Sup guys, girls and everything in between. See: Dylan. :haha:
This isn't an off-topic chat thread, btw. This is for the regulars and Mods to discuss aspects of the forum, ways to improve it etc.
Right-o.
I have a few questions.
1. Would you prefer DoTW or DoTM?
2. Competitions: Monthly or Bi-weekly? Ideas for competitions?
3. Any ideas of advertising the forum to the rest of UG?
4. Any other ideas regarding the forum itself?
Cheers, Jay.

1. I have no idea what that means. :p:
2. Bi-weekly would be awesome, especially since I'm nearly at the end of semester for uni and I'll be looking for something to do. That said, at this stage, I don't know if any more than monthly competitions will work, since the userbase is still so small at this stage. Ideas for competitions? I'd like to see some competitions with themes that people wouldn't expect. For example, competitions where we do drum covers of hip-hop songs, stuff from musicals, TV themes, film scores, and anything else that's not some form of rock music. I think it encourages a bit more creativitiy. (Not saying that rock/metal drumming isn't creative, but this sort of thing will get people thinking outside the box).
3. Spam the UG team until they make some sort of announcement. :p: Seriously though, it couldn't hurt to contact whoever manages the front page articles and stuff again. Maybe contact the mods of some of the other forums and get them to put a sticky in their areas? The Pit is one obvious choice, but also maybe recordings, musician talk, etc.
4. Not right now. Actually, see if we can get the Admins to change the placement of the forum. We're at the bottom of the list, which means we're kind of hidden. Maybe they could put it at the top of the list for a few weeks, to get some traffic flowing. Then put it back in a permanent area (which, in my opinion, should be between Bass Guitar and GG&A).

1. DotM for DotW, hrm... DotM would be somewhat less chaotic and easily managed, DotW would give more people a chance to submit though, but would be somewhat less "significant" in my mind...
2. Bi-weekly would be way too crazy. Monthly for sure. Gives everyone ample time to sign up and prepare.
3. Try to set up a front page announcement? It's been two months since it started, after all :haha:
4. I got nothing.

I think it would be better to do it say, on the 1st and 15th of every month. A week is quite short and a month seems to long to me, so I think 2 weeks fits perfectly. I know you can't call it DoTETWINAM though :haha:
2. Competitions: Monthly or Bi-weekly? Ideas for competitions?
Monthly seems good for competitions. As for idea's, rewriting a pop/dancey songs drum tracks would be fun. Or maybe having a random genre with different an easy, medium and hard difficulty songs. Then people can enter whichever they can do but also branch out too a new genre and learn some more about it.
3. Any ideas of advertising the forum to the rest of UG?
A front page announcement would be good. I'm not really sure on this one.
4. Any other ideas regarding the forum itself?
All seems good to me, although I think we should get the FAQ thread finished :D And agree'd about moving the forum up the list.

Wouldn't bi-weekly mean every 2 weeks? That's a good middle point imo, since 1 week would be too chaotic and every 1 month few people would have the opportunity.

The report button is not to alert the mods of something like this. We check the forum regularly and can see what is going on. If you must let us know then please use PM's.
Drummer of the Week would probably not be feasible since the forum is still growing and gaining regular posters. Same applies for a biweekly Drummer of the Month. I say keep it monthly for now. As always, there is no shame in changing arrangement as things progress.
Advertising on a large scale usually means we need the agreement and power of the admins. I don't know whether it's worth it to go to that length. I think it's just a matter of reminding people, talking about it in your posts, and using signatures, etc. But don't use a massive 'FU' link. We can see that there is something in your sig without it being obnoxiously big.
One of the best ways to ignite a forum, in my opinion, is to start conversations with people. Not just to post endless threads one after another, regurgitating ideas from other forums, but to spark a detailed chat with everybody and anybody. Talk about stuff that really interests you and people should hopefully latch onto that.

Hrmmm... I could see that. It'd be better to call it like, DotM in two parts or something, though.
