I've noticed a few people asking for bass tabs to start off playing, and thought should have a seperate thread for them. If any bass players could post some basic tunes for people just starting to learn, would be good.

Smells Like Teen Spirit-Nirvana

Interpol - Specialist,
Smiths - There Is A light that Never Goes Out

12-29-2004, 04:15 PM
also the intro to badge by cream is fun n easy

12-30-2004, 10:02 AM
My friend's been pestering me to learn the bass for Muse - Hysteria. Do u know where to find the best tabs for it?

01-02-2005, 04:24 PM
I just started playing bass, and Smoke on the Water and Iron Man are pretty easy (most of iron man anyway)

01-03-2005, 12:32 AM
Whole lotta love-led zeppelin
smells like teen spirit- nirvana
come as you as are - nirvana
april 26 1992 -sublime

01-03-2005, 06:17 PM
Highway to Hell, AC/DC is also really easy. That was one of the first things I learned from tabs.

01-07-2005, 12:12 AM
Longview - Green Day

01-08-2005, 03:31 PM
Longview? Really?

01-11-2005, 05:45 PM
Yes, really.

Sunshine of your love - Cream
Smoke on the water - Deep Purple
How many more times - Led Zeppelin
Enter Sandman - Metallica

01-12-2005, 09:00 PM
may be slightly harder, but the basses in my band has recently gotten into sublime, they have a few fun funk bass lines

Wrong way
Carress me down
Slow ride

Also try easy chili peppers:
Cant stop

01-16-2005, 04:22 PM
^ I recommend What I got for both beginner's guitarists & bassists.

What I got by sublime

01-18-2005, 01:08 AM

razors edge - AC/DC

01-21-2005, 05:53 AM
The easiest song to learn on bass is whole lotta rosie by ac/dc its so simple.

01-22-2005, 12:07 AM
Sliver- Nirvana, cool little bass intro, very simple.

T-Bone (Bass)
02-05-2005, 04:17 PM
I played For whom the bell tolls as one of my first melodies on the bass, pretty easy bass line and dont get confused by the intro, it is bass and it is easy, but I had a tab marathon at first.

02-07-2005, 01:58 PM
thanks, theyre all really useful.
ive been playing bass for almost a week now but i was finding it hard to decide what to start with.

02-10-2005, 07:31 PM
they aren't exactly my fav. band, but anything by blink 182 is pretty simple

02-12-2005, 09:35 AM
One of the first songs I learned to play on my bass was "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. When it gets to the fast part with the drums its a lot of fun to play!

02-18-2005, 10:31 PM
Suck my kiss- RHCP

EDIT: Hysteria by Muse is a good one. There's a thing on this site for it.

02-19-2005, 06:12 PM
Clapton - Cocaine
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love
Nirvana - Well, pretty much all of their songs
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
Those were my starters

Stay away from Zeppelin tunes. They're deceptively difficult at times. If anyone knows how to play What is and What Should Never Be, you're a better man than I.

P.S. Props to aerogirl - not because she's a chick bassist, but because that SNL skit is sweet. Christopher Walkin - yea.

02-21-2005, 11:37 PM
this one might be too easy, but Pretend We're Dead by L7 is the first one i learned... any bass line by a chick band is good to start on.

02-23-2005, 08:10 PM
I love Green Day and theses are the songs I started with

Brain Stew
Hitchin' a Ride

and by other bands

All My Life - Foo Fighters
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes

- Pretty fly (for a white guy)- The Offspring
- She- Green Day
- Smells like teen spirit- Nirvana
- Bad Habit- The Offspring
- Me and my old lady- The Offspring

03-09-2005, 06:29 PM
Try Sucker Punch by Five Iron Frenzy, it's a good one to learn/practice faster stuff on the lower strings. I myself don't have a bass, but it helped my friend alot who has one

03-10-2005, 04:31 AM
how to read tabs ba? thanks

03-16-2005, 07:22 PM

randyrhoads rip
03-30-2005, 01:22 AM
i would have to say... even though i dont play bass i play guitar (same aspect) that system of a downs aerials would be a god bass start... it has slides palm muting bars and lots of individual picking... lots of good skills to have... ull notice n the song that the bass has a # of good skills to start off learning... its fairly ez for a beginner to pick up on as well...

randyrhoads rip
03-30-2005, 01:24 AM

05-20-2005, 11:01 PM
idunno, AC/DC doesn't have much bass

05-21-2005, 05:41 PM
it might sound stupid but "scotty doesn't know" from Euro Trip is really easy

the nib solo isn't too difficult either

05-23-2005, 11:01 AM
Smoke on the water-Deep purple (very easy for bass players just starting off)
King nothing-Metallica
sweet child o mine-Guns N' Roses

06-02-2005, 12:23 AM
try zeppelin how many more times, even if you dont want to play the song its a pretty standard blues form

i think i put it somewhere on this forum already, so check back a few pages to see if you can find it.

06-07-2005, 12:21 PM
I dunno if anyone wrote this yet....but,

Another One Bites the Dust - by Queen

is a really good song and is easy to play. or even the intro to "Crazy train" (by ozzy) is fun and easy!

06-10-2005, 01:49 AM
I remember back when i was a are some easy songs that everyone knows....

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes
Dammit - Blink 182
American Idiot - Green Day
Intro of Crazy Train - Ozzy Ozz Ozz

Also try to get the bass tabs for a lot of rap song. About every rap song has a bass in it so try to learn those. My advice for every beginning bassist who is trying to get better. Keep sticking to simple basslines like Blink 182. Once u got that down, try to start learning songs from Green Days album International Super Hits. Once you got down comfertable with playing with a pick and doing pull offs, start trying to do slap pop. To do that, jus keep practicing playing songs u would usually play with a pick. Also a good idea is to pick ur favorite mudvayne song, and keep trying to learn that by using slap pop and double fingers and the other playing styles that ryan uses. Once u got that one mudvayne song down, learn another one. and another one. Then start learning primus. Once u got that...i would say ur pretty good. Now all u gotta do is start writing music. But it better be good.

Down on the Corner - CCR

06-27-2005, 06:15 AM

not the real version, that's pretty hard cos you're supposed to play an open note behind nearly all the others. I've been plying for about 6 months and I can only do it with lots of hammer ons and pull off. I'm not sure how the guy really plays it. I recorded them at glastonbury but it's too hard to see.
But you could do it if you forget the open string notes.

07-02-2005, 03:56 AM

A cool walking line is Knowledge (cover) by Green day
orrrrr...Give it away by RHCP is really easy, once you know how to slide really fast :D Plus, it sounds waaaay cool.
And...well then there's the boring, dead easy lines who anybody that's able holding a bass could play...

10-16-2005, 12:47 PM
The best beginner solo is 45 by shinedown

10-18-2005, 03:25 PM
If you want a little more of a challenge on Smells Like Teen Spirit...Learn the guitar solo Kurt plays..Its really easy and you can play it easy on the bass..

Ive made a tab for Mellowship Slinky In B Major by Red Hot Chili Peppers..its pretty good but I was too lazy to write in alllll of the rythems and complicated things in it but theyre not too hard to figure out... All Nirvana songs are really eassyy I can learn them in about 2 mins so theyre not too hard.. I play ALOT of RHCP though because they are my favourite and bass is just awesome..Flea rocks:) I know almost all songs on BSSM and most of them are hard for begginers...But once you get more advanced really fun songs that arent tooo tooo hard are 'My Lovely Man' aweesoomee funky bass line I love it! and 'Apache Rose Peacock' great bassline..those are reallly fun and great sounding both off of BSSM:) hope I helped.

"I Miss You" by Blink 182 is real easy

05-17-2006, 05:11 PM

07-03-2006, 12:27 AM
I was told Seven Nation Army was played on guitar with a suboctive effect.

Anyway a couple of easy ones are "Lovesong" and "Just like Heaven" both are by The Cure.

07-07-2006, 05:20 AM
There are tons of metallica songs that are way too easy on bass.
Enter Sandman
Nothing Else Matters
The bass interlude in Orion
The first few notes in Anesthisia. like the first...40 seconds maybe?
King Nothing
Creeping death i learnt in my second week of playing.
And plenty more i couldnt be stuffed to think of.

Dancing Fool

Metallica-(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth

AUGH! Do NOT say Anesthesia is a beginning piece, it's NOT. It's VERY hard. Very good to help learn better control over the bass, good for intermediates to learn, but >> NOT FOR TOTAL NEWBS. <<
(I've played it, nearly memorized it, and I am STILL not as good at it as I'd like to be. Tis a fun song once you do learn it though.)

For total newbs, Green Day and Blink 182 is disgustingly easy, as is some of what I've looked at Evanescence.

Californiation by RHCP IS a fun one though, even though it's been recommended 200+ times :P

Mechanix- Megadeth is fairly easy, some slightly faster parts but pretty easy to do (I tabbed it. ;D)

07-30-2006, 01:04 AM
the first song i learned on bass was juicebox. i thought it was pretty easy.

07-31-2006, 03:31 PM

11-19-2006, 10:47 PM
I've been playing for about a month and a half nearing two months, so here's what I've learned in terms of easier songs so far.

Green Day - Longview
Billy Talent - Devil In A Midnight Mass (Still cannot play at the speed I'd like to, but it's fast enough to figure where I am, etc.)
Billy Talent - Red Flag
Billy Talent - This Suffering
Billy Talent - Surrender
Billy Talent - Where Is The Line? (Same with DIAMM, it's hard to hear on the album, but Jon does a very nice job with this.)
Billy Talent - Covered In Cowardice
Billy Talent - Sympathy
Rage Against The Machine - Bomb Track (Very fun, but I still don't have the intro down at the correct speed.)
Thursday - Counting 5-4-3-2-1
Thursday - Paris In Flames

Other than that I typically toy with practice riffs and what not.

11-21-2006, 05:39 PM
guarded Disturbed ^^ :D
o and a very simple riff that helps me a lot :

11-25-2006, 04:49 PM
I'm still pretty much a newbie, since "self-taught" and "playing for a year" aren't all that special. My list has an order to it, mainly cause it helps you improve timing, rhythm and dexterity as well as creativity.

Anyway, this is what I started on, and am up to:

The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows - Brand New
Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr - Trivium
First Breath After Coma - Explosions In The Sky
Joydiscoveryinvention - Biffy Clyro
Buddy Holly - Weezer
Clocks - Coldplay
A Favour House Atlantic - Coheed and Cambria
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Enter Sandman - Metallica
I Believe In A Thing Called Love - The Darkness
Poison - Alice Cooper
Arcarsenal - At The Drive In
Time Is Running Out - Muse

that's basically the order I've learnt my stuff in (not all of it listed, but that's a basic chunk of it).

Really, I found this to be the best way for the simple reason that it has a logical order:
1) Basic one note per verse "punk" [first two]
2) timing and rhythm [next two]
3) playing over many strings but keeping in with the guitar [next six]
4) playing over many strings, with a rhythm in mind [next two]
5) bass driven songs, that has the guitar follow them [next one] (aiming to learn Hysteria by Muse after that, since it follows on with the bass driven song idea)

11-30-2006, 06:47 PM
uhhh i got a few

7 nation army - Whitestripes
45 - Shinedown
Save me- Shinedown
Wildside by motley crue
Home - Breaking Benjamin
Wish I May - Breaking Benjamin
When in doubt - Thousand foot Krutch
Another know it all - Chevelle (you just really have to drop tuning with this one, its like drop B or some other ungodly tuning)

and most TrustCompany tabs are really easy to learn

these are all the tabs i started playing when i first began. enjoy. noobs

12-02-2006, 02:45 AM
well i'm 21 and i play bass 7 month ago.i live in lebanon and i got an offer to play with a local band called phobia, i got to my try out and they were shocked when i played my friend of miserry for metallica. kind of easy song, everybody thinks that it's hard. but when u practice a lot every thing becomes easy.

PS: we play only covers

try to play:
waisting love: iron maiden
the clairvoyant:iron maiden
for whom the bell tolls: metallica
when the smoke is going down: scorpions
rock you like a hurrican: scorpions
a tout le monde :megadeth
dawn patrol: megadeth (will help a lot)
countdown to extinction: megadeth
californication: RHCP

the harder song you play no matter how much time it's gonna take, the most great player you become

12-02-2006, 03:07 AM
get into tiamat. so ****ing easy

12-02-2006, 04:52 AM
Probably the best song to learn for a beginner is seven nation army by the white stripes. simple as heck with nothing too fast or too challenging and it can all be done without using alternating picking!

Prosthetic Head
12-10-2006, 04:37 PM
All Green Day after Dookie is easy. I bet that before it is, too, but I've yet to get Kerplunk or 1039 SMOSH. It's all fun to, in the opinion of a total Green Day fanatic.

12-28-2006, 07:58 PM

12-28-2006, 09:08 PM
Anything by Nirvana. Intro to Crazy Train is pretty easy too.

12-29-2006, 06:13 PM
anyone have a bass tab for 'Baby let me follow you down' by Dylan/The Band

12-29-2006, 10:58 PM
AC/DC - Back in Black
RHCP - Snow(Hey Oh)
Fun. but still pretty easy songs.

12-30-2006, 06:06 PM
I picked up a bass today and I found that big bottom by spinal tap is insanely easy.

01-07-2007, 07:58 PM
Some easy are prolly:
Longview by Green Day
Iron Man
Smells Like Teen Spirit-Nirvana
Come As You Are -Nirvana
The Intro To Dance,Dance by Fall Out Boy /

An easy bass tab? Try "Killing In The Name"
Here's a simple little part of it...
This part starts after:
"Killing in the name of..."
A-----3h5-------5--------------------------------- I

01-19-2007, 05:51 PM
Not sure if someone's mentioned this song previously in the thread but I cba sorting through it to find out. "My Michelle" by Guns N' Roses is great tab, really fun, easy too.

01-20-2007, 04:26 AM
seven nation army the white stripes is pretty easy

01-23-2007, 08:21 PM
system of a downs BYOB if you can play it you can play basicaly anything

01-28-2007, 05:54 PM
Well if you picked up the bass five minutes ago Running With The Devil by Van Halen would be a good place to start. You could have one song under your belt in less than 5 minutes. :D

01-30-2007, 10:29 AM
Anything by MCR is pretty easy, although some some require rather fast picking. good practice though.

02-11-2007, 08:57 PM
although i'm a beginner myself i would suggest you practice:
dammit by: blink-182
she by: green day
blitzkrieg bop by: the ramones

02-16-2007, 12:15 AM
not sure if this was mentioned but Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria is easy. so is Peter Gunn Theme by ELP, though its a bit fast but if you play it slow its easy then build up.

02-16-2007, 12:25 AM
Anything by George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

02-24-2007, 02:01 PM

those are decently easy to play and extremely FUN to play. also after you learn the bass line he puts in their, you can go on and find the tabs for the rest of the song, which are usually like the bass line. FUN and for the most part easy.

02-24-2007, 11:36 PM
My friend's been pestering me to learn the bass for Muse - Hysteria. Do u know where to find the best tabs for it?

Search. of band...hysteria...most stars....duh.

02-27-2007, 05:07 AM
I've really been playing a bit but im not the best and recently got a bass for christmas. I can play
Down On The Corner - CCR
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet (its pretty easy to lear the first bit of)
Simpsons Theme

And Thanx to all the people contributing it helps :D

03-02-2007, 11:20 AM
The first song that I learned on bass was "Flaming Pie", by Paul McCartney, for which I have found no tab, but will be submitting one soon.

Then I learned "Fortunate Son", and "Hey Tonight", by CCR.

Then, for my first walking bassline, I learned "Eight Days A Week", great Beatles tune.
Basically, all I'm working on right now is The Beatles, and I'm trying to write some of my own basslines.

I'd recommend The Beatles to anybody who's starting out. You just need to find the right song.

I'm currently trying to learn "Taxman", and that fast bit in the middle is a real chore to play... I had to get the tab, since I couldn't get the fast bit by ear. I got the rest of it though.

I don't suppose anybody has an accurate tab for "Hold Me Tight" by The Beatles?
It's reeeeeeeally hard to hear the bassline...

If you have a teacher, give them the names of your favorite bands, and let them take a look for you if they're willing. Then, you might wind up learning an easy song that's not a run of the mill, well known beginner's song, and you'll be able to say that, while everyone else is learning "Smells Like Teen Spirit", you're learning something that most beginners don't even touch. :D

03-03-2007, 11:58 PM
Try out these:

Borris the Spider- The Who
Pieces- Sum 41

sorry, i don't know any more because i haven't been playing bass that long myself.

If you're up for a challenge...

Toxicity- System of a Down
Pictures- System of a Down

these are pretty tough for me at least, but i can almost play Toxicity. I haven't really tried Pictures yet...

03-07-2007, 07:46 PM
Down on the Corner- CCR
Suzie Q- CCR (it's a little difficult at first, but eventually you can come up with some sweet change-ups in the middle of the song if you practise it)
Another One Bites the Dust- Queen
Under Pressure- David Bowie
Drown- Three Days Grace
Are You Gonna Be My Girl?- Jet
Sure Know Something- KISS
Money- Pink Floyd

Some of them aren't completely beginner ones. I actually have a hard time remembering the progression for Money, but I at least know the main riff and everything. They're mostly pretty repetitive. They were a lot of my first songs, and I still play them.

03-13-2007, 10:09 AM
Back in Black by ACDC is really easy

Jacob McL
03-21-2007, 04:55 PM
Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes it was my first song i learned

03-26-2007, 05:05 AM
If you want some simple TABs that sound pretty good, then try some Bullet For My Valentine.
the bassist is not very good so.. yeah.. the bass lines are easy peasy..
i mean i hardly ever play the bass and i find them easy.. XD

03-28-2007, 08:50 PM
yo just found another easy tab: The Hell Song by Sum 41

04-05-2007, 03:32 AM
nirvana-smells like teen spirit
six feet unders tnt cover
all misfits songs
some black metal bands like Endstille are very easy too,but there are no tabs.

04-14-2007, 02:04 PM
Hi everyone here is a bass line i have written for beginners , you can send me an email if you would like the backing track to play along with.

What do all the symbols mean?

W - whole note (semibreve)
H - half note (minim)
Q - quarter note (crotchet)
E - 8th note (quaver)
S - 16th note (semiquaver)
T - 32nd note (demisemi quaver)
X - 64th note (hemidemisemi quaver)
? - Fret number not defined (note out of range)

If a dot appears after one of the above then it means that the note is 1.5
times as long, e.g. Q. is 3 8th notes long. Two dots means 1.75 times long.

If a '+' sign appears after a note then that note is tied to (held on to) the
next note.

|1. | - play bar/s under this sign first time only in repeats

|2. | - play bar/s under this sign second time only in repeats

|1.3. | - play bar/s under this sign first and third time only in repeats

||* - Repeat back to this sign

*|| - Repeat from this sign

|-3-| - Triplet

04-15-2007, 02:30 AM

04-21-2007, 02:31 PM
Dani California-Red Hot Chili Peppers
Snow (Hey Oh)-Red Hot Chili Peppers
Smells Like Teen Spirit-Nirvana
Dance Dance-Fall Out Boy (it sucks but it's pretty good for beginners)

04-25-2007, 07:46 PM
Something really simple would be basically anything by blink-182.

Also, something to help you out and it's relatively easy is Longview by Green Day.

04-26-2007, 05:10 PM
Just wanna say, Damien guitar - That riff is pretty nice man. Sort of edited it a little bit... But still very nice.

And also - wanna say: Guns and Roses - Rocket Queen is a good bass tab, One or two tricky bits, but life is easier when you can hear the bass as clearly as you can with this song. Also a good one to practice Hammer/Pulls. Not too complicated in this one, the beat is pretty simple too.

And also, go ahead and have a stab at Guns and Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, very nice little bass intro.. can feel a bit daunting at first, but once the intro's mastered - the rest of the song will come flowing to you easily.

Other songs to try:

Venice Queen - RHCP
Snow ((Hey Oh)) (Just the intro really. Quite a cool little thing) - RHCP
This is the place - RHCP
How to save a life - The Fray (I'll warn you now - quite boring.. but a nice one to play along to)
My Goddess - The Exies
WHite Wedding - The Murderdolls (VERY simple, and really quite fun to play along to)
Pretty Fly for a White guy - The Offspring
Helicopter - Bloc Party
Weekend Warriors - A Change Of Pace (May take a couple of attempts for absoloute beginners. if it's your first time learning a song, steer clear of this one for a little while^^)

And when you're a little more comfortable, maybe have a stab at Velvet Revolver - Slither, the main riff is surprisingly simple. But I had troubles with the verse and solo parts 'cause I couldnt seem to get the tempo of it really...

Cheers guys, Happy bassing!

04-28-2007, 09:06 PM
I've found 2 bass tabs that are also pretty easy, but i wouldn't suggest them as your first or second song:
First Date--Blink 182
Animal I Have Become--Three Days Grace

Animal is actually pretty tricky at parts. listen to the song and use your finger to follow along with the tab first to get the beat and watch out cuz there is one really tricky part in i think like the third riff maybe?

04-30-2007, 10:10 AM
Isnt 'Animal I've Become' played on a 5-string bass? 'Cause obviously if it is... it may not be for begining bassists.

Then again, I can roughly remember parts of it, and it is pretty simple throughout apart from, as mentioned above, the odd tricky part.

Weezer - Beverly Hills.

^ Really, quite a cool song, VERY simple.. same beat is carried on throughout, so there's no change in speed. And only one change to remember, which is just the chorus. And, when I had a look and played along to it. I did actually find it quite fun for some strange reason. Go ahead. Give it a shot, you can't go wrong with this one.

EDIT: My bad, Animal isnt played on a 5 string bass - Not sure why I thought it was

05-02-2007, 11:25 AM
I started out trying songs where you hear the bass well. Like Catch 22.
And then played easyer stuff like Q and Not U songs off Different Damage

05-02-2007, 09:11 PM
dead american - LFATB(lars frederiksen and the bastard)
to have to have not-LFATB
Crane Fist-rancid
Moron Bros.-nofx (the rancid verson isnt a fast)
Wrongful Suspicion-rancid
for the punx-the casulties

05-03-2007, 03:21 PM
Here's a few good and easy songs.
~Shinedown -- Save Me
~Three Days Grace -- Animal I Have Become
~Armor For Sleep -- The Truth About Heaven
~Rise Against -- 1000 Good Intentions
~Drist -- Arterial Black
~Muse -- Stockholm Syndrome
~Billy Talent -- Fallen Leaves

[Arterial Black and Stockholm Syndrome are a little fast but they're still easy.]

Hope those help.

05-05-2007, 08:58 AM
Saliva - Survival of the Sickest - Pretty easy if you ask me. Some parts I wasnt sure about cause it can be quite hard to hear the bass at parts. But it's pretty simple to figure it out.

Mad Caddies - Drinking for 11 - May be a deceptive tab. But once you get the timing is pretty awesome.

05-11-2007, 04:08 PM
well not necesarily easy but fun

Miss Murder - AFI

05-12-2007, 02:50 AM
Hummm, im not sure if anyone mentioned but i just had to make a name and post cause id hate to see them left out....

As Footsteps Die Out Forever- Catch22 (Awesome bass riff.... Gotta love it)
Bro Hymn- Pennywise (Nother awesome riff)

Both are easy with a little pratice :) Enjoy

05-13-2007, 06:04 PM
most blink is easy to learn on bass as they're not overly quick or involve to much movement along the frets, most nirvana stuff is also good for beginners

05-14-2007, 07:12 PM
I'd go with Gorillaz. Almost all of there songs are pretty easy and sound good. Plus, the bass is up front in most of their songs, which makes it a little easier for a beginner to figure out. Also try Money - Pink Floyd, Crazy Train- Ozzy, Another One Bites the Dust - Queen. Even as a beginner i figured each out in under 5 minutes.

05-21-2007, 10:12 PM
Hypnotize by System of a Down is a really easy song. Only part beginners might have trouble with (and I mean like I just picked up a bass a couple days ago beginner) is the bridge which moves a little fast. And for all you emo kids out there, Dance Dance by Fallout Boy is a simple bass song.

05-22-2007, 05:07 AM
Well. If anyone's intrested I came up with a simple little riff. Very nice and easy, and sounds pretty funky too. This is my first ever tab posted anywhere on the net - so you'll have to forgive me if it's not written correctly.

A|-0-2-3---3-2-0-3-5---5-3-0-2-3----3-2-0--9-11-12 (Eleven/Twelve)]

Can be played with any tuning really. Sounds good down half-a-step.

Ps. Not sure how to explain how to to time this. But the tempo will probably come to you easily.

And also, slide back up to the 2nd fret after you've hit the 12.

Or, if you arnt confident in moving around the frets too much, (going from things liek 1st to 7th etc) which is allright, 'cause I'll admit I didnt like moving around too much when I started out. Anyways, if this is the case you can either:

1. Leave out the 9-11-12, or...
2. replace it with 7-9-10 (Still remaining on the A-String)

Let me know how y'all get on. Some recordings of it would be pretty cool.

05-22-2007, 10:12 PM
i gotta try out that bassline some time sirpsychothesex. nice job for your first tab, nothing wrong that i can see

dinha soady
05-23-2007, 07:58 AM

05-28-2007, 02:21 AM
Linkin Park - In the End
My Chemical Romance - I Don't Love You
Anything Fall Out Boy

Definitely not my type of music, but as a beginner at bass I found them easy to pick up on.

About 2 Snap
05-28-2007, 05:24 AM
Today Won't Go Down In History - Enter Shikari

Very easy song.

05-31-2007, 07:40 AM
Blink 182 - Anthem Part 2, All The Small Things

06-01-2007, 06:48 AM
My mates just starting out on bass, i play guitar and im trying to find a song that that we can play together that she will be able to learn pretty fast , for someone just starting, is Boulevard of Broken Dreams somthing to much to start with? am trying to find a good song that is as simple as hell. any suggestions? thanxs :)

06-01-2007, 03:20 PM
The simplest song has got to be Beverly Hills by Weezer. Your friend will be able to play this in a matter of minutes

06-04-2007, 03:59 PM
Anyway you want it - The Rise Against cover anyways.

The only reason I say Rise Against cover is 'cause there arn't any tabs for Journey or any other covers on here

Like Beverly Hills (Which, Matt. I did mension in an earlier post) you can learn this song in a matter of minutes. May wanna just set yourself a good 20, 30 minutes to sit down, study the tab, listen to the song (whilst following the tab without playing), then play through the tab and then finally have a stab at playing along.

Very simple though. And the Version One tab on here is ace.

06-04-2007, 08:55 PM

damn! so that's who posted it. I knew someone told me about that. Anyway I got another easy one, Possum Kingdom by Toadies. There are some chords in there however, but this'll help begginners get used to playing chords, cuz these are some easy ones.

06-07-2007, 10:24 AM
No worries Matt;

Just popping on to say - Golden Brown, We ALL know the song, amazingly good song. The Bass is so simple.

Give it a shot.

The Hooded Jew
06-10-2007, 12:47 PM
where dragons rule by dragonforce. its quick as hell which is good for practice andd has a few little technical bits in there too for kicks

06-14-2007, 09:35 AM
The Stranglers - Peaches

Awesomly catchy riff - And VERY simple.

06-14-2007, 06:36 PM
Just back with another one: Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine

06-27-2007, 08:52 AM
Green Day - Holiday

With a bit of practice.

GIve the bass solo a run through one or twice. Slowly.

And wa-la.

06-28-2007, 06:33 PM
smells like teen spirit by nirvana is very easy to learn

07-02-2007, 10:43 AM
In Too Deep by Sum 41 is pretty easy. In fact most Sum 41 is easy for bass. If you like playing punk/pop rock you're gonna have an easy time learning bass

07-02-2007, 11:44 AM
All you fellas and gals out there getting ready to enter the wide wide world of slap bass, such as myself. I have a beginner slap/pop song:

Lenny K - Fly Away.

Took me about 40 minutes to get it. Im still having troubles keeping the notes clean, but hey - A song to help with slap/pop can't be bad.

Plus - the song actually rules.

07-02-2007, 01:10 PM
teen spirit by nirvana, jailbreak by thin lizzy,dr feegood by motley crue

07-03-2007, 01:58 PM
Song i know (i'm a beginner)

- Iron Man- Black Sabbath
- Sunshine of your love - cream
- Oh! The Casino?!- The Fall of Troy (great band check them out)
- Crazy Train (intro) - Ozzy Osbourne
- Jenny was a friend of mine- The Killers
- Every breath you take - The Police
- Killing in the name - Rage against the machine
- Smoke on the water - Deep Purple
- Its Dangerous Business Walking out your front door - Underoath
- Are you going to be my girl? - Jet

I've been only playing for 2 months so yeah... I pretty much suck.

07-08-2007, 08:14 AM
Renegades of Funk - RATM (Rage Against the Machine)

Use Version 2 - Version One is pretty off and requires a bit of adapting, but Ver 2 is almost spot on. Lots of rests in this song, and very simple riff anyways, prety much:

That's the jist of the song.. tbh.

Enjoy it, plus, playing rage is a good way to impress people. No matter how simple the riff.

Alo, have ago at the Calm Like A Bomb Intro. Sounds complicated. But it's really not that bad.

07-09-2007, 10:10 PM
A good simple bass song is Smells like Teen Spirit, I think it has a total of three riffs in it.

Anything by the pixies is sickeningly easy, gouge away probably being the easiest
debaser isn't "hard" either, it just uses quite a few notes.

Iggy Pop - The Passenger.

If you ignore the variations for the first time round.. then it's a good song to practice keeping in time. Something that's gonna be important later on. And then once you've kept in time, stick the variations in. If youask me, nice little riff.

Also. Seeing as the only bass tab on here doesn't explain when the variations come in, you can practice listening to the bass line properly. :liplick:

Enjoy =D

A great bassline is "Don't Come Around Here No More" I've tabbed it. And it's on here. Rare and alot for a beginner to get their head around technique-wise but if you are familiar with slides, double stops and pull offs then its SOOO easy but great.

07-17-2007, 01:30 PM

08-14-2007, 04:56 AM

Tool - 46 & 2 (Slightly difficult)
Type O Negative - Black No. 1
Rammstein - Los

Wouldn't recommend "Push Push Lady Lightning" By Bang Camaro, because of the outro. I've been playing a year and i still don't have it tight.

I started with MCR songs, I started playing when the Black Parade came out and i got a Bass and that album. I can now play all of that album. I suggest trying famous last words and disenchanted first up.

Blink 182's stuff is all quite easy.

If you want to practise galloping, try Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down.

Nirvana's stuff is unfunnily easy, as is pretty much all of Fall Out Boys New Album.

08-24-2007, 01:06 PM
What I started with was Three Days Grace Tabs, excellent for beginners, to get the beat going, along with rythm.

Longview for beginners?? Are you crazy man? that song ain't ment for beginners:P

What? It's just a climbing and descending scale at a relatively slow tempo, in my book making it pretty easy.

I don't know if anyone has said these yet but my favorites are:

Groove is in the heart - Dee-lite (very funky and simple, I don't think it's on the site but I'll tab it out if you PM me)

Teenage Riot - The Ataris

Journey to the end of east bay - Rancid (A little harder but worth it)

Bach's Sonota #1 in G minor (Very rewarding if you can memorize the whole thing, it'll take a couple of months so don't worry. You can find it here: )

and of course:
Public Service Announcement - The Bravery

Sorry if they're a little harder than you might expect but I hate 3 note one string bass lines  .
