We all know Clapton, Satch, Vai, Hendrix, EVH, Hammet, Slash etc are the heroes of today, but who do you think will be the next round of gods?

My nominee would be Synester GAtes from Avenged Sevenfold, he has some majore talent.

Who do you nominate?

if john mayer stops dicking around and gets his game together i reckon he could be a bit of a force. there's a website where you can listen to some of his live blues stuff and its pretty damn good. anyone got the link?

Jeff Loomis from Nevermore is bad ass..all of his guitar work puts a alot of other guitarists to shame..

Christian Muenzner and Muhammed Suicmez from Necrophagist..Theyre really ****ing great...It makes me laugh when people actually try and learn theyre songs..If they ever found out that people actually try and learn them they would probably laugh at them for trying..but seriously..best of the best in my eyes..

John Mayer is a helluva blues player..but as stated before..if he stops dickin around he'll get somewhere..

I too am glad to see others realizing that Mayer is just that damn good. His new JM3 Live CD and you gotta hear OUT OF MY MIND... Good Love is on the Way is another damn good song... Every song is amazing with the exception of the new Daughters... While it is good, it should have been left off the cd.

There's a DVD coming out too!!

Thats ****ing retarded. Hendrix could not shred, he was sloppy. He was technically an inferior guitarist. He was not technically good for his time, Al Di Meola was around at the time, as were alot of other fusion pioneers.

And don't give me some **** about emotion. When you hear Vai play "Whispering a Prayer" in person then go and tell me he has no emotion.

Hendrix is overrated. Page too, regardless of how much I like him.

Son, are you ****ing retarded? First of all it's next guitar heros and Hendrix is dead.

Second of all, Hendrix can't outshred anyone, there's kids on these forums that would outshred his ass anyday. You moron. Hendrix was a very sloppy player as most people know, and the key ingredient to shredding is cleanliness. Sloppiness is shred's worst nightmare.

By the way, I think Hendrix is a great guitarist, but he isn't the shredding type.

When you hear Vai play "Whispering a Prayer" in person then go and tell me he has no emotion.

Why see him in person? If his music is emotional, recordings should be enough.

Shred sucks. Shred gets attention on this site only because there are so many pretentious wannabes who think that boring, self-indulgent guitar solos are the only part of music that matters. In real life, no one listens to Steve Vai.

I listen to blues, acoustic rock, and classical. I look for emotion when i listen to music. You sir are still a moron. YOU say that because you can't shred and are jealous, more than likely. But then again i may only be saying this because i can.

If in real life no one listened to steve vai that would mean no one on this site who listned to him wasnt a real person. If someone wins a race, and they explain it on the internet, it dont mean it aint in real life. It still has happened somehwere.

But thats not to say he's an incredibly popular guitarist. As far as being known, he is, amongts gutiarists.

Basically...ur still a tard.

Dude, I ain't gonna flip out because I know that little pricks like you enjoy getting the opposing side ticked off. I'm just gonna say that Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, and Goncalo Pereira all qualify as shredders. If you honestly believe each of these guitarists play with out emotion, I strongly suggest you checking out "Cry for You", "Desert Rose", "Bad Asteroid", "Flying in a Blue Dream", and "Sessao Geleia". You should be cured in no time.

John Mayer is a great blues/pop guitarist. You don't hafta be shreddin to be great. He's more along the lines of a Clapton type player.

There are a lot of talented guitarists out there, but they need to be seen. Yes the days of true "Guitar Hero's" are gone.

My nominee would be Synster. The kids 25, he's got so much to learn, so much time and he's already that good. Put him in the 70's and he's a peice of crap, but this ain't the 70's no more. Our music industry has gotten taken over by the likes of hip hop, rap, pop, and other crap.

Eric Johnson is like 52 now, so I wont say he's the next guitar hero. John Mayer is damn good, ever since I watched him at Crossroads guitar festival, i have enjoyed his music. BUT, I think the next guitar hero, or at least blues hero that isn't too bad at guitar would be Jonny Lang, even though his guitar playing isn't the best.

i think that a guitar heroe is not actually a guitar virtuoso, but unique and really passionate.

omar from mars volta,
jack black and kyle gass. yep-
and also guthrie govan, yep, that man knows his stuff.

^ Matt Bellamy is already a guitar hero

I agree but if they say the others in that list aren't yet then they probably don't think Bellamy is either.

Nick from Tera Melos (http://www.myspace.com/teramelos) is my guitar hero, but a guitar hero, I don't know, because he and his band is not really well known, and never will be really, because the world sucks like that. :P Dave from Maps & Atlases (http://www.myspace.com/mapsandatlases) as well.

Although I don't really look up to them at all (besides Claudio), I agree that these are the guitar gods of today:
Jack White
Claudio Sanchez
John Frusciante
Tom Morello
John Mayer
Alexi Laiho
...I'm just adding to this list as I remember haha.

Those are the dudes we'll be remembered for. There's probably others, but I can't be arsed to remember.

*overrated guitarist* from *overrated band*. His usage of pentatonic scales in his solos and some melodic bending is very original and fresh. He's nothing like *old, once innovative guitar heroes that have been copied to death*

in all honestly, Jeff Loomis is as guitar hero as you can get. It's just too bad that Nevermore's style of music will ever receive the attention it deserves.

Skwisgaar Skwigelf and Toki Wartooth.

Both very talented.

Not got much recognition as guitarists yet, maybe they will when Dethklok's album comes out.

And i agree with Jeff Loomis, that guy is just amazing.
His sweep picking is Godly.

Herman Li is starting to get the recognition, even though i think Sam should get more too.

Muhammed from Necrophagist has mad skillzzz too, so i reckon he'll go far

Bumblefoot needs to be the next guitar hero.

He is the greatest thing to happen to guitar since Tom Morello.

Guitar heros are innovative right? most of the mentions are metal guys who just sweep pick and play 16157nps, they don't do anything original and just copy others.

no ones said John Fruciante yet

He's a legend and guitar hero already, so that's probably why.

I'd definitely say Mayer. He has some pretty mean chops and is a creative song writer.

Thomas Erak from tFoT most definitely.

Teppei Taranashi, guitar player from Thrice, has some pretty wicked chops but chooses to write good music rather than shred the entire time.

I think...

Mark Tremonti and Tom Morello. Some of Morellos solos in Audioslave sounded out of place but I have to admit they were good. And Mark Tremonti can shred pretty fast and be melodic at the same time, and he comes up with my favorite riffs.

I gotta say Herman Li and Sam Totman from Dragon Force. I just discovered that band recently and I was blown away. They are supeb.

there are all these people saying omar rodriguez lopez from the mars volta. i don't think it will happen, just because you either love him or hate him. there is no middle ground. i, personally love him, but there are plenty of people out there who will never like TMV.

roythereaper

Herman Li and Sam Totman's main driving force is their speed... I don't (personally) rate them as being a guitar players guitarist...

I like to think Guthrie Govan will eventually be recognised as a guitar virtuoso more widely, though.

Those guys from Jet are both pretty awesome-badass riffs at least. Not enough soloing. There names are Nic Cester and Cameron Muncey.
Also, Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother is really amazing. Awesome riffs.
The guy from Mars Volta.
Derek Trucks, though he's been around for a while. Derek, it's time to rise up and retake the charts from pop and all the **** they call "rock" nowadays.
Oh, and John Mayer, if he would play stuff like what's on the Try! live album. He could potentially bring straight up blues back again.

So, there you go

Oh, I almost forgot-
I will also be the next guitar god. You will all bow before me.

Just kidding.

Thomas Erak from Fall Of Troy, he writes some cool stuff and they way he play with effects is pretty cool. He may not be the best technically but i like him

Moose45

Syn Gates is not good. Sure, recordings go well, but they record probably 1000 cuts for one song...If you think he will learn a lot and be all good...nope. Gates will probably die by 32 from massive Drug OD's. [/rant]

well anyway. I nominate Jon Kitna. Just cuz I kinda know him. He plays from Diecast, and he's basically a rad dude.

Oh god..hmm...Thomas Erak would certainly be one of my first choices then again there's Tom Morello, who I am not sure if he's a guitar hero yet but is certainly on his way. Satch is usually ignored, Hammett gets all his steam. But there are countless amazing guitarists out there.

[QUOTE=mackdaddy]We all know Clapton, Satch, Vai, Hendrix, EVH, Hammet, Slash etc are the heroes of today, but who do you think will be the next round of gods?

My nominee would be Synester GAtes from Avenged Sevenfold, he has some majore talent.
