05-29-2006, 06:14 PM
Seeing a live performance of black sabbath play paranoid. MINDBLOWING.

05-29-2006, 07:13 PM
i heard smells like teen spirit on the radio for the first time and i was like wow i wish i could play that..get a croud jumping and be able to generate that kind of energy..but i thought guitar was like impossible so i didnt try to learn it and i didnt know about tabs. my cuzin then got an acoustic and we were trying to figure out how to play 7 nation army (lol) and i relised it wasnt that impossible to play a guitar so i picked up my dads when i got hoem and figured it out after a while

05-29-2006, 10:05 PM
Right when I picked up the Jimi Hendrix Eperience Greatest Hits i was stunned. Jimi is a God

05-30-2006, 08:01 AM
My older bro played "Nothing Else Matters" and then I got into Metallica and started to rock on since!

05-30-2006, 07:09 PM
Well... Im really embarased to say this, but pre- guitar, I listened to Rap (haha) So nothing or noone inspired me... i just kind of picked it up.

05-31-2006, 10:30 AM
bryan adams inspired me to like rock, and van halen inspired me to play rock.

I listen to more metal stuff (Metallica, DT, etc.), classic rock (Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, The Who, that stuff) as well as any guitar virtuosos (Satch, Vai, Van Halen still, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.) and the occaisional power pop band. (no matter what else I listen to, I will always enjoy Weezer) now, but I still like those 2 bands. Special place in my memory...

05-31-2006, 10:36 AM
led zepellin got me into tryin to play at a virtuoso level (which i'm gettin close to, but still miles away from. sweepin is a biatch).
rage against the machine was my original obsession around 6-7 years ago, but i've been playing for 12. lets just say, the first few years werent very productive

05-31-2006, 10:37 AM
No band got me interested to rock.
It was t3h h0tt female 40 year old groupies.
I like 'em experienced.

well, it's gonna take a long time before you get groupies. Some stupid excuse.

"It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll!" - AC/DC

06-01-2006, 09:44 AM
Sum 41, Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park

06-01-2006, 02:22 PM
for me the reason i picked up a guitar is all because of the killer riffs and unmistakable sound that acdc produced for so many years.heck i'm only 14 and i've never even seen them live and they still influence me

06-01-2006, 02:25 PM
the two biggest inspirations on my guitar playing have been Daron Malakian of System Of A Down for his melodic and heavy riffs, and Bryan Adams for being the greatest Canadaian guitarist alive a living legend

06-01-2006, 06:36 PM
so many bands inspired me... the top 5 in order are;
1. Motley Crue (Mick Mars is so god dammed amazing at guitar and the fact that he has spondlosing ankylosis and is still rockin at 50 impresses me and makes me wanna be jsut like him and how he just wants to play guitar in Motley Crue and everyone else in the band just gives it their all)
2. Metallica (James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton, Jason Newstead, and I forget the other guys name since I dont listen to the new Metallica, they all showed me what music and playing means)
3. Ozzy Osbourne (Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Randy Costello, Jake E. Lee and of course Ozzy himself inspired me so much, especially Randy Rhoads how he wanted to just play his music and nothing else)
4. Pantera (Three words.... Dimebag Darrell Abbot)(R.I.P. we wont forget you)
5. Disturbed (Dan Donegan is amazing at guitar and David Draiman has damn near the best voice Ive ever heard and Mike Wengren is awsome at drumming!)

06-02-2006, 04:24 PM
nirvana or AIC

06-02-2006, 07:02 PM
ohhh..definately led zeppelin. i remember listening to tangerine and i was like....holy cow i need a guitar. :D also it was when i listened to the Wall by Pink Floyd and the first time i heard comfortably numb and is there anybody out there...i was like...wow

06-02-2006, 10:02 PM
Originaly AC/DC during the shift into Classic Rock for me, but evolved into Motley Crue and Aerosmith.

06-02-2006, 11:12 PM
I was watching a snowboarding video and there was a Mad Caddies song in the opening credits and thought i was so cool. so i begged my parents for a guitar. after that i lost intrest then i heard the alterbridge song "open your eyes" on the radio and the solo blew me away and now im rocking again and dont plan on losing intrest again.

06-03-2006, 02:25 AM
I wanted to play guitar when I heard led zeppelin, but I thought it would be impossible to play as good as Jimmy Page. What got me started was Nirvana.

06-03-2006, 07:11 AM
Sum 41, Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park

I laugh

06-03-2006, 05:02 PM

06-05-2006, 06:29 PM
God I feel so OLD after reading through this thread....I'm so old school real lead breaks and killer dueling guitars (sorry kidz, slammin' 6 power chords real fast is NOT lead guitar...)

Actually, aside from the Stones and Duane Allman, it was actually a band I saw at a local teen center in 1968...bunch of punk kids who stuck with it til they FINALLY got signed by Arista records in 1975...the Outlaws.

Hughie Thomasson & Billy Jones' dueling guitars and intense vocal harmonies...man I wish I could play like that. The Spark and the Flame.

RIP Billy

They inspired me but I never got off my ass to do anything about it til I saw a friend of mine from my high school guitar class makin' young boys stare openmouthed at his guitar playing and and girls stop talkin' and WATCH the band...not big stars (YET) just a band from Orlando, The Wynn Brothers Band. (see em on myspace). Thanks Uncle Leroy--you kick ass!

AC/DC Live at donington was my first rock album. Back in Black blew the crappy emo rock out of my system for good. then the immortal Led Zeppelin! followed by Jimi and Clapton and then everything.

06-11-2006, 12:11 AM
I hate to say this but it was The White Stripes.

b.c.rich rules
06-11-2006, 04:18 PM
The band that really got me into rock was linkin park (thats why they are my logo thingy). They were so out there, combining rap and rock and making it sound good.

06-12-2006, 12:48 AM
The Ramones, without a doubt.

06-12-2006, 01:10 AM
eh. it's really hard for me to pick out who inspired me to rock, considering music's been such a huge part of my life since before I could even remember my memories.

06-12-2006, 02:25 PM
As cliche as it sounds, Led Zeppelin inspired me to rock. When I saw The Song Remains the Same for the first time, I knew that I wanted to be like those guys.

06-12-2006, 10:45 PM
good charlottes BENJI MADDEN inspierd me to play guitar.Ihave this pic of benji playin his guitar hangin up next to my guitar and whaen i feel like givinup ill just look at that pic and ill get a great boost of energy and confidenc! so i thank benji madden(THANX)

06-18-2006, 11:03 PM
kinda hate 2 say it, but i loved KISS when i was just a baby, but i got really serious when i heard marilyn manson, then the first song i ever learned was Chevelles: Send the pain Below when it first came out and my friend was playin it, i was finally in luv.

06-20-2006, 12:55 AM
Led Zeppelin

06-20-2006, 04:28 PM
Greenday. I'd had a guitar for a couple of months but not touched it cos I had no idea what to do with it. I saw the american idiot video and thought guitar was cool so i spent the next month learning to play and the next three learning the american idiot album. I listen continuously to chilis now though as the riffs are so cool.

06-21-2006, 06:32 AM

because of their stage presence thru their music.

Now I combine level 10 stage presence and virtuosic playing.

06-21-2006, 06:31 PM
Nirvana was the band that made me decide, I want to play guitar. Then I listened to Zeppelin nd then I found a complete reason to play.

06-24-2006, 12:55 AM
Bright Eyes...Yeah I know, not exactly rock out material.

06-26-2006, 03:32 PM

06-28-2006, 12:06 PM
I really got turned onto guitar when i was to young to remember, my dad being an 80's redneck cranked out AC/DC and Angus's guitar got me hooked, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bush were the ones that made me say, damn i want a guitar.

06-28-2006, 12:07 PM
Rage Against the Machine. I watched a live version of Guerilla Radio...good times.

But i'd always wanted a guitar, this just made me want one enough to actually save up.

06-29-2006, 12:05 AM
Silverstein man there guitar player is sick!!!!!!!!!! HOLY $#!^

06-29-2006, 10:21 AM
I would have to say Metallica - Enter Sandman but once I heard all their other songs I would Fade to Black would be my favourite. The music to that song is incredible.

06-29-2006, 11:28 AM
i listened to a local band play, that made me listen to sum heavier sh.it, then i heard unholy confessions by A7X, that made get my uncle's old guitar out and start screwing around on it, then i started getting good

06-29-2006, 06:48 PM

06-29-2006, 06:59 PM
I would have to say Ozzy Osbourne, mainly cause of Randy Rhoads' playing of course.

06-29-2006, 07:16 PM

07-11-2006, 01:55 PM

07-11-2006, 11:21 PM
Dire Straits lol

I used to watch their live concert and then air guitar along with Mark Knopfler, and then I was like screw this I'ma learn Romeo and Juliet for my gf. A few days later I had learned some of Private Investigations (horribly wrong btw) and I was like, wow this is harder than I thought. Still can't play Romeo and Juliet like Mark either...he's one crazy guy...damn him...

07-14-2006, 09:20 PM
Little different than most peoples':

I first got my acoustic guitar because of Neutral Milk Hotel and their album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.

I got my electric 4 months later becuase of (odd combo) Issac Brock of Modest Mouse and Jimi Hendrix

I didn't get into Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, or Led Zeppelin until after I bought my electric, before that I was into more acoustic stuff, like Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan, also reasons why I first got my acoustic

So there you go.

07-14-2006, 11:32 PM
Led Zeppelin was what made me want to play guitar after hearing "Black Dog" i knew i must try this instrument. then Korn and SOAD got me to get off my ass and play heavier stuff. Metallica and all those others never really influenced me to play. to me it all sounded the same....well only metallica. they always sound the same. i never was a huge fan of metallica. all the songs either A.Sound like the same chord progression x10000 or B.Just plain suck

07-14-2006, 11:34 PM
Metalica and Led Zeppelin.

07-16-2006, 09:51 PM
I basically started on classic rock, but my friends got me hooked on slipknot which really got me into other metal bands.

07-16-2006, 10:34 PM
And Tony Iommi (sabbath)

07-17-2006, 06:08 AM
carlos santana started me on the guitar and when love is only a feeling came out i and i heard the darkness i wanted an electric.... bad

Black Hole Sun
07-17-2006, 07:53 AM
It was actually around 2 or 3 years before I started playing, but just listening to Hendrix made me want to learn.

07-17-2006, 11:32 AM
The first band that made me want to play guitar was Blue Oyster Cult, but long before that Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler made me buy a bass guitar, and I'd still rather play that.

I got my electric 4 months later becuase of (odd combo) Issac Brock of Modest Mouse and Jimi Hendrix

Modest Mouse Rocks!

07-17-2006, 09:13 PM
JIMI HENDRIX!!!!! HE'S GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(and my religion is rock) :headbang:

ace man
07-17-2006, 09:43 PM
AC/DC mainly, with some aerosmith and stones in there aswell. as soon as i heard riff raff for the first time i was like 'damn dude, i wanna play that' and now i can

07-17-2006, 11:01 PM

07-19-2006, 12:52 AM
The song Escape From Hellview by cKy

07-19-2006, 12:55 AM
When I was 13 I was obsessed with Steven Tyler and started listening to Aerosmith all the time...this made me pick up a guitar and learn all their songs.

07-19-2006, 12:58 AM
the band that inspired me to buy my electric guitar was Drake Bell he's not that famous yet but he still rocks

07-19-2006, 11:23 AM
rhcp- jf

dave matthews songs on acoustic... very unique caught my attention

07-19-2006, 12:23 PM
well, in 2003 i remember getting the maiden greatest hits. But i was like ill neva be able to play like that. Then i got sabbaths first album, but i found out iommi had no fingertips and that made me annoyed. Then i saw the darkness. Then i got a guitar, but didnt play it much. Then i went to a local jam night and thought, i wanna do that. Now i can play fairly well. So the lesson here is: The Darkness and local jamnights ROCK

I Walk Alone
07-19-2006, 01:17 PM
I know it's sad, but Linkin Park made me want to start playing guitar. After my teacher started recommending music to me, then I got into the classics like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zepp, but the artist who's kept me motivated to keep playing is Slash. He's stuck to the real path of rock and metal and showed me what it takes to make it in music and what rewards you get in the end.

07-20-2006, 07:14 PM
well a long time when i was getting into older bands, i picked up my parents aerosmith greatest hits and i listend to both cds and listening to joe perry and brad witford just inspired me to pick up a guitar. joe perry has been my idol ever since then.
some of steven tylers harmonica solos also triggered me to start playing harmonica too.

07-20-2006, 11:00 PM
ACDC, Guns N Roses, Metalica, Led Zeppelin and Def Leppard :headbang:

07-21-2006, 02:20 PM

07-24-2006, 06:18 AM
Loads of bands mdae me want to rock. Led Zeppelin, SOAD, Nirvana, The Stranglers, The Clash, The White Stripes...

07-24-2006, 06:28 AM
Buckethead inspired me to rock :P. When i heard a solo of his on youtube i was amazed. Lovin him ever since.

07-25-2006, 08:31 AM

07-29-2006, 08:35 PM
Aerosmith was my first obsession in rock, but I didn't really progress untill I discovered Zeppelin and from there I started listening to all the rock bands that have made me the person (musically) who I am today.

08-04-2006, 12:57 PM
Three words: Stiff Little Fingers. They are an awesome awesome band. Their music might not consist of 3 minute guitar solos or ridiculous amounts of effects but they know how to rock and they do it (Even at the age of 50 something). They are the ultimate live band. Not only is their music an inspiratioinal collection of punk rock classics but their beliefs and the stuff they have the balls to sing about is what makes them different. That is rock. That is why I was inspired to rock.

Also, contrary to popular belief, Green Day do rock. Their old material definitely more so than the new stuff but they have energy and style (musically that is, please drop the eyeliner Billie). The same issue pops up here as with Fingers; they have the balls to sing about whatever they want.

Blend these two together then you have the reason i wanna rock. Amazing lyrics and musical equality within the band from Fingers, and f*cking endless madness and energy from Green Day. That is what inspires me.

08-04-2006, 03:27 PM
Eric Clapton and Cream, Pink Floyd, Queen, RHCP, Feeder, and The Who.

08-04-2006, 10:14 PM
I think it was Slipknot......Either them or Staind.

08-04-2006, 10:16 PM
The Who, without a doubt. I started because of Led Zeppelin but kinda ignored guitar for a while, then remembered how much I worshipped the Who when i was younger and got back into them and the rest is almost history. :headbang:

08-04-2006, 10:47 PM
Creed. Yes, I know a lot of people will bash me for that, but hearing "Higher" back in '99 helped to get me into rock(most types of it), specifically bands like Zeppelin etc.

08-04-2006, 10:48 PM
Hmm...Fall of Troy, A7X, Atreyu and A Fire Inside

I found that between my friend and Led Zeppelin they inspired me alot to become a rocker, then once me and my friend got alot into Ac/Dc and Sabbath, it really inspired me alot, and now i only play such genre of music.

08-05-2006, 11:04 AM

Same here man :wavey: . Green day inspiried me first then dead kennedys. I only recently started listening to SLF but theyre ****in great.

08-07-2006, 11:04 AM
rhandy rhodes from ozzy inspired me to play.

08-07-2006, 11:18 AM
The solo from Slither by Velvet Revolover. I remember hearing that solo and thinking what is that even a guitar making that noise? how do they do that?

08-07-2006, 12:44 PM
I would say Clapton above all. But he was helped to inspire me by Pink Floyd, The Who, The Dire Straits, Aerosmith, Bill Bailey ( :headbang: ), Queen, RHCP, Status Quo, Tenacious D, and Feeder.

Korn was the first band i really got into and i guess i just became obsessed with music after that and it was just a natural thing for me to start making my own.that all started back when i was 13.man,i can't even remember what it was like then.

08-09-2006, 02:08 PM
i heard stevie ray vaughan - Pride and Joy

08-11-2006, 12:14 AM
Well, if I had to pick a particular moment that inspired me to play guitar, it's something that is probably dissimilar to most people's moments that inspired them to pick up an axe and melt faces (a lot of people say Metallica and Van Halen - standard "revolutionary" bands). However, the moment I found myself really wanting to play guitar was my first time hearing the chorus of Tool's "You Lied" - nothing like those big booming dropped-D power chords to make you want to rock.

08-27-2006, 11:52 PM
After seeing Def Leppard in concert, I had to buy a guitar!!

Whats the story
08-28-2006, 12:54 PM

09-02-2006, 12:22 PM
there just one Band that is inspiring me!

09-02-2006, 12:55 PM
 Guns N' Roses  !! I was browsing in my Dad's CDs when I was just 10 and saw this CD of Guns N' Roses (I thought this is some kind of Enigma Sh*t, although I like them and respect them and no offence to all) and the CD was one of the CDs "Use your Illusion II".. and there was "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" on track 4, I thought to myself this is some crapy old country song.. (little did I know that it will change my life, when the track was over). I heard it and said " Oh My God, what a band" and from that day onwards I dedicated my life to Rock, although I started playing guitar earlier, Guns N' Roses inspired me to play rock, i've been playing for 6 years now and had several bands and success and now I'm 16.

Sorry for the long story lol

09-02-2006, 04:07 PM
OFFSPRING!!!! they rule!!

09-02-2006, 05:21 PM
No, Band, Juss one man, My dad, The Greatest Musician in My Life

I agree! When I was little my dad would play guitar around campfires and I always wanted to learn. Finally have.

09-02-2006, 07:29 PM
RHCP for me; my cousin wanted to see if I could easily transition from Arabic Lute to guitar, so he's like "Here- play this song, it's called Can't Stop." Within a few mins, I was kinda playing it and was thinking to myself "holy crap I can actually do this." The rest is history.

09-02-2006, 07:37 PM
Mars Volta. I've always been enthralled in Omar's unique style of guitar playing...and any band that can make completely original music that sounds like nothing anyone's ever heard before...well...they have my respect, that's for damn sure.

09-03-2006, 10:11 AM
Queen and the Beatles.

09-03-2006, 12:10 PM
i dont rock. i am a righteous yet melodic funk extremist inspired heavily by early chilis, jaco pastorius, and john frusciante (vocals wise)

09-03-2006, 01:07 PM
Metallica, they were the first rock band I've listened to, I still think they're awesome.

09-04-2006, 01:56 AM
yeah it was the red hot chili peppers for me. i heard by the way (the song) and i was blown away! then i bought californication (album) and really got into the band. after that i bought BSSM and yeah the rest was history.

09-06-2006, 12:02 AM
Sadly Limp Bizkit, but I listen to Slipknot who would kill Limp anyday

09-06-2006, 07:01 AM
I would say Guns N Roses, Metallica, Led Zeppelin and Oasis. My bro had their CDs and he used to blast them out really loud. I can still sing out their songs after 10 years without listening to them.

09-06-2006, 05:35 PM
SOAD, pre-mezmerize/hypnotize. from there on i progressed to faster heavier things

09-06-2006, 11:25 PM
Alexisonfire when I heard waterwings got me started

09-08-2006, 08:41 PM
Hmmm...Well let's see... I went to a fair and saw somebody playing "pretty woman" by VanHalen and was like..i need a guitar...wasn't in to music much then...maybe 2 or 3 cd's of crappy new age bands..bought my guitar for 100$ for some cheap music store...started taking lessons...i was 9 years old at the time...as time went on i learned how to play stairway to heaven...then got involved in led zepp..now i have all there albums...and listen to them constantly..now im really into: The Doors, Grateful dead, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who, And NIRVANA...What's really keeping me inspired right now is Jerry Garcia (R.I.P.)-lead singer/guitarist for grateful dead. Iread his biography and was blown away...I also like Jim morrison...His lyrics just mean something to me...(i dunno..?) ...and Kurt Cobain...I'm currently in the middle of reading his biography..(406 pages long) =\ .... His story seems just like how i am now..so he's really keeping me going...PeaceOut ...R.I.P Jim morrison, Jerry Garcia, and Kurt Cobain. True Poets.

Iron Maiden
Ted Nugent
Def Leppard
Damn Yankees
Pearl Jam
Temple of the Dog
Led Zeppelin
Jethro Tull

EDIT: Hmmm....I swore I wrote Metallica...oh yeah thats right, I find Jethro Tull more inspiring than Metallica :)

09-14-2006, 08:22 AM

09-17-2006, 09:46 PM

09-21-2006, 07:38 AM
Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Sat down all on my lonesome listening to Californication in 2004 after being dumped. The words spoke to me then and still do.

Got more into the Chili's and inspired me to swap from guitar to bass in late 2005.

09-21-2006, 09:47 AM
seeing flea playing bass inspired me to start playing

he blows me away with his live bass solos

09-21-2006, 06:51 PM
Does anyone else here notice that RHCP are the number one answer up here?

I think that says something for the impact they've left on rock music, as well as modern music today. (and I don't mean that in a bad way...)

larry jones
09-24-2006, 12:50 AM
AC/DC, they saluted me...

No, but I gotta say Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and Pat Travers

Those guys freakin rock

I've only been a fan of rock for about 2 years, but i probably have learned about 500 new artists i have never heard of since then

The first song that got me there was Stairway to Heaven

Colin Hay, Dispatch, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Boston, The Animals, Journey, Live.

But way back in the day I used to want to play something like 28 Days, the Living End, Grinspoon, Silverchair etc. They were my idols.
Wow, my rebelish young days :'D

From the top list, though, songs like Overkill by Colin Hay, The General by Dispatch, Fortunate Son by CCR, Of course, More than a Feeling by Boston, great ****ing song, The Animals: House of the Rising Sun, much? Haha. Don't Stop Beleivin' and Wheel in the Sky by Journey.

But, to top it all off, THE song that got me into guitar, however simple that song is, would HAVE to be Live's "Lightning Crashes".

That song.. Amazed me as a kid.

09-28-2006, 04:19 AM
Green Day, when I first got into American Idiot.

09-28-2006, 12:07 PM
Goldfinger with the 99 Red Balloons cover ... i started playing guitar soon after earing that song

09-28-2006, 12:11 PM
5150 by van halen

also crazy train by ozzy

09-28-2006, 02:26 PM
Well, I remember as a kid I would occasionally pick up some of my parent's new cd's. At the time I listened occasionally to pop etc. (whatever was on the radio really).

And one day my dad bought an Ozzy Osbourne live album. I knew he had a song called Crazy Train, so I skipped to that on my little personnal CD player.

And when that chorus riff hit, it blew my head ****ing clean off. I had never heard music like that, with the whole band merging as one to create this massive, powerful sound. I didn't know Ozzy only had Zakk on guitar, and if you had told me there were 500 men playing that rifff at the same I would have believed you.

09-28-2006, 02:30 PM

Ever since I was little, my dad used to play me Rock The Casbah - The Clash, until I finally asked who these guys were. He showed me a picture of Hoe Stummer playing a les Paul, and I spent about 6 yeas knowing nothing about a guitar except it sounded cool and I air guitared alot. Finally my mom bot me one for my birthday, and I started just playing like GReenday and Sum 41, but as I got better, I got more into technically proficient stuff, but I still love the old school punk rock! It cant be beaten!

Vagabond Blue
10-18-2006, 07:50 PM
Originally, it was Van Halen, but what keeps me wanting to play is Led Zeppelin, I guess.

10-22-2006, 08:08 AM
Nirvana and the Offspring

10-22-2006, 03:24 PM
Lostprophets and 3 Doors Down... and a little Linkin Park.

10-22-2006, 07:15 PM
Metallica, Maiden, Children of Bodom.

10-23-2006, 07:17 AM
RHCP and Hendrix without either my life is incomplete

10-23-2006, 02:13 PM
A band that started up around my immediate area (Dead Poetic) inspired me to start playing the guitar about 6 years ago. But sitting in my old living room with my dad when I was like 9, listening to Muddy Waters or B.B. King with him really inspired my entire love for music.

Of course, I've branched far out from those two artists and the entire Blues genre in general, but blues is what started it all for me. :D

10-23-2006, 02:20 PM
Guns N' Roses and Nirvana and maybe a little bit of RHCP and Linkin Park as well.

10-23-2006, 04:42 PM
for me it was simple plan and greenday. they rock.

10-24-2006, 09:03 AM

11-16-2006, 04:42 PM
for me it was The Ramones...they were so simple and good, it was like nothing i ever heard before

11-17-2006, 12:16 AM
System of a Down

System of a down...dont really like them as much anymore but, for a numetal band, they got me into real metal.

same here

11-17-2006, 08:31 AM
I studied the guitar before I really got into playing it, but my practicing then wasn't consistent. When my friends made me listen to My Chemical Romance and taught me how to play it, I guess I really got into it, then, from MCR, I found AC/DC, Queen, Judas Priest, Hendrix, Zepplin and their like...

11-17-2006, 11:03 AM
I started in the punk tradition as a form of release and expression, and I loved the ethics and ideology behind the punk movement, thats what really attracted me to music. Classic and new punk was my inspiration.

Now a Days I play more rock, I've taken lessons and progressed very far as a musician. Many different things inspire me, although the two bands that kind of gave me an epiphony were: Motion City Soundtrack (as far as lyrical writing) and My Chemical Romance. Now before I get flamed, if you havn't seen an MCR show then you don't know what you're missing, these guys put on a great show, and Ray Toro really knows how to play guitar. If you don't believe me listen to the song "Thank you for the Venom." One of the things that keeps me playing, is that I wanna get to that level.

Rything Shred
11-17-2006, 12:35 PM
The band that convinced me to play guitar was unfurnatley System of a Down but now a ton of metalcore bands inspire meto keep goin plus the old stuff like Maiden and Mega death

11-18-2006, 04:27 AM

11-21-2006, 12:07 AM
