "Myriad whats?"

Hey who thinks this band name sucks, it's what the other guitar player and bassist want for our band. C and E Shredding. It sounds like a friggin' corporation to me. I kind of like Poe or Man-Son, cuz edgar allen poe kicks a$$ and the second name is cool cuz it's the name of a serial killer and it is two words put together. so it's like Son of Man or something like that, but you have the slash to kind of differentiate the words.

Beyond Reason - Is okay
The Tipped Scales - No!

Lost Threshold - Quite like it
Losing Reason - Is okay.

To guy above: "Estoric" is a nice find, what a lovely word. I'd wonder if "Estoric" on its own mightn't make an even better name. I'd definitely prefer "Estoric Wisdom" to "Estorical Wisdom" though.

So? Most names are, and that one's 'taken' by a band with under 3000 views. My solo stuff isn't up to much, and yet I've had more views than that.

I'd give your band a similar name - Hired Guns. :) Still has all the vitriolic assumptions that the term bullets gives you, but it doesn't connect you with the whole teen-emo scene, if you're wanting to avoid that. (I gave you my Bullets, BfmV, etc) Not to mention it's a bit of a used term, which is good. It gives your band a bit of a hook, and even some advertising.

A good plan for guerilla advertising... well, if someone heard your music once, and you were called argleflergargle, they're not exactly gonna stumble across your name. Whereas, every time they hear the term Hired Guns in some cheesy western, they'll think of your band. Just a thought...

How about this for a name? Cookie Crushers.

Explain: We were stuck in this tiny ass practice room the other day, and I thought, "Why not move the piano (long story) when we leave so we have a bit more room the next time?" Needless to say, it wasn't that easy. It took all four of us to move it, because there was a hole in the floor where the piano had been for so damn long. And as we finally moved the bastard, our drummer, Lucas (Cookie) got sandwiched between the wall and the piano.

Kind of a funny incident, but I don't think it fits a Thrash/Classic Rock band. Thoughts?

Suicide Lovers most of the rest of them are kinda awkward to say. and highschool rejects sounds a little too much like all american rejects. and i don't think you would like people associating you with them.

Hey I just need opinions for a band name...
My best mate and I have started a two piece band - he's on drums, I'm on guitar and vocals.
We're looking mainly at soft-ish rock/rock/punk

Our favourite name so far is Wheels in Motion.

If you saw the name "Wheels in Motion" in the rock section of your local record store, would you ignore it or take a look?

So yeah.. pretty much, is it a good, mediocre or terrible name?

No, were not going for anything near AAR really.

I like New Age Death Craze. The internal rhyme is catchy.

thanks, I liked this one the best of all of them.

Unknown Resurrection seems like a pretty good name. It's easy to remember, catchy but still has the death theme about it.

Thanks!

I'm in a pop/punk band and we're called The Fonnys ( weird I know)!
Any opinions would be nice, as we've only just got started and need some opinions from people who don't know us so won't spare our feelings :p:

Thanks!

The Fonnys sounds like a 70's rock band like The Beatles or The Who.
i dont think thats such a good name for a punk band.
but thats just a personal opinion.

btw.
thanks for your opinion for my band name.

I'd definately say Idle Hands... even though you probably ripped it off the film. Classic film mind you. I agree with Metal Army... the others are too cliche.

Do any of them have meaning to you, or are they just random?

Metal army is the most cliche thing Ive ever heard
(metal church...already a name..)

None of them really spring music like muse/radiohead into mind. all seem a bit too long for that kinda band if yoyu know what i mean. They're all kinda awkward to say but I'd say microphone not responding and red lion banner are the best out of those.

^I don't know about that cause i don't listen to them but your original name doesn't sound too bad. My band's name was Bite the Bullet but i found one or two others with that name so we're gonna change it. any ideas, we play stuff anywhere from old school metal to the used type stuff. mostly right now we do avenged sevenfold and the used covers until we get some songs written and stuff.

troykeenan
11-01-2007, 12:24 PM
what about avenged eightfold? lol

bite the bullet. you should use it anyway. it doesnt matter if there's another band with the same name unless they're a well known band.

My hard rock/metal band (that also plays a lot of weird progressive and funky stuff) is called Iron Wolf, we made a myspace under that name and everything, but we kinda think it's too cheesy now. Do you agree? What do you guys think of:

Circle Squared
Eye in the Sky
Heavy Water
Circle the Sky

Can someone help me with a band name? My band plays a lot of stuff, just rock in general. (No screamo or metal) The stuff we write is pretty much generic vocals, and the guitar is heavily inspired on Tom Morello's and Slash's riffs and solos. We want a name that's "The" something, anyone wanna help out?

Lashire

it's pronounced (La-shear-ray)

It's a semi-greek word that means "to sing"

But we need a better name, really. Our old drummer called us "Reanimators". Any ideas please? Tyvm.

We're called FreeFall at the moment - which we like and we've gotten pretty well known under. The only thing is there are tons of FreeFall's and it's not the best band name.

Bebo (freefallband.bebo.com)
MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/bandfreefall)

What are your suggestions?

So far, the only name pictched to us has been; Pioneers of the Penguins (we were wearing suits that gig).

My band was to be called W.H.O.R.E.(hence my name) but now I'm not sure if we still will go..( I had to move away, but I know I'll move back eventually).
We were gonna have what it stands for change around, but it mostly was to be:
"We Hate Other Recording Enterprises" we were like a silly style but kinda heavy still,
think like a heavier MSI with more bass and solos (we had two guitarists, both able to play lead so we swapped around) and less rap and programming (but still some)... Our lyrics were usually stupid, but some not bad...
some other acronyms were to be:
"We Help Obliterate Rational Ethics"
"We Hate Obsolete Religious Evil"
what cha think?

Hey guys, right now the name of my pop-punk/emo band is Roadside Romance. We really want to change it, we have it down to

- Five Minute Mile
- The Turning Point
- Against the Current

opinions?

Vulco_Vesper

The Practice Heroes is really good.

Okay, so I play in a metalcore band similar to Becoming the Archetype and Darkest Hour. Though there's moments of Cult of Luna in it. We are currently called All the Living but everybody in the band is sick of it. I came up with a better name, The Death Sedative, but our guitarist, drummer, and keyboardist all didn't go for it. I'm just sick of trying to come up with anything. What do you think of Riding for a Fall? or do you have any other suggestions?

CrashedTheShow3
11-26-2007, 09:46 PM
Well really, for a metal band, the word "the" doesn't cut it for me. Everything else is good though. Try something along the lines of A Death Sedative, instead of The Death Sedative

Vulco_Vesper
11-26-2007, 11:26 PM
Well, they mostly had a problem with the word death. They were scared it would sound too generic or ametuer-ish. I tried to explain it to them, but nope. So that name is pretty much out. Frankly it's hard to get anybody to agree on any of the names. Our drummer is a big prog/power fan, so all his names don't work with me. and nobody else even tries to come up with anything. It's such a pain in the ass.

Well alot of bands get band names through song lyrics. Be it their own or other bands. Try that.
