I'm looking for some psych rock bands similar to MGMT's more Psychedelic music. Stuff like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ttsuv8HS-U
or these

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u18LmYy8JW0

Not to sound like some hipster kid(because I'm not into this for the "cool" aspect), but although ANY bands would be extremely appreciated, I would love for some relatively unknown bands, because I already know TONS of neo-psych bands, but none really sound similar to these guys. Im not to into that whole synth pop indie post punk stuff.

Thanks in advance! :D

:haha @ the first video. That is the most hipster I've seen in one band, ever.

This is a good song. But it isn't really what you are looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZIGS90XXp4

Here's another band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y37uGOoOle8

Haha Yeah they are some hipster cats alright, but the outro to that song is absolutely perfect to my ears.

Dude, that first one reminds me alot of some older 60s pop, its pretty cool man.
That second one is the shit, never heard of them, but it pretty much owned me. Pretty amazing, thanks man.

If you wanna find really good psychadelic bands, you should look in the 60s and 70s.

On a similar topic, it seems like the word "hipster" is used either because the word "hippie" has too much of a positive connotation for people that use it as an insult, or it's considered "too old" for people that use it to label themselves

Ah yeah man, believe me, I have plentyyyyyy of music from the 60s and 70s anything from Stardust Cowboy to Beach Boys, Comus, King Crimson, Art Bears, Skip Spence, Can, Amon Duul 2. I have lots really from that time period, and its all really good, but I'm looking for something from these days. Something I can be a part of. Plus I really dont think bands from the past had MGMT's sound. Which isnt at all a bad thing, I just really could use some more bands of this style.

Haha yeah, I have lots of problems with the term hipster. Its just a new "Emo". I really think the whole "hipster" thing is some social meme. I havent met one "hipster" looking guy/girl who wasn't eager to share his/her art with others. I dont know where the whole pretentious hipster kid thing came from.

Yeah, I don't really care for the second one, but they are from pretty close to me so I thought 'what the hey'. First song kicks ass though.

I liked the second one...
The first one sure does, and I dont know why it reminds me of the Beatles(which to me is a good thing because they are my favorite.).....

You wanna look at 60s 70s west coast. Grace Slick and the great society, or jefferson airplane, westcoast pop art experimental band, 13th floor elevators. For more recent bands, take a look at Brian Jonestown Massacre, they are awesome, listen to their 90's stuff. Or the black angels.

XTC might be a good band to look into.

You can start with this record Tangerine Dream (1967) By Kaleidoscope (UK)
Similarity Rate 8 of 10.

To me MGMT is just a modern interpretation of late 60s Psychedelic movement by adding some computer sound manipulation to make it more current. More like a Revival to be fair.
