either gibson les paul or fender strat. to me, its the fender strat cuz its easily recognizable. the guitar is an american icon

I would have to say it would be a tie between a Les Paul or SG and a Strat. All the Greats in CR used a Les Paul, SG, or Strat.

les paul sooo many people use em

just because so many people use em doesn't mean that its the best guitar....if everyone was jumping off bridges..then that would definately be the best thing to do right???

I think it all comes down to personal preferece, and the type of sound you wanna get. Personally i like the Stratocaster the best.

well for me the Ultimate Rock Guitar would be a butterscotch tele delux with black pick guard. or a black flying vee with a mirror pickguard. or a white les paul. im in love with white lespausl. sigh.

GBMan

We're talking about classic rock - I'd say the EB MM series if it wasn't. Definately the Strat. Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, SRV.....definately the Strat...

Those are all pretty crapy, but the worst of them our the SG and the Les Pauls, the most over rated pieces of **** in music, they suck, they have limited frets, terrible movibility, they are just crappy.

It's almost a tie between LP and Strat, but I go for LP since that is what the guitarist in my band uses!

Yes George was the one to popularize the 12 string he played it on Eight Days A Week and inspired Roger McGuinn to pick one up.

they should all take some pointers from the CR army

me_and_my_esp
11-05-2005, 11:55 PM
i like Jet, White Stripes, etc, but lets get on topic ;)

out of the choices given, i do think the Les Paul is the ultimate Rock Guitar, cause its so useable throughout the genre, cause it can be used in hard rock, blues, blues rock, basicly everything Classic Rock is. a Strat is the best for blues, and some heavier stuff, but not much else, IMO. but Rics can be used for everything

AdayTripper
11-05-2005, 11:57 PM
Yes of course.
Well ummm....Les Paul again.

Well, in the poll, I'd have to say either a Gibson Flying V or a Les Paul, but I'd go for any Gibson.

Fenders just don't do it for me. The tone is too thin for my taste and I hate the shape of the body. And I hate the necks, I'm practically wringing the thing when I play one.

jayr123guitar

i love Strats!! as well as the necks! for my style, its easier to play on a strat's neck, though i do like a Les Pauls body and tone.. but still! meh, oh well, what ever floats your boat

Well I cant find one I really like, and with all these Green Day fans and Rap fans around I cant really get into modern music. If I may suggest a modern rock band with a very classic rock sound- The Black Crowes. Those guys rock.

I find that Strats are better for soloing, not rhythm. And I'm a rhythm player. That's why I don't like them much.

for the ultimate classic rock guitar I think it would have to be the strat... I mean... to me that epitimoizes the image of an electric guitar.

Even if I don't like 'em...

Hmm I think the best guitar ever created is the Fender Tele. The first and the best. I specifically love the Deluxe Tele :liplick: You can almost get a les Paul tone outta that one!

http://justplaymusic.com/os/images/Gufdat.jpg

Yumm.... To bad I don't own it.. but I will. Currently I have a Standard NON AMERICAN Satin Strat. and Ive only recently started to love it and I am able to get a great rang of tones from it.

This is my guitar only mine has a rosewood neck:

no ones mentioned Gretsch?! harrison, young, and many others used these kick ass axes. and the bigsby tremolo on them makes it by far one of the sickest guitars out there. and by the way, the duo jet came out back in the 50's and was more popular than the les paul during the early years, so they're not just a gibson knockoff

Thats true, Gretsch guitars are very nice. Great sound, nice and thick. One of the reasons I love AC/DC.

I g2 go with the 2 fenders or les paul because I had a friend who said that his squier had better sound that his Les Paul but I could be wrong.
But having the pleasure of playing with a les paul standard it's like magic!

unkabonka
01-04-2006, 12:21 PM
Les Paul vs. Strat is ironic because by the late 60's one was out of production and the other not that popular... you have Hendrix to thank for the new popularity of the Stat and Clapton for the reintroducing of the Les Paul... hmph but then he saw Hendrix's use of the Strat and changed axes himself!

You say that, yet you go on about the Flying V? Possibly the single most fallus-shaped guitar made? *sniff* Smell that? Smells like an ignorant, uneducated hypocrite.

Anyway, Rock is very highly associated with the Les Paul AND the Strat. What's the "ultimate rock guitar"? Who cares? It depends on the style/form of rock you are playing. They don't make a single one guitar to cover them all.
