joe perry is pretty cool and can play

but tyler cant sing any more I hope your kidding.

Brad is a better guitarist than Joe in my opinion, but Joe is still amazing. One of the greatest bands ever

Ember
11-27-2005, 05:48 PM
brad is very laid back, but he can play for sure. but what i like about joe perry is that he move the audience. (and move me when i see his guitar "billie") he is like a second frontman next to steven tyler. but both are great guitarist...

Uncle Salty
11-27-2005, 07:22 PM
joe's solos can be all over the place though
listen to Brad's solo on Stop Messin' Round off of Honkin on Bobo, then tell me who's better

BrainDamage
11-27-2005, 07:31 PM
^^Joe got much better than he used to be though...some of the live shows in the early days were very sloppy on Joe's part.

Uncle Salty
11-27-2005, 08:11 PM
that is very true i like a lot of Joe's solos off of you gotta move

Dudley000

They would be good to see live.
Do they do anything special in their live concerts.
Eg ACDC with a massive fire breathing statue and exploding cannons

Uncle Salty
11-27-2005, 09:58 PM
Besides dancing around the stage and playing kick-ass rock, umm Steven Tyler jumps on those handle bars and swings around, Joe whacks his guitar with his shirt, Steven Tyler swings the mike around a lot.

Mamakin1973
11-28-2005, 09:49 AM
Yep seein em twice in january "houston/dallas" itll be my 4th and 5th time to see em :). Nnnneways yeah they are awesome current fav songs are nobody's fault, rats in the celler, stop messin around.... scratch that i mean everything off honkin, kings and queens, just everything that rocks from the old days basically ,and on the brad bein better than joe thing brad went to berkley so he has a little more knowledge of the guitar than joe.

Nirvana_RATM2
11-28-2005, 01:45 PM
^ bad ass man im going to houston show , we should meet up lol. Yea aerosmith are awsome , just as good as zep and sabbath maybe even better. Joe perry was a little sloppy but its better now....the riffage those two guys can jam in to are just so rock n roll!

They would be good to see live.
Do they do anything special in their live concerts.
Eg ACDC with a massive fire breathing statue and exploding cannons they do a lot with the crowd. Steven holds the mic in the crowd a lot throughout the show, and when people run on stage and are taken away by security, he calls them back and lets them sing...they have stages that allow them to be close to the crowd- with 2 catwalks this year, 1 last year -and this year they even walk out on the floor in between the catwalks.

Yep seein em twice in january "houston/dallas" itll be my 4th and 5th time to see em . bitch, you have me beat by one :p:

have seen em 3 times and would go again.First time was 1977 with Rick Derringer-they seemed drunk and out of tune and sounded muddy.Second time was 1992 after Get A Grip-was way better.Jackal opened that one.Last year saw them again in calgary with Cheap Trick.Awesome show-it was the night after the flames eliminated the sharks.steve tyler swapped shirts with some chick wearing a flames jersey

Not sure I am going tommarow but some guy said they play walk this way with lenny first? Not sure on that

BrainDamage
12-05-2005, 11:28 PM
This has been the average setlist:

Love In An Elevator
Walk This Way
Same Old Song And Dance
Cryin'
Livin' On The Edge
No More No More
Shakin' My Cage
Sweet Emotion
Seasons Of WIther
I Don?t Want To Miss A Thing
Dream On
Lord Of The Thighs
Baby Please Don't Go
Train Kept A Rollin'

Encores
Back In The Saddle
Draw The Line

early on The Other Side was in a bunch of sets but was removed. Rag Doll and Janies Got A Gun were also in the first few sets. Helter Skelter has also been used as an opener a few times, and even an encore...I actually just found out it was supposed to be the opener for the 23rd show that I was at "Original printed out setlists detailed "Helter" was to be used for the opener but "Elevator" took the honour when the show happened." :grrr: :livid: :mad1:

I would have killed to see Aerosmith play Helter Skelter.

EDIT: Jaded was also dropped from the set, it was only rested twice since then on the 2002 tour. Big Ten Inch Record opened one show, Come Together was played once, as was Walkin the Dog, Angel, and Crazy.

i saw aerosmith in pittsburgh i think the 26th and they played an awsome show. They must have had sound problems or something though because they got a lot of feedback and the crowd didnt like it. Hooooooooly ****.. amazing :D

Train Kept a Rollin was a ****ing showstopper.. as well as 'Cryin. My two favorites of the night.. Helter Skelter being the worst. It was horrible.

Right after they finished Train as the finale, they came back out at the exact minute that John Lennon got shot and had a moment of silence then played Come Together in tribute. It was awesome.

I seriously don't think i've screamed so much in my life. I belted out virtually every single song as loud as I could and I woke up coughing up pieces of something from my throat. I can't talk.

Biggest dissapointment of the night was no Toys in the Attic or Love in an Elevator

Train was fucking awesome all three times I saw them. And they played it its entirety which is unusual for Aerosmith...but ten times better.

I seriously don't think i've screamed so much in my life. I belted out virtually every single song as loud as I could and I woke up coughing up pieces of something from my throat. I can't talk. thats the way it should be :headbang:

Helter Skelter being the worst. It was horrible. really? Damn, I'll have to hear it for myself and see what I think :(

Helter Skleter
Walk This Way

SOS Too Bad
Livin on the Edge
Shakin My Cage
Sweet Emotion
I Dont Wanna Miss A Thing

Walkin the Dog

Train Kept a Rollin

Come Together
Draw The Line

I think thats right.. I might be missing a song or two. you lucky bastard...you got to see Come Togetherrrrr...AND Walkin the Dog! And even SOS! The only song you forgot was Seasons of Wither right after Sweet E.

No!!

Then again, I don't think Lenny liked us that much. He kept taking those pauses for the audience to sing and noone knew the words so theres like 10 seconds of silence and random attempts to make any semblance of a sentance. You could tell he was dissapointed.

I agree. Like, he would play one of his amazingly popular fast paced songs then he would **** it up and play 2-4 slow ones.

However, Believe (one of the slow ones) has become one of my favorite songs. The solo that his guitarist played on that one had my jaw on the floor by the end of it. Im learning the studio version right now.

 thats exactly what i thought. He was wearing these bell bottoms, and looked exactly like Page.

And the show was kickass, however Lenny stayed on for almost the same time as Aerosmith, and they also didnt play my favorite songs (What it Takes, Love in an Elevator)

and Lenny was good for awhile, but got boring quickly. The same thing happened where he told everyone to sing, and no one knew what the words were, so they just hummed. pretty funny.

all in all, good concert.

Dont you guys think aerosmith doesnt get the respect they deserve? If you think about it they have been playing for so damn long that the only possible thing that can happen is them getting better and better. I just dont think alot of people realize how good they are.... mmmmm yeah.

Honkin on Bobo was their best release in a number of years. Great record. You Gotta Move is a good CD/DVD, I think the concert footage should have been a little more like the extras- more of the band and less of the crowd -but overall, I was pleased with the DVD and CD. Rockin the Joint was a little disappointing, considering the setlist they played that night, but Rattlesnake Shake, Seasons of Wither, and No More No More all on one live CD makes it worth it :p:

I would prefer to not have a tour with Motley Crue for two reasons:
1) insane ticket prices
2) shorter setlists. Aerosmith had 16 song setlists when they played with Kiss, and they have 16-17 song setlists with Lenny. The bigger the opening act, the longer they play, the longer the opener plays, the less time Aerosmith plays.

Actually they are supposed to be heading to other countries "cant tell you which ones" but aerosmith is gunna be working very hard in the next few years it looks like. As soon as this latest tour is over they are going to record a new album and sometime after that or maybe in the middle of it they are gunna go back on tour with motley crue "more than likely" so the future is looking good for us aerosmith fans.

^^I'm not sure what all the cancellations are for  . And the only thing with having a bigger opening act such as Kravitz or Cheap Trick is that it shortens Aerosmith's set. It happened in 2003 when they toured with Kiss and it's happening again on this tour, both tours they played 16-17 songs a show, instead of the usual 20-22. Still a great show regardless...it's Aerosmith, what else do you expect? :)

I totally agree with Toys and Rocks being their best albums, at least in terms of what they mean in Aerosmith's development and style, but my favourite 80's/90's album would have to be Nine Lives. Anyone with me?

For whoever said Tyler can't sing, I believe he has around a four octave vocal range (I think...I'm no singer, but I'm pretty sure), so it's a fact that he can sing. Maybe you don't like his voice, which is totally different. But the majority do.

For whoever asked who was the lead guitarist before Tyler joined....read up on Aerosmith. Tyler met Perry, and formed Aerosmith as Tyler, Perry, Hamilton, Kramer, and Tabano. Tabano was quickly replaced with Whitford well before their first album was released, and there you have it.

This summer, they were in the studio working on an album of re-worked songs written around 1989-1994 that never made it onto Pump/GAG (and maybe NL), to be released Spring/Summer 2007, but they put off that work until after this tour with Motley Crue. Instead, probably to end their contract with Sony, they're putting out [yet another] greatest hits, with the inclusion of Sedona Sunrise (a tune written around 1989, with a very laid back/pedal steel guitar feel), and maybe also one of the following: Devil's Got A New Disguise (another song written back then), and/or a cover of Highway Star. This is most likely an album just to end their current contract. Then work will resume on the next album after the tour.

For anyone who didn't know, the last tour (RTJ tour) was cancelled because Tyler had a popped blood vessel in his throat that he needed surgery for. He healed quickly, and apparently sounds great.

BrainDamage
08-08-2006, 05:23 PM
^^well, technically, Tyler was the drummer first. But that's in the very early days.

Anyway...

ANOTHER GREATEST HITS?! This is stupid. I'm kinda mixed on the reworked outtakes thing. I liked both Pump and Get a Grip, but I was kinda looking forward to some brand new Aerosmith studio stuff. Let's just hope this tour is a good one...with Motley Crue opening and the tour being the Route of All Evil tour, Aerosmith shouldn't even think of playing stuff like I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. Their sets better be loud and rockin'. They should break out stuff from Rocks that hasn't been played in a long time/not at all *cough*Combination*cough*

and about Tyler, I knew he had surgery but I didn't know what for. He popped a blood vessel in his throat? Ouuuch.

Yeah, another greatest hits, but I doubt a record company would let you go out on tour without something to promote.

As for people wanting "new" Aerosmith, but maybe getting some old outtakes reworked....

The main bass riff for Sweet Emotion was written a few years before Toys came out (though it was backwards...Tyler turned it around). Tyler refused to work on it until Toys came out. So there's an example of a song written, but not worked on until a few years later.

Hole In My Soul was written during sessions for one album, but not finally reworked until the Nine Lives sessions.

And other songs, like Monkey On My Back, were headed for the world of unreleased outtakes, but they were fought for, and ended up on the album. Some outtakes, as we know them, could've just as easily been album tracks, and vice versa.

So to 95% of the people who will hear these new Aerosmith songs, they really will indeed be new. For those who know that the majority of them (as the plan is now, at least) will have been written years ago, but reworked now, eh, maybe we'll be upset, but it's still something. As long as I can see Aerosmith perform awesome songs live (last tour: S.O.S., Lord Of The Thighs, Kings And Queens, Milkcow Blues, No More No More...awesome), it's fine.

One more thing I wanted to add: dunno how likely it is that it will happen, but Tyler said recently in an interview that he would love to have a string of dates at Madison Square Garden (and other venues?) where one night they play all of Toys and Rocks, in order, another night they play Aerosmith and Pump, etc. Now THAT, I'd give my left nut to see.

And, BrainDamage, to add to what you said regarding the type of sets we should see - I definitely agree that they should play completely rockin' sets. They always should :p: . YET, Motley Crue started in 1981, and really kicked off around 1985-1987 - which is right around the time Aerosmith was reborn as a pop band, with songs like Rag Doll, Dude (LLAL), and stuff like that. So old school fans of Motley Crue became those fans when Aerosmith started spewing out pop songs, and might want to hear those. People were rockin' out to Dr. Feelgood one second and Angel the next. So it's a toss-up.

But don't get frustrated until 4 or 5 dates into the tour. The first show of Aerosmith's last tour, they played a whole crapload of hits; Cryin', Angel, Dude, Jaded, The Other Side, Janie, Rag Doll, IDWMAT, etc. But later on, Helter Skelter, S.O.S., Seasons Of Wither, No More No More, Baby Please Don't Go, full Train, Saddle, DTL, ...pretty much a 70s fan's dream.

futurejp, that was a long post so I'm not gonna quote the whole thing :p:

Sweet E was a last minute addition to Toys, something Tom Hamilton was working on since the Get Your Wings sessions but was a little shy about showing the rest of the group. When they need something to play as the album was coming to a close Hamilton introduced his riff, and with a little reworking, it became Sweet Emotion.

As long as I can see Aerosmith perform awesome songs live (last tour: S.O.S., Lord Of The Thighs, Kings And Queens, Milkcow Blues, No More No More...awesome), it's fine. you were at the show where they did K&Qs and Milkcow Blues?! I have the audio for that show, and hearing those two songs must have been awesome.

A show with a complete Toys and Rocks would just about make my life. There would be songs played at a Toys/Rocks show that have never been played live before (Combination, You See Me Crying, Round and Round, Home Tonight, and I think Uncle Salty hasn't fully been played) and some not since the 70s.

I was at a show where they played Janie, Rag Doll, and the Other Side. I liked Rag Doll and the Other Side a lot. Both are great songs and would be a nice addition to a set (as long as they don't take out anything good :) ). Janie was strange. It just wasn't a song I expected to see live...it was...different. I just hope they keep No More No More, seeing as that was one of the best parts of all three shows I saw last year.

Well OK, 7 plays in 33 years until 2004 :-P.

On my phishhook page, if you click View next to a date, you can see the setlist. And they're all in MP3, too, except for just a handful of shows, because 900 shows x at least 700 MB per show = 630 gigabytes....I don't think I want to spend that much on space when the music is just for my enjoyment :-)

But back to Aerosmith:

One of the songs that we're pretty sure will be added to The Very Best Of Aerosmith is a song that was [once called] Sedona Sunrise, which might have been renamed Heat Of Love, or Sedona Sunrise (Heat Of Love). Remember the MTV show FANatic? The guy who was the Aerosmith FANatic has heard, I assume, the reworked version of the Sedona Sunrise that came from the Pump sessions, and he said this about it:

"The song has been overhauled, and all for the better. It features a very laid back, almost country-esque "What It Takes" feel to it....and is surely an improvement on an already great track. Completely re-cut and redone.

It features a KILLER pedal steel performance from Joe ****in' Perry, and Steven is as gritty sounding as ever."

If you would like to hear what the version from the Pump sessions sounds like, here is the link:

Has anyone heard the rumor that on Aerosmiths early works (Get Your Wings) that some tunes are actually played by studio musicians? Namely "Train kept A Rollin" in which the guitars are said to have been played by Rock & Roll hird guns Steve Hunter & Dick Wagner.

futurejp
08-12-2006, 01:05 AM
Yeah, I don't think it's a rumor, I think it's a fact. We call them 'ghost guitar players' :-P. They certainly didn't need it - there are bootlegs from that exact era where Joe and Brad play those songs live as if they were the ones that recorded the solos - I'd assume they recorded a rough version, then studio musicians played similar solos.

I would say it's for this reason: Aerosmith (the album) didn't do well at all when it was released, and Aerosmith was *this* close to being dumped, but got a chance to prove themselves with their 2nd album (GYW). So I think they got those guys in for that song (for whatever reason - who really knows how it got started) maybe to just be sure that song sounded OK. That's all I can come up with. If ANYONE listens to ANY bootlegs from ANY point in Aerosmith's career, it is completely obvious that these ghost players absolutely did not fill in because Brad and Joe couldn't do the work.

Well that's what the story is. The boys probably COULD play it, but Hunter & Wagner could play it better. I've seen Aerosmith in concert and IMO they still don't play it as good. But that's just me.
Hunter & Wagner also took turns filling in for Ace Frehley of KISS in studio when he was too drunk to record. If he showed up at all.
