As I said its all in his style of BSSM, it wouldn't sound good to double his tracks on that album. But I listened to it in full today and I realised it was alot less raw than the impression I had of it. RHCP, FS, UMPP are all more raw >.>
I think Blood Sugar Sex Magik is only a wee bit more produced as their 80's albums. Just a 'lil!

^yea true...i like the way george clinton did freaky styley though..but i don't think the chili's will ever go back to that

From reading Scar Tissue it seemed like George Clinton was a pretty transperant producer, as in he let the band mostly do their own thing.

07-08-2007, 04:23 AM
Their next album should be a combination of SA and BTW with the production of BSSM. Also I don't think there is much need to worry about Josh joining the band because did Tree join the band when he played with them during MM era? Did those backing singers that they used during MM and OHM join the band? (They were pretty damn annoying though). If Josh was playing on every song, then I'd be annoyed but I'm fine with him playing on only a few songs as long as it stays like that. To me, Josh is a spitting image of MM John.

^well yea, but just to work with a guy like that must be..inspiring?

i think he won't be producer for them again unfortunately...and i really hope john uses that glassfretboard guitar on the next album

jtaylor
07-08-2007, 04:28 AM
^
^I don't think the production will at all be like BSSM in this day and age...

^ Agreed on the inspiring factor, and John would probably use it on a solo or two.

Fru and the Wu? No wai. Pics or it didn't happen.
:p:

"Last June, we posted information that John Frusciante has been working with Raekwon on his upcoming solo effort "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II". Yesterday HHNLive.com released a rumoured tracklist. According to their note John contributed to a track entitled "The Brass", which was produced by RZA and also features Ghostface Killah.
This contribution is a result of the work RZA did together with John in his studio. Supposedly there were five Beats captured. RZA, as well as Raekwon and Ghostface Killah are member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Rumours are that there is going to be released a 3-CD set in 2007, containing two discs worth of new material. Though, if any of John's recordings were used for this as well, is uncertain yet."

californication is my least favorite CD right next to the self titled actually but it has some good tracks on it, it just doesn't do it for me like Bssm, Mother's milk, Umpp, Freaky Styley or Stadium Arcadium

Around the world, otherside, Californication, Scar tissue are all great but some songs kind of get on my nerves on this CD

^12,000 post dude! Congrats. :peace:

And ya, they (meaning John) just started bringing him in for this year's European tour, to play 2nd guitar in some of their songs (since John does layering for some of them). His name his Josh Klinghoffen (or something like that). Hardcore Peppers fans have grown to hate him, because it seems like he has become a 2nd member, and could become permanent. Basically, he is threatening the chemistry of the band. And he shares all of John's mannarisms and even guitar tone and voice. He reminds me of that little kid that tags along with the school bully, but is actually a complete wimp.

wasn't john like that with Hillel in the early days? lol

JOKE!

lets just say josh did join the band (i know its a fear for most of us), how do you think the bands sound would change and what direction would they go in? i personally think that theyd end up focusing more on guitars, have way more solos and experiment with their music more

I think their next album would be very prog-rock like, sort of like a Tool album but less dark. Almost like One Hot Minute but not quite as heavy, which might be a good thing.

i think its very unlikely that Josh will be a permanent member anyways. He does contribute to live performances too with synth and guitar, all the focus is still on john. I thought it was quite funny, Josh stood far away from the band on stage at live earth lol, perhaps an idication he won't be a member

The only thing I agree with that guy is that BSSM is the best masterpiece of the 90's...and that the first half of TUMPP is teh sex (although the second half is too :p: ).

Naw.

It would sound like a John Frusciante album. Like Shadows. Exactly like that. Because now, instead of one hippie dictating the band, there would be two.

Listening to BTW again now, I forgot how good This Is The Place is, Johns backing vocals and that pedal he uses are so good hes all like 'Woh Wooh' and such. I've always been disappointed by Fleas bass lines on BTW :( They're alright, just not as good as the other albums.

Honestly, I was a tad disappointed. The only song I saw them play was Dani California, and the performance was fine, I was just disappointed when John didn't play the solo.

I love playing Cabron. It's a relatively challenging piece when you first get the hang of it and it's got a real nice melody to it. I love the fact that it's a Spanish-styled, cheery song musically but about gang violence and the ghetto lyrically. That was incredibly genius on Anthony's part.

True....something new would be nice to hear, I would like to see more psychedelic in there.
If Josh sticks with them, I could see some more psychedelic stuff on the way. Although I'm still completely against that.

Idiot-Guy
Then maybe they should plan their tours better? If they can't give 100%, why play at all? The audience shouldn't have to take that, since we actually pay to see them, and they get payed to play. You can't really come with fanboy arguments like "they've toured alot".

Myself
They're playing all these shows to satisfy you and to get their music out to as many people as possible. If they weren't touring enough and didn't visit Sweden or whatever Eastern Euro ****-hole you'd ****ing complain. Be thankful they even took the time to travel so extensively. No-one made you buy a ticket. No-one made you go see them.

Idiot-Guy
No point arguing with a fanboy; it's not like you even were there or will try to see the other side of the story. :) It was ****ty. Really ****ty. That is all.

Myself
What's the other side of the story then? Tell me. Have the Chilis...sold out and feel like ripping you off for your money!? Did Flea and AK get together earlier this year and say; 'Hey, we're running outta money, let's go play some cheap-ass shows in Sweden'. I THINK NOT. Anthony is ill, he mentioned this explicitly on Saturday. They've been touring extensively for nearly two years now...

Idiot-Guy
First, I said I won't argue with a fanboy, so this will be my last post here in the shoutbox. The fact that you call it a "cheap-ass" show in Sweden, when it was at the Roskilde festival in Denmark, one of the two biggest festivals in Europe, just further proves my point about fanboyism. Oh, and I hope the next time you go see your beloved chilis live they'll perform as bad as they did at Roskilde

Myself
No, you clearly did not understand my use of sarcasm in the use of 'cheap-ass', and even my completely fabricated conversation between Flea and AK. Jesus, you need a reality check my friend. Sure, they may have performed badly but they have a completely legit excuse to do so. They have no binding contract to give 110%. If they're feeling bad//ill, it'll show. **** you, you ain't no Peppers fan.

------

I was probably a little harsh but I just cannot do with people who flame a band for one bad show for whatever legit reason there is.

Some people are just jerks like that. They don't get that traveling one day on a plane for 9 hrs is tiring it drains the life outta you, jus try doing that a couple times a week. With all the foreign altitudes, shows, foods, and just being in a place completely unknown to you must be difficult, just try doing that for a year. Just cause your famous doesnt mean your perfect.

If John didn't have his solo career, I don't think he'd be as happy in the band as he is now, he would probably want more singing duties that he couldn't have and we'd probably have something similar to what happened during the BSSM tour

Damn it...maybe Mister.Y can come through...

And giving anyone besides Anthony lead vocals is a terrible idea. Especially John. I mean, he's already taken up a much bigger role the past two albums, giving him lead vocals would basically create a Roger Waters situation with the band. And no one would be happy, because John's own ego would grow, making the rest of the band angry, and then he would be angry because the band is angry.

But I do see Josh being featured on one song next album. As both a rhythm guitarist or backup vocalist. And Omar Rodriguez-Lopez as well. But none of Anthony or Flea of Chad's friends. They arent important enough.

Back from France for the day, leaving again tomorrow.

Josh only sounds like John because he uses his gear live. John was playing through a very similar set-up to John, using his White Strat.

Also, Paris was unbelievable.

Every single member was on fire, doing what they do.

I didn't sense any of this alleged 'tension' between the band that has been reportedly going on for a while. In fact, they boys just looked tired (you'd be too if you'd been touring for a year straight).

However, fantastic show and they never missed a note/beat.

Got some cracking pictures, I'll put them in here later.

I like the short version better, but the long version is pretty good as well. Listening to shorter versions of songs make the long versions seem very dragged out though, listen to both versions of Sexy Mexican Maid, the long version sounds like it is just full of unnecassary parts

sebastian_96
07-11-2007, 03:47 AM
^Same with Knock me Down....the extra parts seem unnecassary!
But both have bits I like and dislike so yeah...

And Josh was a good addition but I'm hoping he doesn't become a big part of RHCP.
John is like Josh's mentor which is cool but their has always been 1 guitarist in RHCP so I hope that stays

You know since John's new solo album is supposed to come out at the end of the summer (I don't know how the hell he's gonna manage that) maybe he took Josh on tour to work on the new solo album with him as well as to play guitar, keys and what not

sebastian_96

Yeah true...maybe to get some work done and such!

I wonder how AK, Flea and Chad get along with him.

Him: "I can't wait till they play Suck my Kiss!"
Me: "They won't play Suck My Kiss!"
John Frusciante: *Plays verse riff of Suck My Kiss*
Me:
RHCP: *play Suck My Kiss*
Me: *ejaculation*

but I was so happy about the setlist, loved every bit of it

John played Take It As It Comes? That's kickass!

Although, after seeing RHCP early in their Stadium Arcadium Tour and comparing it to this, the sets were quite different. Since Stadium Arcadium came out relatively close to when I saw them (august of '06) they didn't stray too far into the Stadium Arcadium songs, we got mainly "the hits": Dani California, Snow, Stadium Arcadium, Warlocks, and Charlie. Compare that to this set, where you heard So Much I and She's Only 18. They're pretty different.

I think I would have liked to hear She's Only 18 live.

It was awesome ;) .

Search youtube, I'm sure some Frenchy has put it up :p:.

If I had any criticisms of the show (and I'm really stretching here), it would be that they played Snow too slowly to allow Josh to play with them. Evidently, he can't play nearly as clean or as fast as John.

Did they play the main riff in unison? Man, I could see that turning into a mess :p

Also, to mix it up a bit, After listening again, I think I'm growing fonder of Californication. I'm really loving I Like Dirt. Great fucking song. I wish they'd play it live again.

Can't Stop
Around the World
Parallel Universe
Californication

Ok. Checklist for a RHCP Newbie.

Albums

- Blood Sugar Sex Magik
- By The Way
- Californication

...then if you really like these.

- Mother's Milk
- The Uplift Mofo Party Plan

...if you dig these too and feel you know some of their history and want to take a plunge

- One Hot Minute.

With these albums you'll be all set for beginning your path down into Chili Pepper love. But seriously, don't be afraid to come into this thread and ask for advice on the Peppers. There are plenty of us here who have so much knowledge on them. I'd rather not advise on specific songs as they work best IMHO together on one album.

But here are some good songs that the guy two posts above didnt have, that would be nice to have:

-Me and My Friends
-Backwoods
-Higher Ground

Those are their best older songs. Nice if you want to get into their 80s stuff.

-Aeroplane
-Breaking The Girl
More exclusive songs, but still good.
