What are some songs that are actually played on 12-string guitars in the recording? I just want some examples, it's not really going to dictate what I play. Thanks.

Yeah "Wish You Were Here" is one of my favorites. Hm, I'm not sure but I think the intro to "Knockin on Heavens door" by Guns N Roses was recorded on a 12, or maybe Slash just plays it live on his 12. Not sure. I know it sounds wickedly cool when I play it on a 12 string though...:p:

Isn't complaining about that just and not talking about the topic raising your post count too?

All I can think of is Hotel California that's already been said, either way, 12-strings are kick@$$.

lol,,,,nice work nOOb
;) ;)

To thread starter, if your starting to play around on a 12 string, try all the songs you already know.
In many cases I've wondered why some songs werent recorded on a 12 in the first place.

at least the begining to more than a feeling is recorded with a 12 string. I also believe that tangerine by zeppelin is played (at least some of it is) on a 12 string.

I thought of another. Hard Luck Woman by KISS, but I'm not 100% sure on that. It sounds like it though.

Don't really know any songs that are played on 12 strings but I play most stuff on my 12 as I'm too lazy to buy new strings for my 6. :D

If you feel tuning all the strings down 2 full steps, "Mosquito Song" is the most bad ass song you can ever play on a 12 string.

Brave...

I think Nothing Else Matters is on 12-string, it kind of sounds like it. But, it might be the fact that it's two guitars.

Sorry for bumping this thread, looking into a 12 string guitar and wanted to see what songs can/are played on one.

One to add to this list, don't know if you can truly say it was recorded on a 12 string (it sounds like it) but Laid by James is always played live with both 6 string acoustic and 12 string, really good sound from the 6 string but I can only imagine a 12 string would make it sound amazing like it does recorded and live.

"Coil" by Opeth comes to mind. Also, there are other songs on most of their albums that have 12 strings involved.

"The World I Know" by Collective Soul is a good example.
"A Hard Day's Night" is a popular one too.
"Comfortably Numb" has a high-strung acoustic in the chorus, which should sound good on a 12.
Also check out anything by The Byrds or R.E.M.

Zombie tunes for a Zombie thread ;)
Most anything written (Over 200!) by Gordon Lightfoot. Most of the Byrds repertoire and virtually everything by McGuinn since. A lot of Tom Petty; as he is a McGuinn disciple. A lot of 60's-70's folk, folk rock stuff was written for/played on a 12. Quite a few Beatles tunes were recorded w/a 12. Reaching waaaaaay back; the Rooftop singers used TWO 12 stringers.
WHat's old is new again.. Thrash 12 string anyone ? LOL

I'm pretty sure that most of Led Zeppelin's acoustic work was recorded with a 12 string, so look into the Led Zeppelin III album and other acoustic songs by Jimmy Page.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven, rhythm is played on an acoustic 12. Lots of The Byrds has Roger McGuinn on 12.

A Simon & Garfunkel song. It's an oldie, true, it's a great intro to 12-string and how the string harmonics work.
