I'm taking my guitar apart, and I'm trying toi get the volume and controll knobs off so i can switch the pickguard, but how do i take them off w/o damageing them. I went the tops to come off, but all the wiring to stay intact. Also, how can i get the pickup selector switch through?

Just pull them off. If they don't come off look here:
http://projectguitar.com/tut/knob.htm
Then you will need a rachet or a wrench to get the washer and nuts off to push them thru the pickgaurd.

For the selector, you can just pull that little plastic tip on the top off, unscrew the 2 screws on either side and push it through the pickgaurd.

i found that a thin sock (or pantyhose) shoved under the knob at the middle of the sock, pulled up towards u , the knob pops off like a slingshot.

this is unless the knob has a little screw in it, keeping it in the pot. mostly tele's knobs do.

the selector switch pulls off. thats a little trickier if its stuck.

1. pull them off
2. do the rest
3. when puttng them back on take a thick plectrum and wiggle it on the middle little indent (thingy) that will stop it from falling off.

^i dont want to pick on you, but its a little strange how u answered a question that was weeks old and already answered. did u think after he thanked everyone that he was still stuck?
im sure u just read the first post, but this is a perfect example of why people need to read more than the first post.

i really dont see the problem.
i knew the thread was old. it popped up on my daily thread search.
