fair enough...
I think they have more than catchy riffs when you look at songs like
If You Found This Its Probably Too Late
Florescent Adolescent
Despair In The Departure Lounge
and more, I don't find them generic.

I don't know how clear I was, but what I meant was that they've become generic, more or less. A lot of people are just trying to copy them. Like I said, I don't know if it was that way before AM hit the mainstream or not, but there are a lot of bands in the UK scene right now that are copying them.

I liked their first album. It was more direct, not as incoherent as FWN and way better songwriting IMO. With FWN they kinda made the same mistake that Strokes made with FIOE. They were doing too many sounds in one record. I mean, just compare Brianstorm and Florescent Adolescent. These two tracks do not belong on the same album. And they totally lost their garage and chatchyness that was so special about WPSIATWIM (combined with Alex Turner's lyrics). They were trying to do something artsy and totally new, and they failed miserably. Unfortunately!

I still love their debut, though.

Makes sense. I love albums that differ though. Quite personally I like FWN more than WPSIATWIAN but I do like them both. I still don't think they are generic, the album has sound on it that I have never heard in the mainstream. The lyrics were a bit better in their first album, but I like the new bassist and overall sound of the majority of their new songs.

Meh while their first album had some good songs, they kind of fell off once the hype died down and no one really cares about them anymore.

That isn't really the whole truth, is it?

Haha, yes we seem to forget Isaac Brock because he plays alongside of Johnny Marr =S
I think this is how he became as good as he is.

Issac Brock is amazing. His early guitar playing was incredible. When i saw modest mouse i loved it when he screamed into his pickups during the middle of doin' the cockroach. truly inventive playing there.

Has anyone messed around with the J Mascis Jazzmaster signature? I'm really looking forward to playing one.

No, not really. It's awful purely esthetically. Looks like one of those 70s' disco guitars or something.

But its his guitar!

Although he does have a bad taste in everything. His purple glitter guitar, his long silver gandalf hair, and his overweightness.

But we all still love him

I will admit I'm not that fond of the guitar's color, but its not too bad price-wise, so I think I shall be checking it out.

Dunno if ive done this before but anyway
Noel Gallagher (yes, he sticks to pentatonics a lot of the time, but youtube some of oasis vids from the be here now tour, esp. champagne supernova- he ventures all over his guitar)- live forever is ne of the most beautiful solos ever written, despite its simplicity as well. Sorry bout all that defence, just I saw there was a debate about this earlier heh
Matt Bellamy
Billy Corgan
Johnny Greenwood

Marr/ Squire?
