What songs do you like to play that are in drop C?

I like to play Spiders and Toxicity by SOAD mostly, most of their songs are in that tuning tho..

A lot of the newer metal bands use that only though...or atleast metal influenced so they say...

a lot of the new "metal" bands (slipknot atreyu killswitch engage soad) etc use drop c, usually its easier just to play them in drop d and only retune 1 string instead of 6.

Am I right in thinking that Drop C is just standar tuning dropped down two entire steps, and drop B is Two entire steps but the lowest strings tuned to B?

It's a bit confusing as Drop D would suggest that it's an entire detuning of all strings when we know it's just the low string and then with the.... and .... erm...

God this is confusing!

narmi
07-16-2005, 07:32 AM
No

Drop C is drop D tuned down one step

The E string is tuned down two steps to C and the rest are tuned down one step

In drop D the E string is tuned down one step and the rest are in standard

Playing in C is where all strings are tuned down 2 steps
Playing in D is where all strings are tuned down one step

A drop tuning is when the lowest E string is tuned lower than the other strings letting you hold a power chord with one finger

You were right about drop B - that is Drop D tuned down two steps i.e E is tuned down 3 steps and the rest of the strings are tuned down 2 steps

There is a tuning question thread in Basics check it out

Dream Theater either plays in standard or with a 7-string. At least from the tabs I've downloaded.

But Atreyu has some fun songs in Drop C. Right Side of the Bed is easy, Bleeding Mascara isnt too tough.

And Bad Horsie by Vai is Drop C as well. So is the rythm part for Building the Church.

You were right about drop B - that is Drop D tuned down two steps i.e E is tuned down 3 steps and the rest of the strings are tuned down 2 steps

There is a tuning question thread in Basics check it outI don't have any music theory training, but isn't drop B when the low E is tuned down by 2.5 steps and all other strings are tuned down by 1.5 steps?

For the low E string, here are semitones we go through as we tune down to B:
E => Eb => D => C# => C => B

That's 5 semitones, or 2.5 full steps, right?

For the A string:
A = > G# => G => F#

That's 3 semitones, or 1.5 full steps, right?

For the D string:
D => C# => C => B

That's 3 semitones, or 1.5 full steps.

Again, I don't have any music theory training, so maybe I'm confused. Am I missing something?

Really, it only matters if the low string is droped by a fulltone. Ill blay Bring me the horizon stuff in Drop D. I just go to the tunings on guitar pro and just press the "all up" button three times untill all of the notes are in DADGBE if anything is in a "standard" then ill just transpose it if I need to.

Rarely do I play as deep as bring me the horizon and stuff in actual Drop B unless its for a coversong in my basic guitar class :D thats right, i said baisic guitar

Alright people, since there is so much discussion on the subject, I will go ahead and solve it definitively.

Octavarium:

Root of all Evil: 6 string Eb standard
The Answer Lies Within: 6 string standard.
These Walls: 7 string tuned to A standard
I walk beside you: D standard
Panic Attack: Baritone (6 string) tune one step up to Bp Standard
Sacrificed Sons: 6 string standard.
Octavarium: same as ^above^

Train of Thought:

As I am: 6 string C standard
This Dying Soul: 7 String standard
Endless Sacrifice: 6 string D standard
Honor Thy Father: 6 String C standard
Vacant: lol, no guitar
Stream of Consciousness: 6 string Eb Standard
In the name of God: 6 string C standard.

6 Degrees of Inner turbulence:

Glass Prison: 7 string standard
Blind Faith: Baritone Standard (A) and 6 string standard (E)
Misunderstood: Drop D acoustic, 7 string electric standard (not exactly sure)
The Great Debate: 6 string standard
Disappear: 6 string Standard

Black Clouds and Silver linings:

A nightmare to remember: 6 string C standard
A rite of Passage: 6 string D standard
Wither: 7 string 1/2 step down
The Shattered Fortress: 7 string standard
The best of Times: E standard
The Count of Tuscany: E standard.

I hope I cleared some things up.
