actually in the angus young guitar legends magazine, angus said that malcolm was better (random fact: he wrote the main riff for back in black), but that malcolm couldnt keep up with playing lead because "it would interfere with his drinkin'"

Brad Whitford is who comes to my mind yay, two people who agree with me on this subject. Brad is the man. Great lead guitarist as well.

Keef is lead not rhythem.... Jones was rhythem... Ron is now rhythem When I saw the Stones, Ron played more lead than Keith. Also, Keith usually plays rhythm on the open G songs, with his 5 string tele :)

Indeed, do you know what songs he plays lead on on Rockin the Joint?

BrainDamage
10-17-2005, 06:24 PM
^^not really...I know he plays lead on Last Child, Lord of the Thighs, some Stop Messin Round, parts of Dream On, Back in the Saddle, probably Round and Round, and I think some more stuff on Rocks. Theres probably more that I don't know about.

Uncle Salty

That's cool, so pretty much the same as what was on You Gotta Move with some songs exclusive to rockin the joint

I'm really disappointed in Rockin the Joint. Apparently, the DVD portion includes nowhere near the whole show, which is a complete disappointment. 25 songs played that night, I think 6 from Toys in the Attic.

Malcolm is an obvious choice. Izzy is totally overlooked, he complimented Slash perfectly. I would mention Randy Rhoads, as I seem to do often. Keith is definitly the on the rhythm and Ron is on lead. But there's really no difference between rhythm and lead in the stones because they both play fills and solos and stuff simultaneously.

WRONG.

Keith was rhythm/general, Brian Jones was lead. Between them they wove a kind of chop-and-change dual guitar team. Officially, rhythm.

Then,

Keith was rhythm, Mick Taylor was lead. Mick Taylor was a virtuoso with a clear lead guitar role.

Then,

With Taylor gone and Wood on board, Keith stayed rhythm, Wood lead. Keith has said Wood is one of the most sympathetic lead guitarists he has ever worked with.

Thanks, I'll be here all night.

Wait,Townshend is a lead guitarist!

Townshends roots are in rhythm playing. As his career progressed, he began playing more lead lines, but he's most respected for his creative rhythm work.

Remember he was in a band with Keith Moon and John Entwhistle - Entwhistle being one of the most melodic bassists of his time and Moon being Moon.

So I'm more on-topic, too....

My favourite rhythm guitarist in classic rock is either Townshend, if that wasn't obvious already, Ray/Dave Davies of the Kinks, and Bob Weir.
