The first band that really got me into rock was Van Halen. First song I heard was "Unchained" and it blew me away. I was then obssesed with VH for like 2 years. Now I listen to diff. things like classic rock, shred, and progressive mainly.

First my parents showed me Fuel and the Red Hot Chili Peppers's Can't Stop on a burned CD, then in around 2005, I bought Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time Cassette, and I have been a metal head ever since. Now my idols switch constantly with my many moods.

It's strange, a lot of people love Avenged Sevenfold, but I can't get into many songs except M.I.A. and Beast and the Harlot, I have been getting into punk, grunge, and thrash metal, but are there any better A7X cds than City of Evil that sound more like the ramones and Nirvana?

I was on youtube and typed in a random word (jaco) and didn't think i'd find anything.
they had a bassist named jaco pastorius. I saw 'slang'. i saw it again. I decided, then and there, bass playing is the awesomest thing ever. then I realized Cream and the Police have some good bass lines. my friend had a RHCP cd, i heard it, i said "gimme the <censored> bass guitar you <censored>". now I play like none of the above, but i'm learning. slowly.

Metallica for me. Growing up in a prety ghetto neighborhood, all I ever was explosed to was rap and other crappy music. Never rock or anything like that (and im still pretty young) -.-

Now one song I always liked was enter sandman (I live in new york, so that sthe song they play for on eof our players from the yankees)... anywho I started searching for more songs and started with metallica. Then I really came to like there music. Ever since then they have become my faovrite band, and really inspired me to pick up a guitar when I felt like "hey.. how cool would it be to play these songs on my own?!?!"... and I must say, its awesome =]. SO I started playing a few months ago and progressing nicely. And since then have not listened to that crappy rap or other music and have been exposed to a lot more musical styles and bands (and also going to see my first concert in 2 weeks when I see the white stripes) :D

The Beatles, not because their guitar playing is anything exceptional, but because they got me so into music that I just wanted to play (and to write especially). So I'd say the honour goes to the Beatles.

Man, that's an easy one.....I'm totally gonna have to say Stevie Ray Vaughan(he got me wanting to play kick @ blues so badly)From there it's Lynyrd Skynyrd, I got into some southern rock stuff. THen to get me Moving on adn going into heavier stuff It's Guns 'N' Roses ( i have posters of both in my room somewhere >_>) When I heard Slash (GOD) play the solo on Civil War I knew from right then that I was born to play major rock. I don't give a crap about what ppl say abotu me being sent from god with teh gift for Saxophone..guitar is way better.

I gotta say Ac/Dc was my first inspiration. All my favorites added in there....The Offspring, Sum 41, etc. As time kept progressing, I kept getting harder, and recently I have bought some songs by Slipknot and the like (good for working out :D ). I still like the stuff I used to like...just now I have a wider range. Ac/Dc started it all off, though. Not many are as good as Angus Young.

Well maybe people arent mentioning them because thats not the first rock they heard that inspired them... it wasn't their choice :-s Speaking of Pink Floyd I have a lovely 36 hour collection of their music on my computer lol I wonder if ill ever listen to it all... But anyway, for me it was Muse. New Born to be precise. That kinda inspired me to listen to more rock and to play the guitar. I didn't start till much later but it was the first single I bought and I vowed to be able to play it some day lol.

No one band really got me into playing music.

Listening to a variety of guitarists like Einziger, Li, and Morello, plus bands like Static-x, Nonpoint, and Slipknot, I realized how the guitar is such a diverse instrument. And with some creativity (and a few hundred different effects pedals) you can make really any sound you want.

I guess I just wanted to learn how to do that.

FALL OUT BOY!! LMAO JK

Nirvana, when i saw kurt going wild with his guitar and smashing it i was like holy **** that looks fun. and ACDC DAmn angus young was truly the first to inspire me to play guitar or rock w/e you wanna call it

That's exactly what happened with me (at least how it started). I found Nirvana and thought, "Hey, this is freakin' cool!". Around that time one of my friends happened to have an old acoustic guitar he'd let me play when I was at his house, so I began playing and became addicted, bought a guitar a few weeks later, and learned some Nirvana songs. I really don't think I could've started with a better band guitar-wise. Nice and easy songs for beginners.

After that, I found AC/DC and they ruled my life for a year. Things just kept rolling from there. From AC/DC I got into more classic rock bands like Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, which further enhanced my guitar skills. From listening to Cream, I began to love blues-rock, and got heavily into that.

Then I hear about this Stevie Ray Vaughan guy that's supposed to be THE bluesman of all-time. I check him out, and I dig it. To date he's the guitar player that's influenced me the most. My friends complain when we have practices because I've been playing SRV for so long and I'm so accustomed to his style, that I sound like him when I play. I don't necessarily play like him, but I mean heavy vibrato, the way I hit the notes, etc.

And then I got back into the grunge thing. I listened to lots of Soundgarden (really, anything Cornell related I love), which then got me to buy Audioslave's first (and only good) CD, then I got into Rage Against the Machine, and now Rage has ruled my life for the past year.

And here I am:D

ACDC make me buy a guitar. When i first played it i learnt smoke on the water and thought is there anything else to learn because that was not challenging enough. I played for a bit the dropped off for a bit and then i got Appetite for Destruction. That made me want to buy an electric guitar and i havent put my guitar down since. Slash and Angus kick ass. Oh and rap sucks ass.

+1, as well as Metallica. My parents listened to a lot of classic rock as well, which made me want to buy a guitar.

Really it wasn't a band that made me pick up a guitar, its just after getting 5 stars on Free bird on guitar hero, I realised I was wasting my time and should take it to the next level, namely by picking up a real guitar.

As they say,the rest is history.

Linkin Park. Laught at me if you want, but they were my first real band I was a fan of, my all time favorite band, and the first band I saw live. They've inspired me a lot I consider Mike Shinoda a musical genius and the band itself pure amazing.

Ravi Shankar (believe it or not), Mark Knopfler, and Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd.

Knopfler for the way I actually play the guitar (fingers over a pick), Barrett and the rest of Floyd for musical style, and Ravi for both musical style and inspiration to seek out the more unusual methods of music.

I remember when I heard Green Day for the first time when I was a little kid...I knew I wanted to get into music after hearing that. I played drums for a year, and then i remember on a New Year's Eve, I was watching all the bands perform at the countdown till the next year, and I thought it'd be fun to give Bass a try....best decision I ever made. I now avidly play drums and bass. My major inspiration was definitely Green Day, however Bad Religion, Pennywise, and Rise Against also played their roles ;)

DISTURBED!!!!!!!!!! My dad bought me a guitar 3 years ago. It was an electric Fender Strat Squier. I still have it and is my only guitar to this day because I only became interested in it when my friend had a guitar and I decided to try it. I started listening to more rock bands that my dad had CDs of. He had stuff like Disturbed, Van Halen, Creed, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Motley Crue, and Linkin Park. Linkin Park was my favorite band 2 years ago. I was obsessed with them after my friend showed me them when I was like 10. Then when I bought my stereo my dad showed me Disturbed and I immediately loved them, THEY ****IN ROCKED!!!!! So there, that's my whole story on how I became a rock addict. I'm 13 now and have been playing for 11 months.

The first record i ever bought was "Paradise City" by G'N'R. I was about 5 years old i think, but even then i was blown away by that riff. As i got older i discovered Nirvana when i was about 12 i guess, and learned a few early riffs. But i only seriously started playing about 10 years after, and the reason for that was the re-discovery of classic rock like AC/DC, Led Zep, Deep Purple, all that stuff. I listened to Angus' playina and was like "I can do that", then realised i couldn't, so i started practicing again!
