A mix between my cousin and my sister's boyfriend. Then my musical taste grew as I took up guitar.

In 1925, a girl was killed by a serial killer. While the killer fed on her flesh she chanted, "Yo holmes to bel-air!" The girl then obtained glowing red eyes. Now, if you have read the chant, she will appear next to your bed at midnight, staring at you with her glowing red eyes until you fall asleep, unless you post this in 5 different threads. Your kindness will be rewarded.

Definately Van Halen and AC/DC. My dad was always listening to them. I remember hearing Eruption and thinking "I've gotta do that one day." And of course after hearing Back in Black, you just want to rock.

...I can't believe my eyes.. I've never seen so many dummies influenced by so many freakin' BS mainstream c**k metal bands.. Half of them, I swear to god hold their guitars upside down.. WHY SO MUCH METALLICA!? Metallica just led to me liking Megadeth, because of Dave Mustaine.. And Mustaine was my biggest, and still is, my greatest guitar influence, because I've never heard anyone write as many speed metal riffs that are so unique and indifferent from other bands. And he's a great lyricist. Megadeth all the way.

By the way, for those of you that've never heard Hangar 18 by Megadeth, go listen and piss yourself.

Yeah, Metallica is overated and I've always been influenced by Megadeth's catchier riffs and Mustaine's amazing guitar work. I never liked AC/DC much because of their iconic influence and how someone always wants to learn their songs first. They always learn the song, but they never learn the solo. Then, they decide to rid themselves of all the individuality they just had by purchasing a Gibson SG.

3. Iron Maiden
4. Motley Crue (see Guns N Roses)
5. Metallica

My current major influeces are:

1. Megadeth
2. Iron Maiden
3. Judas Priest
4. Pantera

I'm not totally sure as of right now; My appriciation for rock music started when I was about 10 with Jimi Hendrix, but my current playing is inspired by John Frusciante and Hillel Slovak. So I gotta give it up to Hendrix and RHCP. But Iron Maiden and Oingo Boingo are really helping me out musically.

My aunts and uncles came over one time, and my cousin played guitar and i didnt kno, anyways, I had a guitar and drumset in my room, and i told him and we went and jammed like the whole night..He rocked on guitar and i played drums. After that I started to try guitar...but it really didnt work out for me...Then I learned how to read tabs, and my whole world changed...I could learn to play anything, i felt.. So I learned stuff like Sweet Child Of Mine...that was probably like the first thing i really got into...Im more into different kidns of rock...but i will play a lot of different kinds of music.

Don't kill me for saying this but believe it or not, Green Day. I went to this sick outdoor concert and I was standing at like 4 feet of billy joe. For a minute I stood there, looked at the band and told myself ''Holy ****, this is it. That's what I'm doing with my life'' The next day I got my first guitar.

Linkin park started me into any type of rock when i was 8, then system of a down got me into loving rock, then thats all i liked for about 2 years, i eventually got bored, then i was 100%rap until i turned thirteen i started listening to system of a down again, they inspired me to listen to metal and play guitar, then i saw when serj was making his own label, then saw buckethead, then i though hmmmm, that sounds interesting, listened to botnus and funbus, and that, truly got me hooked on screaming metal, then i started to listen to metallica, my dad told me to learn some of their songs, then people started to say trivium was the new metallica, so i thought i should try out trivium, fell deeply in love with trivium, then people started to compare trivium to bullet for my valentine, people said bullet were the simple version of trivium, i dont see how but, i fell in love with bullet for my valentine, then my friend was like, "why are you listening to bullet?, u should listen to slipknot"
so i guessed i should give them a try, i liked them alot, then after a couple days my friends like, "dude slipknot sucks, listen to murderdolls" then i tried them out, i lied them, i never did like korn though, in fact they suck big hairy crab infested tranvestite battery acid coverd balls, i so i should say system of a down is my biggest inspiration, i went from totally rap, in january, to **** rap listen to metal, they kick ass, in november, but then in december i started listening to the good old stuff, such as led zeppelin, black sabbath, etc.
my favorite bands in order are:
1 trivium
2 bullet for my valentine
3 Buckethead, or anything that hes in
4 system of a down
5 led zeppelin
6 pink floyd
7 black sabbath
8 metallica
9 Jimi hendrix experience
10 deep purple
and so on
god damn, that was a fu**ing long post

Well, I had only heard a Christian band called DC Talk when I was growing up, the closest thing I had to rock. I picked up a guitar mostly cause I thought my mom looked cool, even though she was doing extremely basic acoustic chord-strumming. But, this changed, since I tried to learn from her, but she was inattentive, and I eventually gave up knowing only the basic chords. After that, I started delving into modern rock music, from Nirvana to the Chili Peppers, from the Foo Fighters to the Strokes, I tried to listen to everything I could. It was soon after this that I started learning guitar again, mostly because a stroke of inspiration from my "totally kvlt" cousin (What a douchebag he was). Nonetheless, I strode on, teaching myself to read tablature, and playing as many songs as I could possibly absorb. When my sister married Jeremy, he introduced me to the classics. I'm now chock full of influences, from Tool to Hendrix, Floyd to Rush. I like to think my musical tastes have broadened quite a bit.

So yea, I guess a lot of things contributed to my rock abilities...

I would have to say AC/DC hands down. I have alot of metal influence and stuff, but I say that AC/DC is the only reason I ever looked at a guitar. The way Angus plays and the way they sound just drew me in and I was hooked on classic and early 90's rock/metal.

When I was 7th grade I listened to rap music everyday until a friend let me listen to Freebird as a joke. God bless that friend because since that day I started learning guitar and worshipping good, old, rock and roll music. So I would have to say Lynyrd Skynyrd were the first band that inspired me to play guitar. And to keep myself motivated I purposely never learned how to play Freebird and it will be the last thing i ever learn on guitar.

Pink Floyd, Warren Zevon, and Nirvana got me listening to music and playing.

The Doors, particularly Jim Morrison in his drunken insanity, provided something that I could identify with and really got me interested in writing and performing music.

It's kind of Ironic, because today, I'm not much of an EVH fan, but I kinda figured out he was the one who inspired me to play. When I was really little, I really liked the Beat It song that Eddie played on, by Michael Jackson, (yes laugh all you want)and after 6 or 7 years of air guitar, I finally got an electric guitar. But when I started guitar, it was proably Sum41. (don't worry, that was years ago)

Hello everyone Im MAJORand basically All people have influences and sme dont, basically mine are the GUNNERS, Velvet revolver, pink floyd, and u2, all these band contrabute to the music i create, i mean it depnds on what music you listen to really, if your a rapper is probably Eminem and and a rocker its led zep, metal heads it's matallica and so on. it really depends on your attitudes at the end of the day, well done to anyone who is influenced in music.

[B]there are many many bands actually. i swear when i was younger enter sandman and sweet child of mine were my lullabys. metallica, nirvana, guns'n'roses, slayer. all of them. they were the ultimate start of them all. motley crue, kiss, megadeth. all the older heavy metal shit. its amazing. so thats what actually started me on my journey to rock and the drums.

xBLITZKRIEGx
02-16-2007, 07:03 PM
nirvana initially - mostly because i grew up with it. pixies, mclusky, strokes, jesus lizard, albini's bands, and the beatles inspired me later once i found em.

oh and for everyone saying good charlotte and other pop punk bands suck, i think you should respect that it just so happened to be that particular person's gateway band of sorts. they aren't my favorite bands either but if it gets you passionate about music then the overall result is good regardless of which band it is. moreover, if i were 5-6 yrs younger, id probably be saying blink 182 and all that other stuff that was popular when i was a teenager, so its all relative.

I forget who over the course of time who inspired me to rock, but lately it's been a lot of Led Zeppelin and Rush. I like the blues/rock and roll approach to music, and the tone of effects as well. Alex Lifeson colored his tone with tons of effects an aweful lot, and it's inspiring me constantly. I'm actually half tempted to buy a volume pedal right now because of him. Jimmy Page has just played a huge role on how I play too. Both keep me on my toes, and every time I listen to them, they continue to amaze in some new way.

Chevelle. Their first album, "Point #1" definitely inspired me. Mostly because it was my first CD ever. It aged me from all the other genres of music (rap, country, techno, pop) and blew them WAY out of the water.

Alice in Chains was the first to inspire me to play guitar. Then The Mars Volta, Blind Melon, Pearl Jam, Frank Zappa, Yes, The Meat Puppets, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, a lot of horn players really inspire my playing now, like Fela Kuti and Miles Davis. Oh, and John McLaughlin is a huge influence on me right now.

Well, when I was just starting to consciously notice that music was playing, my parents listened to a lot of Motown, the Beatles and basically all the older stuff from the 60s and 70s. My dad listened to Hendrix and Zeppelin. All of that stuff got me into listening to music. When I got into my late elementary school years, no one famous really got me into actually playing. A guy that was in a middle school jazz band came to my school and when I saw him play, I wanted to. It wasn't until later I got into guitar. I started off playing Green Day, Nirvana and a bunch of other easier stuff to get me going. Now I get my drumming style from RHCP, Zeppelin and some other more technical stuff from Tony Royster Jr., Steve Gadd, etc.; my guitar style comes from RHCP and Hendrix.

Id have to say Led Zeppelin, they're not the first rock band I ever listened to, but when you're a kid and you hear Jimmy Page, you can't help but get the broom and dance around the living room.

Johnny Cash is who really pushed me into guitar though, I'm better at playing country and folk than I am with rock, but hey, I'm gettin' there!

I'd have to say Metallica, even though I'm not into that stuff anymore, but I do owe it to them.

kirk hammett made me chum my undies when i was 11 or 12. I didnt just want to learn to play, I knew before I owned a guitar I wanted to be able to play like that. I believe it was creeping death and disposable heroes that ignited it.

I played the classic guitar.

My favourite bands were Nirvana and Green Day and I want to play like them. So I bought an E-Guitar.
I think those two bands inspired me to rock!

Which band inspired you to rock scociety and work your little fingers to the bone?!
The first band that really got me into rock was Van Halen. First song I heard was "Unchained" and it blew me away. I was then obssesed with VH for like 2 years. Now I listen to diff. things like classic rock, shred, and progressive mainly.
