Okay, I've been a fan of Nevermore ever since I saw thier vid for "The Final Product" on Uranium. I ended up getting the In Memory CD (with the demos from Politics), and finally, I got Politics xD. I was kinda disappointed about how The Seven Tongues of God and this one other song turned out, but the others were awesome.
But what I wanna know is: How the hell does Jeff Loomis get that solo sound of his? Does he just use a chorus pedal or something? I know in The Final Product it was a wah (perhaps on the neck pickup?), but I know he didn't use that on all of them.

Whooo, Nevermore DVD, must have that one! Hope they get a lot of the newer material on it, old ain't bad, but i just like the last three albums the most
Nevermore is one of the few 'newer' metalbands I love, Loomis is a genious!

It's Jeff Loomis. He is so awesome, he could make Simple Plan a good band, just by saying it. Hence, his guitar tone is unattainable by mere mortals who have a higher pigment(sp?) count of 2.

Chris Broderick.
Steve is starting up again. He prefers $50 for a full hour, but said he will also do $25 for half hours.
And yes, he is still recovering so his schedule is probably more narrow than that of Chris.

Well, he plays through 3 different, expensive ass, heads plus his many cabs. Pretty nuts really. I think that's what gets him his unique tone is 3 different brand heads.

Oh god, can you imagine some n00b doing that?
Steve: "Ok, so lets start on sweeps"
N00b: "Hold on, my paladin is about to hit level 32"

Me: *tries playing and fails due to excitement* "Gaahhhhh forget this, you're Steve Smythe and I'm talking to you!!"

Who else is drooling over the signature Schecter? From the looks of it it's quite an uncommon instrument, at least by todays standards... Ash guitars are generally rare, not to mention ash bodied OFR equipped 7-strings with maple fretboards xD

Huh, I never noticed that before. Well, I still like it, but I would still probably just get a C-7 Hellraiser instead.
But I was just on Wiki, and it mentioned Jeff was doing a solo album. Anybody know of any details behind this?

He practically mentions it in every interview and only says that it's in works and he isn't sure how it will sound. I think that's all Jeff knows about it too...

Still interesting to see how it will sound, though, what with the ash body.. how does ash differ from mahogany, anyway? Isn't it more balanced or something, like basswood?

This Godless Endeavor= best sweeps ever.
I'm thinkin of getting a seven-string for the pupose of learning Nevermore, among others. What's a fairly good, moderately priced seven-string that doesn't suck? I've tried some of the somewhat lower-end 7-string Rg's (Around the $300 mark) and those are fun.

Ahh, I meant to check there. And in a way, I was almost right in my assumption xD.
As for 7-strings: I think there's a 7-string Sabre for $600, and around that price is the Schecter C-7 Blackjack and 007 Elite 7-string. Those are probably your best bet, if you're willing to spend that much. checter also has a $300 7-string in thier Damien series that is probably pretty good.
SynGates7X

The Damien 7 is $400, it's a good guitar though. I was looking at getting it for my first 7-String.

Oh yeah, my prices were off on some of those, lol! The Ibanez was $700 and as the guy above stated, the Damien is $400. Personally I'd go for the signature model, but I don't have the money yet. My first purchase though is gonna be a killer 6-string... I played an LTD Alexi Laiho signature for the first time, and I must admit I loved the feel of it... I might go for a Jackson RR24 or the Alexi signature first.

I bought in memory and politics of ecstacy a couple weeks ago, politics is great heavy/thrashy stuff, in memory is a bit more mellow, but I am starting to enjoy a few of the tracks, the title track is very good, but some of the great riffs on this album don't have dane's best singing, its hard to get used to.

Same here, along with Beyond Within.
And to th guy wanting to try them out, get Dead Heart in a Dead World, and once you get hooked, get This Godless Endeavor and Dreaming Neon black.

Well someone I knew burned me Dead Heart, only I didn't know what it or any of the tracks were called at the time. So what I did was just randomly picked 4 track numbers, and got Narcosynthesis, Inside Four Walls, River Dragon, and Insignifigant. I started listening to it all, and eventually found out what everything was called. Then DL'd TGE.

Yeah, I agree with the other guys who said This Godless Endeavor. "The Final Product" was the first song I heard and I was just... "Whao o.o. Jeff Loomis is my new guitar-god". Then I heard some stuff on Powertab (Born, The River Dragon has Come, and This Godless Endeavor), and finally got In Memory (the special edition with the Politics demos, which I like alot better than the versions that made it to the album, personally). I love the Bauhaus cover, and the intro leads on "Optimist or Pessemist" are too ****ing brutal xD. So then, I got Politics of Ecstacy, and at last... This Godless Endavor (I had to go to the FYE in the mall to find the ONE copy they had). It's one of those CDs that never really left my player for a while, lol!

Not for me, anyway. While they are 1 of 2 metal bands who have ballads that I think are actually good (the other being Black Sabbath), I still prefer mostly the upbeat songs.

^Only 2 bands?? you got to be joking. *sorry if I was attacking you :D
Sentient 6 was one song off TGE that actually surprised upon successive listens. It gives me chills, big time, Warrell's singing & lyrics are absolutely excellent in that song, so emotive and the lyrics paint such a strong picture (I actually feel sorry for the lil'Robot guy :haha).
And on that Metal Ballads are f*cking excellent when done properly (NOT like a modern-rock ballad). Hell even bands that you would not expect to whip out an Acoustic song or a slow-tempo atmospheric song can blow you away (namely Nile).

Oh right, 3 bands, I forgot Woods of Ypres.
Power metal ballads are just mind-numbingly generic, and thrash ballads are even worse. I don't recall ever hearing any death or black metal ballads, and goth/doom/folk I dislike in general. This leaves heavy and prog metal, and the only prog band I really like is Nevermore, and I have yet to hear a proper ballad from Iron Maiden (Journeyman was nothing more than alright), which apart from Sabbath are the only heavy metal band that I can say that I truly like.
Of course there are out-of-the-ordinary cases, but I don't count them.

I would like some help from the 7-string owners over here, since I remember some of you own the same model I have:
I just bought an Ibanez RG7321, and the strings are a bit slack. Was it the same on yours? What did you do to fix it (i.e. what's your gauge)?

^Let them wear in a bit.
When I first got mah 7 it felt the same, but eventually they start to sound better.
Failing that, just restring the bitch. I can't remember whether your model is the fixed-bridge or Edge-Pro, but if it is the latter, go for 9's.

Ah, but 'tis the former :p:.
Anyway, after further inspection, it's only the low B which is loose, which is 0.54. Now, I know my friend uses this gauge on his 6 string dinky since he tunes to drop C.
Logically, I should put at least 0.56 in there, will it be enough? And will it be good enough for detuning to A very frequently?

I know that Jeff uses .70 for his low B, it might be your answer right there.

I'd put on a 58 personally.
But string gauge isnt as much of an issue when youre on a fixed bridge, so mess around and see what you like best.

Uh, someone added a tab of that a few weeks ago. It's a very excellent tab, but GP5. So upon reflection, this could be the reason why you are asking, because you have no GP5 software on your computer. Oh god, I'm spontaneously typing again...... AHHHH!....make it stop......I'm hungry.....

I completely changed my mind about them.
At first I accepted the vocals, but now I enjoy them and I must say, my big ol' meh turned into This Godless Endeavor being my top played album right now.
Sell My Heart for Stones is a fantastic song I think it's my favorite on the album.

Van William's roadies are yet to reply to me on his cymbal info. :(
I really want to know what ride he is using in "Sell my Heart For Stones". It sounds perfect.
Van's kit on DNB was also incredible sounding, especially the toms. The way they sound in "Deconstruction" is just crazy.

I mean, I knew he was doing some crazy shit in the chorus of Born, and I'd noticed some awesome double bass shit, but I only just really listened closely to his drumming.

Pretty foockin' awesome he is, Although I think there are times where he tries a bit too hard, like the ending to Psalm of Lydia, with the china parts, where he hits it 4 times and then stops. First time I heard that part I was like "Woah! that's pretty swee-hey, wtf?!"...

Pretty under-rated band really, I mean, sure they get all this fellatio, but look at places like guitarworld, where they won't fellate anything that hasn't been around for a thousand years, or is the latest fad.

I wouldn't call them under-rated, but they sure do deserve a bit more spotlight.

Yep, it was called Merchants Of Menace, that's how I first came to know about them. The last song that they did was the 3 string sweeping arpeggios before the main sweep picking solo of This Godless Endeavor. Shame that they didn't make it to the end.
