REM and Counting Crows both use mandolin a lot in their songs. I usually just find the chord outlines for the guitar part and use that to help me figure out what to play on mandolin

to IndieSucks: shut the **** up you ****ing noob thats just cause people who play mandolins actually are smart and dont listen to **** bands like green day and blink 182 who play 3 chord songs. i suggest getting off the computer, soaking yourself in gasoline and lighting a match, unless youre willing to stop being such an ignorant piece of **** ****-faced scumbag.

Another zeppelin one would be Gallows Pole, but its a lame part, just deadening most the strings and strumming...

SWINGING ON THE GALLOWS POLE!

i reccomend ANY nickle creek song to be honest with you, but some of my personal favorites (that have good mandolin playing) are:

the lighthouse's tale
when you come back down
the fox
this side
green and gray

let me know what you think after you download them. if you can't find any, let me know. i've got them all.

explain to me how a mandolin is gay, it has no sex organs.

you are to closed minded to test out different instruments.

i suggest going to california by led zeppelin, beautiful song, but make sure your guitar player is in tune with the mandolin like it clearly is not on how the west was won.

whatever

During open acoustic jam sessions at our local guitar shop on Friday nights the mandolin players (there are usually 2 or 3) just read off the guitar chord sheets to play along. Why limit yourself to one kind of music there is a lot of rock history in bluegrass and folk music, give something else a try, you might like it, me, I like all different kinds of music, country, rock, bluegrass, don't be as narrow minded as IndieSucks

Go anywhere and look for any bluegrass music. Most contains mandolin parts

flying2bill: it's really great to see someone else on this site with such a diverse taste in music. i seem to find that most people on forums like these have very specific and close-minded opinions on music and the different genres of music. i wish everyone would open their ears and their minds to the vast world of diverse musicianship.

thread starter: any luck/opinions with the nickle creek stuff i suggested?

"Glycerine" by Bush uses a mandolin

please do not respond to the 'mandolins are gay' post, I took care of it, please don't make me pass out warnings for people continueing to bring that up

TeenWolf

mandolins are for homos.

try Rod Stewart, David Grisman, Jazz Mandolin Project, Counting Crows, Zep.

I think you should pick a song that has NO mandolin and transcribe it for mandolin. That'd be BOSS

Try Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly

I'm actually not sure if its a banjo or a mandolin but try it anyway

I am sorry to hear that, I assure you that we do the best we can to keep it as family oriented as possible.

It is good to see you try and clean up the site, there is just too much vulgarity in use, I know that it is quite common in today's society but then this is probably not the place for this discussion.

A lot of the current crop of country songs have mandolin in them, Jo Dee Messina's new song I Believe It (Delicious Suprise) has a great rocking little beat to it, I can't wait for the tabs to come out for this one

It'd be a good idea to learn some chords for it.

I do'nt know any, but I'd suggest, maybe there's a "mandolin songbook" you could buy.

you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find any good mandolin tabs on the internet.

It's almost impossible with google.

I was under the impression that Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls is just played in a really weird tuning. I got bored, spent 10mins tuning my guitar, played the song once, then tuned back to standard, can't remember any mandolin, but then again, i could be wrong
