Hi guys. What do you think about using pianos or synthesizers in bands playing hardcore? Is it good, or absolutely unnecesary? I think it ain't so popular, but it can be nice.

Depends on how they're used, but as a whole, I think they're pretty unnecessary to the genre.

So how should they be used? It's easy to use piano in metal, or rock genre like Guns'n'Roses, but such hard to make it in hardcore. I'm asking, 'cause I'm playin' keyboard and I wanna play hardcore genre, but I don't know how should I do it. Do you know any hardcore-band usin' keyboard?

What do you mean by hardcore? I'm gonna assume you mean aggressive metal genres, in which case, Soilwork put keyboards to amazing use.

Well, there is nothing stopping you from adding a keyboard to a song that hasn't any. Fill in the sound and make the song your own. By, these is one band that comes to mind: Bleeding through, although they usually play deathcore.

Soilwork is.. too metal. I'm talkin about genre like Rise Against's one. Is it possible to put keyboard to this kind of music good?
And sorry for my English, I hope you understand me :P

deathofagod
12-04-2011, 06:39 AM
Don't worry, although your English isn't perfect, it's still perfectly understandable, at least to me, I have a lot of foreign friends who speak English a LOT worse :P

If done right and used sparingly enough, I'm sure a keyboard could fit well, it depends on what the song calls for really. I could see keyboard working in "Prayer of the Refugee" for sure. Just think of it as a background instrument in the verses or something.

No they don't, COB use keyboards as if they're another guitar to wank off with.

Keyboards to not fit in hardcore, and when I saw hardcore, I mean hardcore. They work in more "atmospheric" offshoots of it like screamo, and some metalcore bands can pull them off (genghis tron).

This guy is talking about Rise Against. You can add keyboards into a band like that, because they're closer to mainstream rock, or pop punk or whatever, but I can't see keyboards fitting in real hardcore. Maybe it could work to give a real progressive, chill vibe to certain sections, but I don't think it's ever been done before. I think Touché Amoré uses Piano in a few song sections.

Also Jay, I feel as this is the appropriate time to tell you that every history class, when I'm on facebook and you're on chat, my friend will point to your picture and remind me that you look like our History prof. wouldnt write it off at all. Genghis Tron are my favourite band that do use them, adds another level that seperates them from alot of the other grindy kind of bands like that. but you've also got bands like Rolo Tomassi that use them alot, and that works really well for them. just dont form a crappy metalcore band and put a bit of really poor dubstep in the middle. *cough* Asking Alexandria *cough*

Gospel music uses a church organ, not keyboards. Don't you look rather silly, now?

I think this thread helps illustrate the problem of people attempting to fit their playing and music to a standard sound, instead of just trying to write good music and seeing how it comes out. My suggestion to the OP is to write good music. If you are influenced by hardcore bands, it will probably show up in the music somehow. Regardless, the point is you have to reprioritize.

I don't think he was talking about "fitting the music around [anything]". He was just asking what people thought of hardcore bands with keys, and unfortunately used the term "popular" (in any context) in his post.

Also;
Genghis Tron. Yes.

That is all.

He was clearly discussing playing hardcore music and wanting to find a way to place keyboards into it. Obviously, that wasn't clear in his first post but if you keep reading he explains his intentions. Am I missing something?

Really? You expected a screamo band with keys.. cause honestly, I doubt you know anything about music or even what screamo is for that matter. Based upon the one other post I've seen from you, you're probably dumb as **** and don't know anything about anything. In closing, I hope you get offended and try to say something back to me so I can make more fun of your dumb misguided opinions about music.
