Name rings a big bell, but I don't think I've heard her music.

The song is called Post Modern Girls or something, ive got it from itunes

I've only heard "Poor Little Rich Boy", it's refreshing and I like it pretty well but I don't think it's the kind of thing I'd run out and get; definitely one of those bargain bin/ find it cheap situations for me.

11-17-2005, 01:25 AM
The song "Us" is pretty damn good. Its like Alanis meets Bjork meets Randy Newman. Check it!

11-17-2005, 06:32 AM
Regina Spektor has the nicest voice and i love her style. I especially love the song.. Us.

11-21-2005, 06:13 AM
such a beautiful ****ing song.
screw anyone who hasn't heard regina.

11-21-2005, 06:29 AM
Pretty good that, Impressive list of influences.

If you like her i reccommend Imogen Heap & Laura Veirs.

My friend lent me "Mary Ann and the Gravediggers and other short stories by Regina Spektor".

I love it, espically Sailor Song, "Mary Ann's a bitch..."

07-16-2006, 05:13 PM
The Strokes song she did was Modern Girls and Old Fashioned Men, it was a b-side off a ROF single. Nick from the Strokes is on one or two of the tracks on her new CD as well. I like some of her stuff.

07-16-2006, 05:16 PM
Thanks for saying that, the same friend who lent me the CD lent me a Strokes CD with Rarities and B-sides and stuff on it a year ago, and I believe I have Modern Girls and Old Fashioned Men. I had forgotten about that...

11-19-2006, 09:11 PM
hotel song pwns my pants off. i think she's incredible. i love her original style.

11-19-2006, 09:23 PM
She is pretty awesome...although her new cd is kinda poppy for me, I mostly like it when she goes into her little quirky moments

11-19-2006, 11:41 PM
I've been listening to her nonstop for about half a year and still going strong. Soviet Kitsch has it for me, including the one or two (what I call) "throwaway" songs on it.

I can't really say enough about her songwriting not to mention the execution. I find her so outstanding.

11-20-2006, 01:55 PM
I'm going to marry her.

Her music is brilliant. Samson is (and I don't use this word often) beautiful. I just love is when her voice goes all high- Like in the song 'Oedipus' when she says 'thirty-twooooo', and it sends shivers down my spine.

Other good songs are Fidelity, Us, and the Flowers.

Our wedding is in April next year if you want to come. :D

11-20-2006, 02:43 PM
So I take it I should mos def get something other than Begin to Hope?

I mean, it's cool, but her other stuff is better rigtht?

11-20-2006, 04:55 PM
^I'd suggest a little Soviet Kitsch

Somehow, I relate the bridge from Regina's Soviet to Begin To Hope and Cat Power's You Are Free to The Greatest: not quite a disappointment or anything, just doesn't push the bar up much higher.

11-23-2006, 12:55 PM
Regina Spektor is the single greatest vocalist of our time.

Fidelity is amazing but what first got me caught on her was Sampson. the original demo version kills the album version.

I need to see her live though thats one thing I haven't been able to do yet.

11-23-2006, 04:57 PM
i'm in love with her

the album songs is my favorite of hers, it's before she started experimenting with other instruments, so it's only voice and piano. and the occasional clap and drumstick. i think it's up for download on her website, or something like that, i don't know.

12-13-2006, 01:25 AM
^I'd suggest a little Soviet Kitsch

Dude, fucking respekt, you know what I'm saying, I loooooooove Ms Spektor now.
And that's only off one listen off Soviet Kitsch.
I still have 11:11 on my ipod to listen to.

12-13-2006, 09:33 PM
Discovered her just 3 months ago, I am literally in love with her. She's awesome.

12-19-2006, 09:13 PM
i'm in love with her too. everyone's in love with her. omg :(

sorry phantom... I love her too :(

Soviet Kitsch is a ****ing beautiful album, pick it up now.

12-19-2006, 10:20 PM
Okay, so I have four of her albums, what else am I missing?

Any demos and unreleased stuff websites I can visit or anything?

12-19-2006, 11:25 PM
tengo la misma pregunta...

12-19-2006, 11:36 PM
Okay, so I found this:

It has abunch of songs that were recorded live but it's all in blog style and whatnot, so it's kinda annoying to go through.

edit: Ta-da!:

And I was hoping some of the songs wouldn't be live but actually studio but whatever..

I haven't checked the songs out so I don't know the quality or anything.

12-21-2006, 12:15 PM
She is INCREDIBLE. I really mean it, I've walked all the way from the Hardcore and Metal forums just to find a thread on her and post in it.

Her live videos on Youtube are amongst the best I've ever seen. I'm gonna see her in Newcastle.

12-24-2006, 07:14 AM
Fidelity is one of the best songs ever. I really do love it! But I haven't heard that much else of her stuff... But the bit I have hasn't blown my mind...

06-25-2007, 11:47 AM
Yes, she is quite awesome. Great voice! A friend of mine turned me onto her and another artist, Terra Naomi (

Anyone else like her as well? Any other recommendations based on Regina?

06-25-2007, 05:05 PM
Regina is awesome. I'm open to suggestions anyone has for similar artists.

06-25-2007, 06:09 PM
Braille does it for me, 'she hadn't been a virgin and he hadn't been a god' always sends a chill down throuyight.

Caustic, The Dresden Dolls and Joanna Newsom are two that spring to mind for me...:)

06-25-2007, 06:11 PM
Anyone who doesn't like Regina Spektor is a fag. There, I said it.

I have the most recent album, and that's it, but I love it dearly.

06-25-2007, 06:20 PM
Caustic, The Dresden Dolls and Joanna Newsom are two that spring to mind for me...:)

Ahh, already love the 'Dolls. I've heard Newsoms name knocking around before, must investigate.

06-25-2007, 06:25 PM
I saw both the 'Dolls and Spektor weeks apart, both cracking gigs, the Dolls had a bunch of people in jump suits playing stomp-style in the middle of the venue, an acrobat on a rope, dancing zombies and the mindblowing Devotchka supporting. That's a gig that'll stick in my mind!

Newsom sounds nothing like Regina, but at the same time you'll listen and see where i'm coming from. Try Fiona Apple, Katy Williams (sp?) and Cat Power as well.

06-25-2007, 08:34 PM
Heard of her. Heard her. Not a fan. I never want to hear "You don't have a boy, you don't have a boy boy boy..." ever again.

06-26-2007, 11:23 AM
Regina is awesome. I'm open to suggestions anyone has for similar artists.

I believe I have said it before but....

Terra Naomi (

Also check out her "award winning" video ( on YouTube.

06-26-2007, 07:13 PM
Great! I'd love to see a show sometime.

06-26-2007, 07:34 PM
Soviet Kitsch is a classic in my eyes. Her lyrics and voice are totally beautiful. Such a good musician.

06-26-2007, 07:37 PM
she is a very talent muscian...she is a great song writer but a amazing singer

03-30-2008, 03:31 AM
she's definitely original, but i couldn't listen to that all the time..

03-30-2008, 07:31 PM
I cannot find the song blue lips and its my fav of hers, she hasnt recorded it and only plays it live, anyone find it ever??

04-01-2008, 04:36 PM
 Regina. She's so unique and makes such interesting music. I've got Soviet Kitsch and Begin to Hope. I love all her songs, but if I had to pick a favorite, it'd probably be "Your Honor."

04-01-2008, 05:24 PM
I've got the deluxe edition of Begin to Hope and I love it. "Fidelity" and "On the Radio" are prehaps the two best pop singles released this decade that aren't by M.I.A.

04-04-2008, 09:36 PM

just wow.....

08-15-2008, 09:48 PM
god... this is so dead...

and... regina is pure genius

08-15-2008, 09:56 PM
Thanks for reviving it. :p:

Anyone else hear the new Ben Folds' single? She does guest vocals on it: You Don't Know Me ( The song is kind of meh but it would be nothing without her. :p:

08-15-2008, 10:48 PM
I got Soviet Kitsch since I last posted, and I like it even more than Begin to Hope. It's so intimate.

08-15-2008, 10:50 PM

Yeah, Begin to Hope is a good introduction to her, but Soviet Kitsch is definitely a better album. But it's a little too "out there" to just jump right into, which is why BtH is good.

08-16-2008, 08:25 AM
Soviet Kitsch is probably in my top ten albums of all time. She's amazing.

08-17-2008, 03:02 PM
Can't believe I'd almost forgot about her when I saw this thread, I haven't listened to any of her songs in a while, think I'll do that now...Us is an amazing song, just had to say..

10-07-2009, 01:31 AM
Went to her show tonight. Really amazing performance.

Went with my girlfriend. "Us" is one of our favorite songs, and she played it in her encore. We just held each other and sang the song.

One of my Top 10 greatest moments ever. :)

10-07-2009, 11:29 AM
^Sweet. I've not heard Far yet. I'll need ot get round to that.

10-11-2009, 11:34 PM
I am indifferent to modern music so im kinda indifferent to her. If only she emerged like 10 years ago I would definetly travel the earth just to hear her sing. Shes got the best voice.

07-10-2010, 10:32 AM
^Good music is good music...and this is good music. Sorry, that post just irked me completely. Anyways, yes, she might just have the most beautiful voice that I've heard in my life. I'm listening to Soviet Kitsch right now and figured that I'd revive this thread really quick. Is Far worth a listen?

07-10-2010, 12:57 PM
Far is absolutely worth a listen. It's not as wild and wacky as Soviet Kitsch or something, but it's still an incredibly rewarding album.

Also, I got to see Regina in November, and it was absolutely the best show I've ever attended.

07-16-2010, 09:43 AM
I love Hero. That's the only song of hers I know, and I heard it on 500 days of summer. I am not ashamed.

07-31-2010, 02:55 PM
regina spektor is absolutely amazing.
I love Us, Chemo Limo, Raindrops, Blue Lips, Ode to Divorce.....[:

06-01-2011, 11:22 AM
Gah, I love this music so much. Chemo Limo in particular.

11-03-2012, 09:35 PM
Bump again because the new album is also lovely.

11-03-2012, 11:39 PM
I do like her new album.

11-03-2012, 11:44 PM
I met her two weeks ago. She is the tiniest person. She is super sweet. I'm going to the same college and program as her, nbd. She is so incredible live. Her new album is magnificent. Can't believe the runs she nailed.

Gah. I love her.
