Not because they're necessarily sad, but because they have a truly heartfelt, passionate sound that you can just feel; songs that (figuratively, and maybe literally :p: ) scream and shout what they have to say and make you want to scream along with them; songs that keep thrilling your heart matter how many times you listen to them.

Here's some that I could come up with; some you may not agree with, some are obscure, but these are all my favorites (I'll probably keep updating this post with more that I can come up with):

"In the backseat" Arcade Fire
"Across the universe" The Beatles
"The Ocean (not the moon version)" The Bravery
"When your mind's made up" Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
"Use somebody" Kings of Leon
".3" Porcupine Tree
"Hallelujah" Jeff Buckley
"Dare you to move" Switchfoot
"Suburban War" Arcade Fire
"From yesterday" 30 Seconds to Mars
(I know a lot of these aren't really hardcore or anything :( )

I don't know, it's easier to come up with the feeling itself than it is to come up with the songs that induce it. Is that the case for you?

Btw not sure if this is the right forum, looked around and couldn't find anything that fit my question; so sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Listening to Traced in Air (The Whole Album) by Cynic, at like 3 am a few days ago made me get teary eyed. I can't really explain why, but it was actually really awesome feeling, like euphoric tears or something.

It doesn't have to emotional, sometimes music is just so good it gets to me.

Blackbird by Alter Bridge
Right Where It Belongs by Nine Inch Nails

They don't necessarily make me cry, but every time I listen to them, they do bring a heavy feeling to my heart.

Yeah! That's kinda the feeling I was going for, that whole "holy crap this music is f***ing amazing I could die!" kind of euphoria.

Sadly that album doesn't do that for me, too much dissonance...

The emotion poured into it is just wonderfully sad.

Well, considering you listen to Nickelback you're probably right.

I love nickelback, but this made me actually lol.

I never actually cried over a song, but once that make me really start thinking are things like:

"Every women has a name - alice Cooper"

"Cancer - MCR"

"A day in the life - The Beatles" (Not sure why really. Just does.)

Heheheh.

As of the topic, it doesn't really apply, but I do admit I listened to In Flames - Astronauts & Satellites for the first time in a long time, and it's probably my all time favorite In Flames track, and it hit pretty hard.

Ironically, though, in the lyrics say "be gentle to the tear in this eye".

2009 must have been a very wet year for you, huh? (inb4 vagina-related joke)

OT: Songs don't make me cry, but two songs off the top of my head that make me rather sad are:

Cripples Can't Shiver - Pianos Become The Teeth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj0P60fn9X4) (It's about the singer's father's multiple sclerosis, and the sound clip is from his mother talking about it. When the vocals come back in after the quote is the part which depresses me.)
Headstone - Defeater (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcUCVBkSXro) (It's the last track of a concept album, hence it's a lot more sad than it seems out of context)

Ride - In a Different Place (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADvP07t1mHo). Whenever I listen to it, I'm always like "brb bawlin my eyes out".

Last Kiss makes me bawl if whoever's doing it does it right acoustically(as in, no drums to make it sound like a '50s pop song even though that's what it originally was), and Changes by Black Sabbath, Thank You by Led Zeppelin, Wonderful Tonight by Clapton and Amanda by Boston get me.
