With a third of the year passed, I think it would be good to hear some opinions on what everyone's favourite albums are so far, from 2011.

Here's my current top ten, with my favourites towards the bottom.

The Dodos - No Color
Grails - Deep Politics
Panda Bear - Tomboy
Holy Ghost! - Holy Ghost!
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring for My Halo
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Belong
Sun Devoured Earth - Untitled
Battles - Gloss Drop
Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip
Yuck - Yuck

It's already been a wonderful year, and I've found ~45 albums that I've really enjoyed so far, which is just under the whole output of last year! What about yourself?

I literally don't know who any of those bands are.

Well list your own favourites, that's the point :p:

And, really? The Pains of Being Pure at heart are pretty well known, Battles have been on an advert, albeit a while ago, and Yuck are the current NME buzz band!

edit: Panda Bear is Noah Lennox of Animal Collective, also. Really big following.

edit 2:

I agree on the Pains!
You'd probably enjoy Ringo Deathstarr and Yuck, if you haven't already heard them.

Well, I'm not really into Indie Rock-type bands, so I guess that explains my first post. I haven't had a whole lot of albums out yet this year from my favorite bands...

BTBAM-The Paralax: Hypersleep Dialouges

That's the only album I've really loved this year. Airborne Toxic Event's new album comes out next week though and I'm expecting it to be great :]

The Foo Fighters and Panic at the Disco both had pretty solid albums

I'm expecting Death Cab for Cutie's album to have some significance.

Also, agreed on the Battles and Ringo Deathstarr albums.

Yuck - S/T
2562 - Fever
The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
The Psychic Paramount - II

I haven't listened to much yet, I've listened to about 8 albums so far this year and those are the only ones I liked. This year kind of sucks so far, but a lot of good stuff is coming out later in the year (I hope). I have a list of about 50 albums or so that I need to check out though so far.
There are a couple albums that are out that I haven't listened to but I like the band so maybe it'll make me think better of this year.

Er just off the top of my head I can only think of two albums from this year I've really gotten into

Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1
Wolf & Lamb vs Soul Clap

The only album so far this year I've liked is Wasting Light, even that was a bit disappointing. Still solid though.

Hoping Soundgarden delivers.

can't you wait untill th end of the year to decide?
I'm not deciding, just recommending things to others that I've liked so far and hoping for something I'll like in return. If I didn't discuss it until December I'd have no time to listen to everything that other people liked.

I hated that, couldn't get into it at all! The Antlers' Burst Apart is somewhere in my top ten now, since the studio version is streaming on npr now.

Lemuria - Pebble
The Braces - First World Problems
Joie de Vivre & Sleep Bellumn Sonno - Split
P.S. Eliot - Sadie
Saturday Night Karaoke - Duh!
Wagers - New Guilt
Make it Plain - We Live Together

A lot of those are just EPs or splits or whatever, but still.

The Strokes, Screeching Weasel, and Radiohead all came out with rather meh albums.

I still haven't even bothered listening to EitS's or This Will Destroy You's new albums yet. I forgot to say that Spraynyard's Funtitled was pretty good. For a Latterman copy, anyways.

The only new album I've bought this year is King of Limbs. I have listened to the new Lupe Fiasco (some of it's good, most of it dissapointing) and the new Explosions in The Sky.

So I guess those three.

Edit: I've listened to more, but those three are the only albums I care about so far.

BTBAM-The Paralax: Hypersleep Dialouges
Protest the Hero-Scurrilous
The Human Abstract-Digital Veil
Rise Against-Endgame

YES to Protest and The Human Abstract. Both spectacular albums.
Just saw PTH on the first and am gonna be seeing THA very soon.

My 2011 album picks so far would be:
The Dead Of Night - Ekotren
One - Tessaract
Digital Veil - The Human Abstract
Surtur Rising - Amon Amarth
The Unseen Empire - Scar Symmetry

Absolutely loved:

The Discovery - Born of Osiris
Scurrilous - Protest the Hero
Screaming Bloody Murder - Sum 41
Kill The Crown - Salt the Wound
One - Tesseract

These ones we're pretty good:

The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues - Between the Buried and Me
Digital Veil - The Human Abstract

These were for the most part my least favourite

Surtur Rising - Amon Amarth
Asylon - Neuraxis
Leveling The Plane of Existence - Abysmal Dawn

And this one just sucked so hard. Harder than a black hole.

Relentless, Reckless Forever - Children of Bodom

New Suicide Silence, however, will crush your hopes and dreams.. in a good way.

Well, no, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Unfortunatly, not in this case. Liturgy are so bad as to render the entire concept of opinion completely meaningless, as any conclusion reached concerning the album's quality which isn't "shite" is actually an indicator of mental illness.

Well after that it all seems forced and inane, to me at least. It's like they're trying way too hard. But I don't like 99% of the black metal i've heard anyways so it's not much of a loss for me.

Fair enough, it's obviously not for everybody. I don't listen to much metal either.

I am very serious. They are terrible.
Well then, I guess you just need to learn to respect opinions.

As of right now, you have no reasoning to prove why they are terrible. You just keep saying they are.
I know you're arguing the same case as I am here, but it's impossible to prove something as subjective as an opinion.

I am respecting your opinion, I'm just saying that you have no reasons yet to dismiss them as just bad. I have reasons as to why I think they are good.

1. The tremelo picking is executed well.
2. I enjoy the screams.
3. The blast beats, and drums in general are excellent.
4. The music overall comes together well, and while it may not be what black metal elitists find to be worthy of the title, there are plenty of people that enjoy the music for what it is, not what it isn't.

You should probably stop acting like a major judgemental prick. I wasn't trying to persuade you as to why you should also think Liturgy are good, I was just providing reasons as to why I think they're good.
