Since today's music is almost devoid of any guitar solos worth jumpin' up n down about, I thought it might be nice to pay some kind of tribute to the Classic Rock years when most rock music contained some of the most amazing guitar solos to ever tickle our ears.

So without further raving on by yours truly, what in your opinion are the top ten guitar solos from the Classic Rock years?

My selection:

1. Stairway To Heaven (Jimmy Page)
2. Comfortably Numb (David Gilmour)
3. Freebird (Allen Collins)
4. All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix)
5. Eruption (EVH)

But, Frank Zappa has got plenty of good solos (Muffin Man, Willie the Pimp, Don't Eat the Yellow Snow, etc, too many to list)

Eruption is an over-rated stupid solo thats just played as fast as humanly possible with heavy distortion and effects.

my thoughts exactly. not to mention, it's really annoying too.

11-26-2005, 01:40 AM
"Badge" anyone? I love the shorter, meaningful solo's that emphasize the song and make the listener feel good... I think too many people focus on "how hard it is to play" rather than how it fits in the song and its muscial aspect. Clapton, Harrison, and I guess the Stones solos are often my favorites for that reason. Although as mentioned above, for a longer solo Frampton Comes Alive "Do You Feel Like we Do" is just AWESOME!

11-26-2005, 01:49 AM

I know I look like a fanboy of those guitar players, but those are all really great solos. And it was a difficult list to compile. Nothing I've ever heard comes close to those in my opinion. A couple were just favorites though.

01-28-2007, 03:31 PM
I like "Free Bird" solo a lot.
