that would ruin the setlist for me (well not ruin, but all the greaty songs they could have played instead of the mirror).
About that: anyone else feels like DT makes setlists today to be heavy, energetic and progressive, instead of mellow too? They have so much great mellow songs, but only the spirit carries on and hollow years get a regular play. I'd love to see them perform good night's kiss or disappear, eve etc. but yeah in a 1.5 hour setlist there isn't much to play

Ha I completely forgot to mention JLB ****ing TCOT up something awful when I saw them (Glasgow show).
He sang the lyrics for the first verse normally for about 2 lines then slipped into the second verse lyrics completely throwing off everyone singing along.
Other than that flawless show. Anyone else really liking the projector vids up during the songs? The one for erotomania especially is astounding (if you haven't seen it, it basically goes through a screen of all DT's album covers and then zooms in on it and shows animations of the album art. Really improved an already great song.
But ****, the ambient section it TCOT drags just as much live which is depressing.

When you say intrigued, do you mean by what you've heard or just what people have been saying? It's a tough one to call really but have a listen to:
Overture 1928/Strange Deja Vu
The Dance Of Eternity
Take The Time
Another Day
As I Am
Octavarium (if you have time :p: )
That should give you a pretty well-rounded view of what they do.

As much as I hate racism, I don't really mind if anyone finds no appeal in a certain race. It's when people hate other races I get worked up. If you're simply not interested, that can't be helped, but when people start to hate based solely on stereotypes and colour, then it becomes a problem.
Anyway, we may aswell continue this:

hauntu4ever, Yes a majority of it is metal, but what I was suggesting was that ANTR was their 'heaviest' song.

Still I think ANTR takes the cake, although The Glass Prison, most of ToT come close.
Although I generally think arguing over whats heavier is dumb (since it is entirely subjective, and there isn't really anything to measure the 'heaviness' with [there aren't any scales olololol]) I think a freindly discussion and some comparisons are alright.

Hate for 6:00? Well now I've heard everything.
That song, along with the rest of Awake, was the very first song that made me realise "Whoa... this is Dream Theater? Where the hell have I been all this time!" - bearing in mind that 3 years prior I had only heard The Way It Used To Be, Don't Look Past Me and Home; none of which are exactly the best introduction to DT!
So it's still a firm favourite of mine (easily top 5), but I will agree that the intro samples are irritating. I don't care about the movies, the weird humour of Moore, or whatever else 'interesting' - they're annoying as hell. That woman who says the "Mary Jane" line should be smacked in the face.

Once again I feel like I'm the only one in the thread not taking crazy pills. Home is one of their best tracks and possibly petrucci's overall best (so many excellent riffs and that solo). It also has JR's best DT keyboard solo by a good way.
Minus the sex noises it's a perfect song.

I don't know about perfect, but yes it's certainly a classic. I won't disagree with anything there.
But it's simply not a good introduction to DT, I find. Too long, too many changes, some silly stuff going on, not especially catchy, and too out there. The usual Pull Me Unders or even 6:00 and ANTR are far better ways to introduce new ears to the band. I wouldn't Dream of playing Home to a first-timer.

I just realised how much Scenes From A Memory rules.
Way better than Awake.
EDIT: Perhaps I should explain what I meant when I said I couldn't stand 6:00.
I exaggerated quite fiercely.
What I really meant by that was: 'the sample at the start of 6:00 takes away from an otherwise great song.

How can I feel abandoned even when the world surrounds me
How can I bite the hand that feeds the strangers all around me
How can I know so many
Never really knowing anyone
If I seem superhuman
I have been
Misunderstood
Actually, I really like this verse
Playing a lion being led to a cage
I turn from surreal to seclusion
From love to disdain
From belief to delusion
From a thief to a beggar
From a god to 'God save me'

Are you trying to suggest that If the only songs on 6DOIT were those 2, it would still win? Because I have four other songs that would like a word with you... One of them is so big you could call it 8 songs.
That whole album is fucking amazing. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite. Although it probably wouldn't be Blind Faith, as much as I like it.

So in a perfect world in this brief gap of DT album/tour we woud get:
JP solo album
Transatlantic tour
JLB solo album
JR solo album
Akerfeldt/Wilson/Portnoy project
Awesome God of War (singular, take note MP :p: ) instrumental
The entire works of Shakespeare narrated entirely by John Myung

Got all of them but the Chile DVD. Was gutted they didn;t sell it at the prog nation show (ystejam is a pain in the ass often).
FII demos are real interesting and much, much better than the SFAM one. Some nice goofing around from DS included here and there.
TOT instrumental demos are basically a rough around the edge TOT, that's instrumental. Still good to listen to and the keyboard is much more prominent than in the final album.
Uncovered hasn't really got much listening from me (probably as I'm not a huge fan of any of the bands) but the yes cover is brilliant.
